“Mixed feelings”
Reviewed 14 November 2013 via mobile

Positive: good food at the restaurants, great Italian coffee at the newly opened Cupcake place. Nice kids club with excellent supervision - thanks Mariasol

Not so positive: deceiving hotel photos, room we got was nothing like those pictures and in urgent need of fixing. Booked through mayavak who promised we would be contacted by the hotel for airport pickup, but nobody showed up. Spent an hour at checkin because they could not find our reservation, and they insisted on a paper copy of an e-mail with not much more than our names and a code. Concierge Ricardo was more busy selling timeshare presentations than serving paying guests.

Overall: mixed feelings, not really worth the price tag.

Our trip here was at the end of October for 4 nights. We had a good time during our stay. The hotel room was clean and it was nice to stay in a newly renovated room. I can't say much for activities because we did not participate in any, but I truly enjoyed the pool and beach time. The hotel did not seem fully booked and there were plenty of spots by the multiple pools for some lounging. I liked that the hotel was across the street from the marina. Although the walk was a little far from the front lobby, it was too bad. I do have to say that I didn't enjoy the food too much. There were good options, but the food was not that great. Otherwise, it is a great place to stay for the price.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 4125 (I think). There is a view of the marina and a partial view of the ocean. It...

The location is really what is amazing about this property. The hotel sits right across from the Marina and is walk-able to all the things you'd want to do around downtown CSL. The hotel has clearly been going under a lot of renovations since Sandos bought it, and the new parts are awesome, but there is definitely still room for improvement.

Pros:
LOCATION!
Greeted with Champagne upon arrival
Pools are great
Staff is helpful, even if not entirely knowing
Rooms are comfortable enough
All Inclusive (most in the good locations are not)
24 hour Room Service
The Spa was amazing.. Seriously the nicest spa I've been to. Really lovely
Fitness center with group classes for free
Great views of the Marina and bay from the main buffet restaurant and upper level outdoor areas
Beautiful views at all angles of the hotel of the Ocean or Marina.

Cons:
*Time-Share hounding begins right after check in with the "Concierge" (although, we did get 2 free massages and 1/2 off a sunset cruise for signing up, so not the worst deal!)
*Food is OK. If you want GREAT food, this is not your place. Careful with the bagels!
*Limited variety of restaurants - Only 4 total, each open during limited times/meals
*Watered down liquor.. This is typical at a lot of all inclusive hotels, but its just SO obvious. Be sure to ask for STRONG drinks.

Overall - If you're looking for the luxury resort experience, this may not be your place. But if you're looking for easy access to all the things to see and do in Cabo and not be confined to your resort, then I would definitely recommend.
I'd love to revisit in a couple years to see what they've continued to improve with this hotel because it definitely has a TON of potential.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room not on ground level. We were on the ground level and it felt like an awkward...

We stayed Sandos Finisterra from Oct 27th to Nov 8th and had a fantastic time.

We arrived around 430 and check in was a breeze, a glass of champagne was offered as we checked in and I asked if there was a high floor, updated room available in the junior suite section we had reserved and was informed that we had been upgraded to one of the totally refurbished ocean view suites! SWEET!!!!

The vacation club rep (concierge) only asked us once for a tour and when I declined he never bothered us again even though I had to stop by his desk many times to make dinner ressies.

Our room was better than fantastic, only 15 steps from the private suites area upper pool with a bar that was open from around 11 till 6 pm, it was like having our own private bartender right outside our door waiting for me.

By the time we got unpacked and settled in it was time for dinner so we went to the buffet for our first night and were pleasantly surprised by the quality as we generally do not like all inclusive and especially avoid the buffets but this buffet had the food in small serving plates which helped keep the food from sitting out under the heat lamps for hours before being served. We ended up having dinner at the buffet 6 nights of our 12 which normally we would NEVER do but we enjoyed it so much we did go many times. Each night is a different theme night and on Cajon night there was even lobster served and prime rib another night.

We ran into other TA members at dinner that I had chatted with on the Cabo forum so after dinner we went to the outdoor entertainment area called Finisterra Plaza with them and had a great evening listening to a rock band and giving the bartender a test run which he passed with flying colors.

I won’t give you a dad by day but wanted to review what an awesome time we had the first day and how excited we were thinking we would have 11 more days of this.

Food. We had breakfast every morning sitting outside overlooking the marina which has to be the BEST breakfast view anywhere in Cabo, FANTASTIC!! Various cheeses, omelets, hash browns and English muffins along with mimosas were the order of the day most mornings, all of which were excellent!

Lunch was at Agave everyday as we enjoyed the ala carte offerings there, Arrechetta steak, tacos. Nachos, calamari and various sandwiches with fries were all great and sitting at the swim up bar under the palapa with lunch and a cocktail is about as good as it gets for me in Mexico! Tortuga is also ala carte for lunch but we enjoyed Agave so much without having to leave the pool we never made it there for lunch.

We had a few ala carte dinners onsite as well as several dinners in town. Onsite we went to the Blue Marlin twice (Italian food) and Tortuga Beach (Mexican) twice, both were good but Tortuga was our favorite as you can have a private table inside or outside in the sand right on the beach. The tortilla soup at Tortuga is FANTASTIC, don’t miss it and the surf and turf is great too but order it with the sauce on the side

Room Service. Room service is included 24/7 and we used it several times, ALWAYS quick and food was piping hot and VERY GOOD!!!!!

Entertainment, this is an area which Finisterra is doing very well and getting better all the time….from the daytime poolside bingo, games, water aerobics and great music (great job Alex and Anna) to the nightly entertainment on Finisterra Plaza to the late night dancing or karaoke at The Stones Bar disco there is always something to do.

Another venue that opened while we were there is the Cupcake Café which serves all kinds of great coffee drinks and smoothies, excellent cakes and of course cool looking cupcakes in a hip setting with LOTS of cool a/c when things get hot in the late afternoon. This doesn’t seem like a big deal but having a nice quiet place to sit down, relax, cool off and have a cappuccino with a slice of mocha cake is outstanding and if its not too hot there are lots of tables outside as well with that same great marina view the buffet has.

Rooms..the junior ocean view rooms are the least expensive rooms and many are still being renovated and once that’s done I’m sure they will look great. It seems that all of the construction onsite is complete with the exception of those rooms and that doesn’t make noise so the little construction still happening was no issue at all for us. The upgraded suites up around the buffet are unbelievably nice, totally redone with rain forest showers, high end tile floors, in room Jacuzzi tub and either an ocean view or marina view. Also a small frig with soda, beer and chocolate bars refilled daily and all of the furnishings are high end. Our room was a 9.5 out of 10 and we COULD NOT have been happier.

Bars, the liquor quality for an all inclusive was more than satisfactory, I would rate it as mid shelf, Baileys, Johnnie Walker Red, Smirnoff Vodkas and the like were the brands. Herradura Blanco and El Jimadore Reposado are the best tequilas offered so ask for it in your maggies and shots or you will get Jose Cuervo Gold.

Staff. LOTS of staff in training but the hotel is ramping up now that the construction is complete and high season is here and it looked like most of the folks training have come from other resorts so they quickly got into the groove and we always had great service though the early morning swimming pool bar bartender could use a little more help when trying to open by himself at 10 am but when his help arrived by 10 30 things were fine but he did get bum rushed everyday trying to open, make drinks for us and get drinks for the servers all at the same time by himself.

Room attendant was a little inconsistent with resupplying small hand towels and washcloths but not really a big deal restaurant servers were ALL fantastic. Beach towels are provided in the room and changed out daily with no towel cards.

Internet. One of the best features is free internet from what I could tell was the entire hotel. I had full connectivity in our room, at the pool and even way down on the beach which is easily 150 yards from the hotel.

Gracias. We want to offer a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone at Sandos Finisterra especially Ramon the sales manager for his gracious help and also to the entire staff who looked after us like family.

In the buffet Ricardo and Oskar are THE BEST and made our mornings with their smiles and service. Also the omelet making guy (sorry I can’t remember his name) is always smiling and ready to make you a tasty breakfast.

Behind the swimup bar during the afternoon and the Tortuga bar in the evening David IS THE MAN, ask him to make you one of his special margaritas and tell him Mike wants more of them!

Jaime the bartender at the small private pool is also a star, ready with a smile and a tasty adult beverage anytime we needed one and sometimes even when I didn’t : ) !

Joel and Ania bringing us cocktails at the adult pool were also top notch for their great service!

All in all we had a perfect vacation at Sandos Finisterra Cabo and look forward to many more visits in the future!

Also BE SURE to bring LOTS of small bills to tip the hard working staff, even though tips are supposed to be included they earn that and much more so show them how much you appreciate them!

The tour operators are sadly mistaken giving this a 4 or higher star rating. Stayed there October 28 for one week and was hounded by timeshare people offering cash, dinners or spa treatments to attend their presentations. It was 20% occupied because the all-inclusive package was way too expensive. The service around the pool was fantastic as there were hardly anyone there to serve. The rooms require updating and still have the old pink tile flooring. The newer part over looking the marina may be better, but the furniture is cheap looking compared to the other resort we stayed at the following week. The resort is still under construction is some areas and has a long way to go to become a 4 star resort.

Room Tip: Stay in the rooms overlooking the ocean, not marina.

We stayed at the Sandos Finisterra in late October for 4 days/3 nights. We were taking a quick trip away from the kids and liked the idea of an all inclusive resort so we didn't have to do much planning. We arranged our own transfers from the airport as the hotel does not offer this service.

Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by a concierge who escorted us to the check in desk and gave us each a glass of champagne. Be prepared for check in to take quite awhile. It appears that most of the staff is new and training and are not the quickest. They frequently had to go ask management for help with the computers or to answer questions. We were told that our king bed room was unavailable, and we had to either upgrade to a suite for $75/night or get a room with 2 fulls. As I came to learn in listening to other guests and reading reviews on here, this is a ploy for them to get you to pay more as it seems to be told to almost everyone. We asked to see the suite room before agreeing to anything. The suites are located away from the main building up on the hillside by 2 of the restaurants and the spa/gym. These suites also have access to their own pool and bar. We told the check in person we would agree to the suites for $50/night and were quite happy with our decision. They had an amazing view of the water.

All of the restaurants are great. We never had a meal we did not enjoy. We made reservations for dinner one night at Tortuga (Mexican) and one night at Blue Marlin (Italian). Tortuga's location on the beach is fantastic. Just as our meal ended, the hotel next door shot off fireworks which was amazing to see. We really enjoyed breakfast each morning at Don Diego's. The view of the marina was fantastic.

When we went, the resort was pretty empty. You could really feel this around the pool area. It was nice to be uncrowded, but it meant there was very little pool service offered. This was okay because the poolside bar offered great drinks.

Upon reading previous reviews, we decided to take some ones with us for tipping. I didn't find that doing this really brought any benefits. We never saw the same bartenders, and even though the resort was empty, the bar staff wasn't very friendly.

We did partake in a timeshare meeting which wasn't too painful. The first 30 minutes (you are required to give them 90 minutes) was spent over breakfast. The rest involved a tour of the resort and then the sales pitch. Just tell them no throughout the experience, and they can't wait to get rid of you. We got a spa voucher out of it which we used to enjoy a couple massage. The massage was great.

We used the gym, which is located in the spa, each morning. Most of the time, we had it to ourselves. There is a lot of equipment available, and a trainer on hand to help you use them correctly. All of the cardio equipment is located by the windows with a view of the marina.

The resort is ideally located to the marina and downtown area. It was only a 10 minute walk.

We did watch one of the entertainment staff shows which was a tribute to 60's and 70's mysic. It was cute and a fun way to end the night.

Overall, as Sandos continues to make upgrades, I am sure things will get better. Service really needs to be improved with the staff being friendlier. The upgrades that have been made make the resort beautiful and a great place to relax.

Thanks to alex, joel, jose luis, roberto, abraham, freddie, and angie for making our stay outstanding with great service and fun pool volleyball and entertainment. This hotel is now lovely and modern and couldnt be in a better location. Im a huge fan of rain showers and hardwood, very nice. The drink options and accessibility was endless. And my husband and I went with some picky eaters and we never had a problem. The pools were gorgeous and never overly crowded. Overall it was a perfect stay. The front desk helped us find great spots in town to eat and party and shop and even a pharmacy for some emergency medication. Thank u all! ~the Garcias (Mr. Tattoo LOL)
