Casa Contenta Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 27 Cabo San Lucas B&B and Inns
Reviewed 10 October 2013

We were looking for a nice, week long, relaxing getaway at a warm local and Casa Contenta sure hit the spot.

Whenever we travel my wife and I always try to find the small, charming Inns and B & B in which to stay and we certainly would place Craig and Lori's place in Cabo San Lucas at the top of our list.

The house and rooms are spotless and beautifully decorated and the hosts do a spectacular job of making you feel at home and truly relaxed. The house just makes you want to hang out at the pool and on the deck while reading either your own materials or some of the many books dotting the property. The free wifi allows one to stay connected if necessary, which in today's busy world is always a nice touch. Any one of the 5 rooms is perfect, well decorated, clean and sports a large, lovely bathroom.

The house offers beautiful gardens and an open, airy lay out with a great view of both the magnificent sunsets and the city of Cabo San Lucas. The roof patio with the big fire pit and lounge chairs makes for truly wonderful evening sundowners before heading out for any one of the many excellent restaurant recommendations from Craig.

One of the highlights of our stay was each and every breakfast. Beautifully prepared and present on the outside deck, it never failed to disappoint! Service is unobtrusive and very well done with our rooms cleaned and ready by the end of breakfast each day. Craig's very convenient self-serve wine cooler is also and a great bargain and incredibly convenient.

My wife and I had a terrific week at Casa Contenta and will no doubt find our way back there as soon as the need for some serious relaxation and sunset watching hits us once again.

Kudos to Craig and Lori for being such fine hosts and creating such a wonderful oasis.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem equally comfortable and well appointed.

Zen, worldly, and romantic, getaway, ‘on top of the world.’ This oasis offered a refreshing contrast to the over-commercialized, all-inclusive, spring-break approach to Cabos. In stark contrast to that Cabos, Casa Contenta lives up to its #1 spot on TripAdvisor, it is a rare chance to live in a friendly mansion, overlook the end/beginning of Baja Mexico, and be pampered, through your taste buds as well as your brain buds.

I hesitate to explain too much, to not ruin the experience for you… below is a summary of the highlights!

Host: Lori was zen, chill, spunky, an inspiring expat local, and gave us the attention we needed without ever being too much, as we were on a romantic vacation, it was nice to sometimes feel like there really was no one there but us. Lori was often doing exciting things in the area, like going on horseback riding outings, yoga, and the like. So if you are active and outdoorsy, great person to talk to.

Location: The location is great. It is quite, peaceful, safe and away from all the wild nightlife on the main strip of Cabo. It is only 8 minutes away. We found a good balance of exploring nightlife when necessary (we had a rental car) but even without one, our hosts also helped us organize for a safe taxi to pick us up at one point. You won’t find a corner market or things like this on the street or too nearby, which is actually very nice for making it more exclusive, and peaceful, just plan on bringing snacks and stocking up on anything you need before heading home.

The house: The building is a castle of sorts, overlooking all of Cabo, with an expansive view of the water, the massive rocks, the sunset, and the rest of the town. The decoration is due to nature (a jungle of vines, plants, trees, flowers) just as it is composed by an eclectic and international mix of authentic pieces from all over. The variety of decorations all blend together seamlessly, creating the feeling of being at a retreat for reflection. My boyfriend and I gravitated to the comfortable lounge chairs on the top level roof, which invited long talks as the sun went down.

Oh, and there is also a communal library for those staying a little longer. They have guidebooks and a little ‘information’ area in the living room which are ideal for planning your Baja tourism. Strong internet connection.

Room: Remember, this house used to belong to the mayor, so you are not just getting a little hotel room, you are getting a room designed to truly live in long-term, which transforms the experience into something very luxurious. The bathroom has a large bathtub, you have a desk, a couple lounge chairs (almost like a mini living room), and the room is all in the same calming pastel color scheme. The bed was quite large, comfortable, and the whole room was organized very well daily.

Breakfast: A warm breakfast was personally served to us at a gorgeous outside table, overlooking the stunning view of the ocean. We had breakfast burritos, SMOOTHIES, and coffee. The breakfast was decorated so beautifully!

View: The view has been a focus of a majority of the other reviews, and rightfully so. You will see Cabos from above, you will sense that this isn’t just a town centered around the transience of tourism (yes we are all tourists on this site, guilty as charged! Hehe) but you will see the residential side of town, as well as everything else that works its way into the 360 degree vantage point you have on the top layer of this castle cake house!

Privacy: We were so lucky to have it all to ourselves when we visited at the start of July, but even if other guests are there, you will have multiple asymmetrical and unique spaces to have all to yourself . There are overlapping terraces, a pool, eating areas, a garden, a huge living room, with a specialized wine bar! (The husband of the couple used to be in the wine business. You can lock your room, and you can arrive at any time, no questions asked, all which creates the feeling of your own place.

Pets: We were greeted by a few very endearing doggies, one of which bit on a chew toy that made a funny frog sound. The dogs are friendly but not overwhelming, we played with them, but they never got in the way. The doggies wear bandanas around their necks, too cute.

It was our first time in Cabo on our romantic getaway and we loved every minute of our stay at Casa Contenta. Craig and Lori opened their hearts and home to us. We were lucky to have the villa to ourselves while Dora and Chewy fed us the most amazing healthy breakfast everyday. The 4th floor sky deck was an oasis to end the day with amazing wine, fire pit and beautiful sunset 360 degree view along with a dip in the pool. Lori and Craig know all the best spots and secret hideaways on Cabo. We look forward to our return!

This was our second visit to Casa Contenta and this time we brought the whole family - 12 of us ages 9 to 84! Everyone said it was the best vacation ever. Close enough to any of the activities we wanted to try, but then always returning to the calm and beauty of Casa Contenta. Spotless bedrooms, comfortable beds, ample closet space, spa-like bathrooms and the most glorious views imaginable. Plenty of space for us to spread out and find a quiet nook to doze, read or sun. Lori and Craig are the ultimate in thoughtful, sensitive hosts (and fun).

Room Tip: All rooms are large, comfortable and clean.

We felt thoroughly pampered and relaxed in Lori and Craig's wonderful house. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Dora and Choy are delightful and each day produce the most amazing breakfast, different on each of our 6 day stay. The decor, ambiance and views are fabulous, the 3 dogs friendly and well behaved, the various terraces and seating areas are private, comfortable and luxurious. We aim to come back to enjoy another marvellous stay in this beautiful home.

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw seemed very good.

This place is really wow. So relaxed, felt at home immediately and was in fact my first experience at a B&B. Craig and Lori are wonderful and will do anything to make you feel at ease. The great breakfasts, good advice for restaurants and beaches and not to forget the great rooftop for views of both sunsets and sunrise! The rooms are very clean and comfortable. We have made several excursions and have at all times felt safe and met warm genuine people. We will be back in this part of Mexico and will surely stay at Casa Contenta again!

From the moment we arrived at Casa Contenta, the worries and stresses of home disappeared and the vacation began. This was our first visit to Los Cabos and our first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast in Mexico as opposed to an all inclusive. What a fantastic decision in both respects! From the moment we arrived, we fell in love with this part of Mexico. Craig and Lori have a wonderful home that truly feels like a home away from home. Our room was lovely and clean with its own ensuite bathroom. The numerous sitting areas both inside and out over-look beautiful gardens and the El Arco de Cabo. Both the sunrises and sunsets are second to none on the fantastic roof-top deck. The breakfasts are truly the icing on the cake. I am not usually a breakfast person but after the first day I was a total convert. Not only are the breakfasts healthy and tasty, but they keep you energized for hours! Craig, Lori and Betty (Lori's mum) are wonderful people who have a wealth of information on the area. All the advice that they gave us from which restaurants to eat at to the best snorkeling beaches to go to was invaluable. A little roadside taco stand that we would have normally driven by, but made a point of stopping at on Craig's suggestion ended up being one of our favorite places. My only regret.....there was so much to see in do in Los Cabos that we truly didn't spend enough time just relaxing and enjoying the beauty of Casa Contenta itself. A week was not enough but we'll be back!!
