We had 3 great weeks at HDM and in all that time I couldn't find anything negative. Beach is great, but not for swimming, not a problem though as the pools are wonderful. Grounds beautiful and immaculate. Apartments well stocked and spotless. We enjoyed food at several restaurants but Pitahayas was the best, pricey but worth it! All the staff were friendly helpful and even got the English sense of humour. Long way to go but well worth it.

Room Tip: Try to get a room above the ground floor so that the patio doors can be left open at night for venti...

We had a one bedroom for the first week and a two bedroom unit for the second week. The grounds were immaculate and the rooms were very spacious and always clean. Both kitchens were well stocked and very functional. The staff in every area of the complex were very kind, helpful, friendly, and first class! The only draw back for us was that we do cook a lot and we had to figure how much food to get at Wal Mart so we didn't have to rent a cab and go twice. They do have a small mini mart which we did go to when we needed something quickly. We'd definitely stay here again.

My husband and I just returned from a week at the Hacienda Del Mar Vacation Club. This resort is adjacent to the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar resort and shares all the same restaurants, pools and facilities. We had a two bedroom three bath condo that was nicely furnished. I love to cook and the kitchen was well outfitted with nice pots, pans, utensils, dishes and glasses (wine glass as well). It even had a juicer and blender. It would have been nice to have a full size oven, but the convection unit worked just fine. There was a coffee pot and there were coffee filters in our room. They provide dish soap and paper towels as well. We were in building 700 which had three balconies; two were ocean view and one off the second bedroom that was a garden view. All three had nice padded furniture. There are some rooms at the back ad edge of the resort that have been remodeled with granite counters, washer dryers, etc. They were nice, but we really preferred our well maintained unit and its central location and close proximity to pools and beach. There are five pools, two that are infinity and beach side plus numerous hot tubs. The pool on the northwest side of the resort, Delfines, has a lovely swim up bar. We enjoyed many afternoons there. There are happy hours, which feature two for one drinks at various times of the day throughout the resort. All the drinks were freshly made and very good. Just ask the concierge for a list of the activities and happy hours.

We enjoyed sunrise at the beachfront pool most mornings. There is very good free coffee to go in the Sheraton hotel near Tomatoes restaurant. Even on the busiest day, you could find padded pool loungers throughout the day. There were also beach porters that would set up beach loungers and chairs wherever you liked. Beach towels are provided and can be exchanged as often as needed.

The grounds were immaculate and you should take the time to look around at all the unique species of plants that are identified by plaques throughout the resort. At every turn there is a lovely space adorned by art, fountains and unique architectural features. Walking the resort is a pleasure. Bring you camera for some amazing photo opportunities. There in observation tower available by taking the elevator to the top floor of the main hotel and then two flights of circular stairs. The views from there are amazing. Definitely worth the trip for sunrise.

We did take the tour for the timeshare. It was not high pressure and we learned a lot about the resort. We already own elsewhere, so it wasn’t for us right now. However, it was a great way to learn about the resort and the facilities and includes a nice breakfast.

The resort is about 30 minutes from the airport and San Jose Del Cabo and 10 minutes from Cabo San Lucas. The resort sits on a beautiful private beach surrounded by golf course with an expansive view of the sea of Cortez. We saw whales every day from the pools and beach. If you go during whale season, don’t forget to bring binoculars.

We rented a car at the airport for a week, but next time we would take an airport shuttle that offered a quick stop at the grocery store in San Jose. They had rental cars onsite, and we would go that route or take the shuttle or cab into San Jose next trip. One tip regarding grocery shopping, the stores are laid out differently, and I was not prepared to look for the Mexican name on grocery items. Thankfully, there were some kind people that helped me find what I needed. Next time, I will prepare my list in advance with the help of Google translate. As other have mentioned, there is a Costco, Sams and Walmart nearby. We actually preferred Soriano’s grocery in town if you have a car or can stop in San Jose on the shuttle in. The Cabo area is safe and the people were all very nice. We never felt unsafe or uncomfortable even on the side streets in town.

We enjoyed several breakfasts and a dinner at Girasoles, where everything on the menu is available with Bloody Marys and Mimosas for $17.50 US all you can eat. This was our favorite restaurant. Favorite dishes were the Chiliquiles, Smoked Marlin and seafood stew. We had dinner at Pitahayas as well. It is a lovely location on the beach and the food was five star and was priced accordingly.

The resort is quite large and there is a great deal walking and steps. They have ramps, but some were fairly steep. It wasn’t a problem for us, but it might be for the physically challenged to navigate the whole resort on foot. However, they have carts that you can call for transportation and most buildings we saw had elevators. If that were a concern for you, I would let them know when you reserve, and I’m sure they would be happy to accommodate you.

We actually arrived at the resort about an hour before the normal check in and were prepared to wait. However, we were given a room right away. From talking to others, I would recommend arriving earlier in the day rather than later for the best room locations.

As others have mentioned, this is a quiet resort. There is no nightlife at the resort, but it is a short ride into town for a livelier scene. We met and enjoyed visiting with other guests form all over the US and Canada.

In town, I would recommend Monkey Business for a fabulous margarita, Salvatore’s for a great Italian dinner and renting a private pontoon from Precious Toons at Rancho tours for whale watching.

Overall it was a lovely week and we will likely return.

Room Tip: If stairs aren't an issue, ask for one of the buildings close to the beach with a view. They ar...

This was our first time trading our timeshare and I'm glad we picked Cabo San Lucas and the Hacienda del Mar. The hotel is a Sheraton property and it is beautifully landscaped. All the employees we met were very friendly and helpful. Check in was very quick except for the timeshare portion, after you check in you are greeted by a timeshare rep who wants you to attend a presentation your first morning there. We already own a timeshare why would we want another one. She wanted to charge us $20 and we would get it back when we came to the presentation. After traveling 10 hours I just want to get to my room.

Our room was called a studio unit but it was huge with 2 queen beds, a separate sitting area with kitchenette, 2 flat screen tvs and a huge balcony. The 1st part of the balcony has 2 chairs and a small table and was covered the 2nd part had 2 lounge chairs and a table and was under a pergola to give you some sun protection and the 3rd part was out in the open if you wanted to sunbathe. 1 draw back to the room was the noise, it definitely was not soundproof we could hear the people upstairs walking around and dropping things and every morning at 4:00 someone's car alarm would go off. We were in room 3816 which is at the very edge of the resort and actually overlooked the service area which had a large hole where trash was dumped. You couldn't see it if you were on the lounge chairs only if you stood up and looked that way.

I found the restaurants to be pricey. Breakfast buffet at Tomatoes cost us $55 for 2. Girasoles breakfast was by far the best $17.50 each all you can eat off a menu. We shopped at WalMart for food and drinks so we didn't have to eat out every morning. All the food we had at the hotel was delicious. We went fishing 1 day and the chef at Girasoles cooked it for us that night and it was very good. We had a very romantic dinner at De Cortez, sat on the patio overlooking the beach with a huge full moon over the ocean. We never ate at Pitahayas but we loved to have a drink at the bar there and look out at the ocean. Also El Suerte was a beautiful location to see the ocean and the pool.

We took a fishing excursion with Marina's Fleet the captain was Arturo Moreno. This was probably the most disappointing part of the trip. We paid $400 for an 8 hour trip then had to pay for the fishing licenses $34, live bait $30 and to get on the dock another $1. We brought our own lunches and drinks. About 45 mins outside the harbor we caught 3 mahi mahi. We went further up the coast about 45 mins and just circled the same area for 6 hours and never caught anything else. The captain obviously didn't want to waste his gas going further out and then he never used the bait we paid for. When we got back to the marina he expected us to give him all the fish. We gave him 1 and kept the other 2 even though we knew we wouldn't be able to eat it all. There are much better companies to use with much better boats.

We golfed at the desert course and the ocean course and although everyone seemed to think the ocean course was the better one and more picturesque we did not agree. The desert course is beautifully manicured with views of the ocean as well. There were a couple holes on the ocean course that seemed to be thrown in just to say they have 4-5 holes on the ocean.

Another issue we had was the rental car we booked. I did not know in Mexico if you rent a car they will be putting a hold on your credit card. I turned down the optional insurance and was told there would be a $3000 hold on my CC. I decided to go with the full insurance but there was still going to be a hold of $1500 because the insurance doesn't cover the interior. Needless to say I cancelled the rental and took the airport shuttle. As it turned out we really didn't need a car. The hotel offers a shuttle to town for $10 r/t per person. Only problem is if you want to stay out late the last shuttle back to the hotel is at 9:30.

All in all Cabo is beautiful, the weather was perfect mid 80's during the day to high 50's at night. the hotel was beautiful and comfortable but a little bit of a distance from town and we met a lot of very nice people, employees as well as guests.

We traveled with our two kids (3 years and 6 months), and our brother and sister-in-law and their one year old. We stayed in a two bedroom unit, three bath unit. Our unit (1314) was on the ground floor and had a beautiful garden accessible from the patio. The kitchen, living and dining room were a great size and provided ample room for the kids to cruise and explore while indoors. We enjoyed trying out a different pool each day, there are 6 pools - adults only, infinity, activity, kids, swim up bar, infinity pool. There was always a chair available. We cooked in our unit as well as sampling all of the restaurants. Girasoles has affordable Mexican cuisine, Tomatoes has a large buffet for a reasonable price for every meal, De Cortez is an amazing steak house right on the beach. Palapas is a Polynesian dining experience. Girasoles and Tomatoes welcomed our small children and gave complimentary meals to the little ones who wouldn't eat a full meal. The staff went above and beyond to accomodate our large family, and assisted greatly in lugging around all of our possessions. All staff seemed genuinely pleased to have our kids around. The resort provides at shuttle every 90 minutes to and from the centre of Cabo San Lucas for $10. We traveled into town twice for activities and shopping. We enjoyed the trip so much we are headed back next year.
