“Great Cabo spot”
Reviewed 4 January 2009

Great location within walking distance to Cabo nightlife, shopping and restaurants. Try to get the newer building that is closer to the ocean. The older building is cheaper but you can only see the other building and no ocean. The Whale Watcher bar had good strong drinks (unlike the pool drinks) and you really can watch the whales. The room was clean and nicely decorated. We had an excellent view overlooking the pool area and the pacific. The pool area is nice. It is quite a party place during spring break season. Expect to see lots of drunk minors. You cannot swim in this part of the ocean. There's plenty of nice sand for beach walks and sandcastles, but no going in the water. The rip currents are too dangerous on the pacific side. If you want ocean swimming stay on the bay or sea of cortez side.

In Cabo be careful of theft. Also, if you rent wave runners they are a blast, but Mexico has not rules so they can be quite dangerous. I was hit by another wave runner and spent the week with with huge black and blue bruises all down my left side. I got lucky.

San Jose del Cabo is a smaller city not far from Cabo San Lucas. It is much more family oriented and is known for some great local artwork. Also a two hour bus ride can take you to Todos Santos where the real Hotel California is (from the Eagle's song). The Hotel California will set you back about $350 a night. It is a beautiful, enchanting hotel. The food there is excellent! Todos Santos is a small town with more great local art and some excellent surfing beaches.

  • Liked — Beautiful views, convenient location.
  • Disliked — A bit too much of a party scene for us. No ocean swimming.

We were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff and to me and my boyfriends suprise, we were given a complimentary bottle of wine at the hotel restaurant. The staff was always willing to help, very friendly!

The rooms were nice, especially the view. Don't mind the bedding because it's worth it to have a view of the ocean. The view is much better than other hotels who have a bay view because you are actually staring out at a beautiful ocean with ocassional boats, instead of staring out a busy bay that is full of jet skiers, water taxis, and CRUISE SHIPS! Not once was anything ever missing from our room, which is ALWAYS a good thing! Also, the hotels breakfast was memorabily delicious! And for you females who worry about this like I do, I NEVER saw ANY bugs in our room! :)

The beach isn't recommended for swimming, but that was a nice touch because there were no vendors and rarely any beach goers. My boyfriend and I were even able to spot some whales from the hammocks.

The hotel is located on a hill, but it really isn't that bad. If you can't handle it or don't feel up to it, the hotel does offer a shuttle down it. Don't be scared by the reviews though, it's not a huge deal.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. This is the place. It's a less than 5 minute walk from the marina, CaboDolphins, and the flea market. Walking around the marina you can find plenty of restaurants to eat at and the mall is about a 15 minute walk. If you aren't up for it there are bicyle taxis or vans located near the entrance.

My boyfriend and I are very particular about things and we absolutely loved this hotel. The resorts decor and atmosphere surpassed our expectations and once again the views and location were perfect.

This is a lovely hotel in Cabo. It's close to downtown so you can walk and avoid taking taxis, although if you don't want to walk the taxi rate is the lowest one available, and the bicycle taxis are also available. The hotel is on the Pacific side, and there is no swimming in the ocean.....although you can surf fish and play wave tag. The beach is private so there are no vendors...what a reprieve from the beach on the gulf side and downtown. The place has 3 pools, so it is no problem not going in the ocean.

The hotel staff are very cordial and went out of their way to accommodate guests. There was a fellow who was going to propose one evening, and the staff in the Blue Marlin Restaurant set up a special table out of the way, built a fire in the fireplace and made sure there was music on the TV (rather than some sporting event) adjacent to the table. They moved the table several times, rearranged the flowers, etc. just to make sure everything was perfect. By the way, the lady said 'yes.'

The beds are wonderful, can't beat the views, the restaurants have good food, and even when the place has high occupancy, it feels kinda like you have your own place. We enjoyed Grill Night at the Blue Marlin on Saturdays, and the breakfast is also very good. We can't imagine staying anywhere else in Cabo.

CON: The major con for me about this hotel was that the beach that the hotel lies on is absolutely unswimmable. You will see maybe two people on the beach every day it is incredible! No one goes out there since you can't swim in the ocean. There are hammocks out by the beach which are really nice, there are three sets of them. But again, that is the only place you will see people on the beach, which makes sense but was still surprising.
PRO: Beautiful restaurant on the very top of the hotel with a beautiful view. It's the Whale Watcher bar and restaurant and thought the food is nothing special, the view itself is worth checking out while getting a drink at the bar.
I think a hotel experience is what you make out, and I had a nice time at the hotel despite the fact that I couldn't swim in the ocean or for that matter even dip my feet in the water without jumping back from a monster wave. The hotel was very quiet though, which for some could be a benefit and for others not so much. It is definitely not a place, in my opinion as a 19 year old, that I would recommend for people looking to party but more for people looking to relax, and for peace and quiet.

. My overall opinion though is that for the price, there are probably better places to stay.

I stayed at the Finisterra for six nights in October and everything about the place was great. We stayed in the new section and even though our room was on the ground floor, we had a nice view of the pools and ocean. The room was very clean, beds were comfortable and sheets were clean. Bathroom is average. Two things make this hotel a great place to stay in Cabo. First, location. It is within walking distance to everything in Cabo. There is also a small convienence store just down the street that comes in very handy for beverages and snacks, No pesos needed. Secondly this hotel has two good happy hours from 2-4 at the pool and 4-6 at the Whale Watchers bar. The food from pool side as well as room service was good. I found the staff to be good and all public areas of the hotel were clean. I will be staying at the Hotel Finisterra the next time I am in Cabo.

We love the Hotel Finisterra For its Location (with in walking distant of the harbor and town.) and its great pool area and beach. It was not a all-Inclusive at the time we were there but the bar food and drinks were good. I have been to the Hotel Finisterra Twice.

I recently (11/15 to 11/22) stayed at the Finisterra and had a very good experience. The room was very clean and the hotel seems to be well maintained.

I was there with my father who is approaching 70 and, at times, the walk up the hill was a challenge for him when the hotel van was not at the bottom of the hill to shuttle guests to the main building.

I went fishing on multiple days and the hotel offered to keep my fish in the main freezer free of charge. The bellman retrieved it for me on my last day.

The bar and food prices were reasonable and the hotel offered a very competitive exchange rate for USD.

I would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — Close proximity to the central marina area that negates the need for a frequent taxi.
