“What a Great Experience!”

We just got back from the Playa. Had a fabulous time! Great service, delicious food, lots of activities. Love Ricardo, he has great humor, Rose, Humberto, Luis and the guys in the main bar were great!

Room Tip: The Ridge is good if you want a more subdued crowd. The pool area is great if you like lots of activ...

The staff was amazing, we had absolutely nothing but good things to say about them. They took very good care of our bags and belongings. I have a bad habit of leaving stuff out of the safe- nothing happened to it. The room was cleaned to perfection daily, around our schedule, and with plenty of spare towels. Everyone spoke near perfect English and were all very helpful and energetic. The front desk at the hotel took very good care to explain the rooms, packages, and nearby attractions as well as plausible transportation. The bartender at the ridge made the best Tequila Sunrise I have ever had, period, and knew every drink I requested. We enjoyed excellent service and food at every restaurant. Ask for the "Mexican Coffee," if for nothing else. In short, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and went the extra mile every time.

The Room was phenomenal- we had a view of both bodies of water plus the harbour. I certainly recommend "The Ridge" as the area for your stay. Room was very spacious and well kept (see cleaning above). The TV was equipped with a slew of English channels. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was very spacious with a large shower and a large bath- both of which were very relaxing with very hot water. We also had plenty of storage area. The all inclusive package contains the hotel-wide WiFi, which is a tad slow but sufficient for email, news and a bit of Facebook without frustration. The beaches were amazing. The one at the foot of the hotel has currents too strong to swim in, though there is one nearby with transportation provided. Both of which were a lot of fun. The hotel is also very near the party scene and the night life there was great.

In short, we have a new favourite vacation spot to which we will most certainly be returning.

Room Tip: Get a Room on "The Ridge!"

Our stay was very pleasant but not over the top fantastic. We had stayed here before several years ago and found the place a bit run down this time. Efforts are made to keep up the place, however the spa was not in tip top shape as one would hope. The bathroom was dirty ( the toilet was not clean at all), there were empty drinking cups lying around, the outdoor Pacific Ocean jacuzzi was not really warm, and no one really showed us our way. We actually wandered around to try and find the steam room. The steam room did not have steam at first, but then after about 3 minutes it went on automatically, which seemed strange. Our services were ok but not great. We ordered a pedicure with message but it seemed like they forgot the message part. When we asked about it ,they said they did not have time because the next client was coming. Finally the attendant reluctantly did a short message. My husband paid the bill downstairs and when we girls left the upstairs area we were treated like criminals. They were insistent that we pay the bill. I explained that it had already been paid. There was no communication to verify that we paid. It should have showed in the computer but I don't think he checked before he spoke. Things worked out, but I definitely did not feel relaxed. There were many attendants running around but it did not appear that many were actually working to help the customers. The place overall had ok food and drink, but nothing really great. We found great restaurants outside of town and the prices were much better. The trip in general was good but we all agree that next time we will go elsewhere. It was fine but not great. The internet is NOT free and very slow. Difficult to connect. My husband had difficulty contacting his office and reading e-mail because of the slow connection. In general it was ok but certainly not outstanding.

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite. Refrigerators are small and flimsy. No oven just a small microwave that has...

Our friend owns a deluxe junior suite here covering the week of July 4th. She lent it to us since she wasn't able to make it this year. After reading some of the reviews, we were worried about getting bombarded with offers to sit through the timeshare presentations. As it turns out, they asked us once at check-in (we politely declined) and then left a note midweek offering it again. That was it, nothing pushy at all.

The room was spacious and well appointed. It had a comfortable king bed and a queen sized sofa bed. The sofa bed doesn't have springs so it's fairly comfortable and doesn't squeak. TV is hooked up to cable with a few premium movie channels, but as you can imagine, we didn't watch much. The kitchenette was the perfect size and had everything necessary to prepare light meals/snacks. There was a 2-burner electric range top, fridge, toaster, microwave, coffee maker and blender in addition to plates, silverware, etc. The bathroom was large with a nice sized soaking tub (no jets). The hotel tap water is filtered and safe to drink. We bought drinking water but used the tap water for making coffee and preparing food. When we were in our room, we spent a lot of time on the balcony. It's quite large, but only had two chairs (there were 3 of us). It overlooked the pool and had a great view of the ocean (most of them do). It has a screen so we often left it open with the ceiling fan going. We usually only had the air going at night when we slept.
The one disappointing thing was that we had to pay $47 for one week of spotty, laggy internet. We couldn't Skype or Facetime our relatives. No streaming movies on Netflix. Even updating on FB was a challenge. And only two devices can be on at a time. Not worth it at all.

The grounds are well kept and the pools are nice. They aren't deep, maybe 4.5 ft at the deepest part. Great for wading and kids. If you're not out there by 10 or 10:30, it may be hard finding a chair. The entertainment staff was great. They have all kinds of free activities; tequila volleyball and water aerobics seemed to be the most popular.

The food at the hotel was overpriced compared to what you can get in town, but probably comparable to what you'd pay in the US. We didn't by the meal plan. Without the meal plan, the hotel breakfast buffet costs almost $20. Instead we made a trip to the Walmart and bought breakfast supplies and snacks for the whole week. We only ate lunch (by the pool) at the hotel. The food was okay. Hit or miss. Grilled fish tacos good; chicken fajitas disappointing. For dinner we ventured out into the town. Had some really awesome Mexican food for half the price compared to the hotel.

All in all a nice, relaxing vacation. We would definitely come back if we get the chance.

Came back from Cabo San Lucas with big smiles on our faces! Playa Grande Resort was perfect! We had a "master suite" which included a large bedroom, two fully tiled gorgeous bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen (no oven, but very nice for two people wanting to make breakfast in the room, and pack a lunch for the day's adventures). The lobby bar has great staff (thank you Carlos and Hector!) and the food is cooked to order on the adjoining patio with the best tacos for an afternoon snack or a meal! Our room was right in the thick of the resort and we didn't hear ANY outside noise. Pool bar was in the shade, adult pool was serene, and the resort didn't overdo the "poolside activities" like some do. The parking was free (just tipping the valet, and you could self park, but why?) We had dinner at both restaurants and the food was excellent! Very romantic to have a lovely, leisurely dinner with a good glass of wine and marvelous service on the outdoor patio listening to the waves and watching the sky turn orange and lavender from the sunset! Wow!

This resort is within walking distance to Los Arcos. Though you can't swim outside the resort (undertow on the Pacific Ocean side is much too dangerous), getting to the gulf side is very easy either by walking to town then taking a water taxi (about $6 per person). From Playa Grande you can even hike over the rocks at Los Arcos to some nice beaches (a little risky, but doable if you are a hiker and have a tread on your sneakers). Definitely would recommend Playa Grande Resort!

The only warning about Cabo has been said on this site before and it is definitely true . . . do not stop in the airport for anything or anyone until you get OUTSIDE to the curb or you will be swamped by the guys pretending to be your rental car agent but in actuality is a timeshare salesman. If you made reservations for a rental car before you left the states (highly recommended), the shuttle driver will be waiting for you OUTSIDE on the curb!!! The insurance on the car is huge, but they are using that like ransom to get you to listen to a timeshare pitch and then tempting you with a discount on the rental car if you attend. Choose to listen to the pitch or not, that is the question. We chose NOT!

Make sure you visit Playa de la Amor (Lover's Beach), Santa Maria Cove and Chileno Beach. The best local meal was at Mariscos de la Guero in San Jose del Cabo. Delicious local tacos and super friendly staff! Ask for Jonathan! Enjoy!

This was our second trip to Cabo San Lucas and our first stay at Playa Grande. The resort is beautiful and the grounds are very well kept. Having the Pacific Ocean right outside the door was amazing. There are definitely people and parts of our stay that stand out. First, I need to say that the most helpful person in the entire resort was Maria the concierge. We had an issue with a rental car company and she went way out of her way to help us resolve the problem. If you are looking to do anything in Cabo, please see Maria. You will not be sorry, she is great! The next thing that made our stay was the entertainment. We looked forward to the theme nights and watching Humberto, Juan and Rose. Roberto had us rolling with laughter every night. Don't miss the Boogie Night. Very funny and the dancers were very talented. We purchased the all-inclusive plan and it worked for us. If you want to eat in town or cook your own meals, it may not be for you. We enjoyed the "no worry" eating and drinking throughout the day and night. It also gave us free internet which was important to us. The best thing about this resort is definitely location, location, location! We were walking distance from everywhere and we did not need to worry about the "party" crowd on the other side. We could visit the crowded beaches but when we were done, we could go back to the peaceful beach in front of the Playa Grande. Well worth the trip. We will definitely be back next year.

Room Tip: Rooms in Bldg A are great. We were in 1075….walk outside and you are on the beach. Beautiful!
