“Wonderful get away”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We have been traveling to Cabo San Lucas for seven years and always stay at Sunset Beach. Each year the resort gets better and better - and the golf course is finally scheduled to be completed this year (only negative is how long it has taken to be finished).

The resort offers everything for the family and if you don't want to leave at all you can still enjoy everything Cabo has to offer - sun, pools, beach, great food, and wonderful service.

This year we had the best service from Manuel Peregrina at the Bistro restaurant! He said that he is fairly new to the resort and it took him a long time to get the job - and that he loved it! He was very personable with my six year old son and remembered us each time we can back to visit his section... down to what drinks we liked! A wonderful addition to the staff that always gives stellar service.

A must visit!

PB Sunset Beach is absolutely breathtaking, gorgeously landscaped and a great place to get away from it all. It’s a timeshare resort, so you have to be aware of that if you are a first time guest. They will stalk you from the time you check in (actually it starts at the airport) and during most of your stay. We agreed to attend a presentation, and were still approached by staff asking if we signed up. I’ll try to keep this review brief, so I’ll sum up my pros and cons here:

Beautiful resort. The resort is located on the side of a mountain and is one of the biggest resorts in Cabo and they are still building. You can see condos, and homes on the side of the cliff.
Rooms. We were in the jr. suite overlooking one of the pools in building 41. The ocean view was amazing. The room was large with a kitchenette with all the amenities (microwave, fridge, stove, dishes, etc.). I was shocked at how quiet the rooms were. You will not hear your neighbors at all. Our neighbor on one side had small children and we there was no noise through the walls.
Pools. I think there are 6 pools (kiddie pool, and adults only pool), sky pool which was very nice, some buildings have their own pool (like ours). All pools have food and bar service (swim up bars at some pools).
Staff. Friendly and accommodating. They were always asking if we needed assistance with anything and there was always an "hola" every day.
Food. We were surprised how tasty the food was and how large the potions were. We purchased the all inclusive package so we didn’t have high expectations.

Golf carts. Oh boy, where do I begin with this? It’s the only way to get around unless you’re close to the main pool or lobby. Wait times can be anywhere from 5-20 minutes, depending on how busy they are. There were 2,000 guests and only 3 carts one night. People waited upwards to 35 minutes to get to their rooms.
Dining. Due to the introduction of their all inclusive meal plan, you need the reservations at the majority of the restaurants, so you must plan ahead. We didn’t because we didn’t know. I wanted to dine at the Japanese restaurant and it took me 2 days to get a reservation that wasn’t at 10pm. Not good. We ended up using room service one night, had lunch at Le Nao and the rest of our vacation we ate at The Bistro (no reservations needed).
Seclusion. If you are looking at getting a little sightseeing or adventuring in, you will need to take a shuttle. For that you will need to go the Sunrise Coffee Shop (at the top of the resort), purchase your ticket (seating limited, so get there as early as you can). Getting anywhere takes some time. If you’re the type of person (like me) who doesn’t like taking most of the day getting anywhere, I would suggest staying at one of the sister resorts (Sunset Rose) to be where the action is. We took a shuttle to Rose and loved it! You can swim in the ocean (unlike Sunset) and walk to town to get some shopping in. Looked like a younger group of guests also.
Swimming. If you want to swim in the ocean, you can’t due to to the undertow. Go to Rose where you can swim in the ocean and lay on the beach.

All in all, we loved our vacation and will return next year, but may stay at PB Rose to be closer to the action. Remember to plan ahead for dining and activities and use the concierge services. They were very accommodating.

Room Tip: Try to stay at one of the buildings near the main pool and restaurants. All rooms have dramatic vie...

Not sure what's going on but there appears to be a shortage of staff. This is my 2nd trip in 6 months and it is evident that they have scaled back staff. Fewer carts available for pick up. It was challenging waiting in the mid-day July heat for more than 15 mins with a toddler and a special needs child. Carts only hold 8 people and there were more than 20 guests kept waiting. Many of them frustrated.

Jr Executive room was as expected accept it is beginning to show wear. Curtain was torn, lamp shade was broken but other than that the room was nice. I hope to see improvements on my next visit in 2015.

Room Tip: All Inclusive is the best way to enjoy this hotel otherwise it can be very expensive. Attend 90 min...

First of all, we own here so have been many times over the years.
Make your own mind up about ownership but just renting might be our recommendation.
The hotel and grounds are very nice.
The pools are top rated, the service is generally good.
For a one week get away vacation this can be a wonderful place.
There is a free shuttle bus to the other PB properties. You should use that opportunity.
This hotel pushes all inclusive now.
You should know that you can not go into the surf at this beachfront hotel. It is too far to walk anywhere from this hotel and the hotel is built on the side of a cliff so walking around the hotel is a bit of a chore. The hotel provides a jitney service around the hotel grounds.
There is a kids daycare camp in the center of the hotel grounds with their own pool. If you want a little quiet stay away from that area. The hotel have wifi at the pools and a few other spots but it is generally unreliable. Wi Fi in the rooms is underway but will cost you extra.
Cell phone service on the west coast and at this hotel is poor to zero. Food and shopping at the hotel are expensive.
Recommendations- for a one week trip, just go and enjoy.
Do the Sky pool at the very top of the mountain.
Stay in the units at the very lowest level at the beach, get a ground floor room. These units are the most quiet and have a great view of the ocean. They are a short walk to the lower pool complex and have shuttles to the other areas.
Like is said use the shuttle bus to PB Rose and Blanco, it is worth the trip. If you an to go anywhere else you can take a cab or rent a car. The tourist cabs in cabo are expensive so be prepared for some cost. There are lots of great places to eat over the hill in downtown Cabo so try that area.

My husband and I returned from spending a wonderfully refreshing and relaxing 2 week vacation in this lovely, and dramatically built resort. We are owners and usually extend our one week to 2 weeks. This resort has not disappointed us and usually exceeds all our expectations. The other guests we've met are from many different places and are very friendly and interesting. The grounds and rooms continue to be very well maintained. The staff is extremely warm, courteous and helpful. Several staff members deserve special recognition because of their efficiency, professionalism and skill. Alejandro, the director and instructor of physical activities at the gym is an extraordinary teacher and motivator. Taking his classes every day made a very discernible difference in how I felt and how I looked. He also instructed me as to how I could maintain my progress at home in my own gym.
Another wonderful staff member is Sahara, the director of activities. Her joy, warmth and energy that she exudes as well as the wonderful tour of the property's Cactus garden and the very enjoyable cooking classes with chefs like Giovani, Alma, and Carlos Ornelas, done in the La Nao restaurant allowed me to learn things I can replicate at home.
The staff at the concierge desk was also quite helpful with securing reservations.

My family, including two small children, visited Pueblo Bonito at Sunset Beach from July 9-16 and we had a wonderful experience. The grounds and accommodations were spectacular and we had very good service, especially Pablo at the Sunset pool and Alvolar at La Noa. The guys who drive the golf carts were always friendly and helpful. With six pools to choose from, you can visit a different one every day. The food was flavorful and plentiful with the all-inclusive option. We will definitely be going back!

If you don't want to stay downtown in the chaos, but close by...the Pueblo Bonito Sunset was great. Beautiful beach and property. You can't swim at this beach, but that was okay with us. Pools were great and villas were large, spacious, clean and all had great views. We were first put on a ground floor room but asked to move to a higher level so we had a better view. We did the all inclusive since there were 18 in our group and we had lots of young adults 18-25. The kids drank their share and the cocktails were wonderful. The food was also really good!. We ate at Freidas which coast $25 extra per person on the All Inclusive, but did not feel it was any better than the other restaurants. Your just paying for the atmosphere. There is a new sushi restaurant and chinese restaurant, but we did not get to eat in them. Make sure to make dinner reservations before you go. They book up fast in the busy months.

They have shuttle rides to their sister properties in town which are fine to take, or a cab ride is less than 10 minutes.

The one thing I got tired of was waiting on the golf carts to pick you up to take you to the lobby, or anywhere up the hill. At dinner time, you can wait up to 20 minutes. I would stay on the level near the main pool on the beach next time. Other than waiting on that all was great!

Room Tip: Choose a room on 2nd or 3rd floor, not ground floor as view isnt as good unless you are on the beach...
