“Excellent experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

We stayed here in mid-October. There were 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 kids (10-13 y.o.). Based on previous reviews, we requested a room on the upper floor. The view was amazing. It was nice to not be in the hustle/bustle of town and not on a beach with a bunch of hotels. It was not like in town where there seemed to be a bunch of hotels in a row. However, town was a quick, easy drive. From previous reviews we were concerned about pressure to attend the time-share presentation but once we said no at check-in, they did not bother us at all.

The room was by the far the best room we have ever stayed in at an all-inclusive resort. The entire resort was well-cared for and beautiful. The kids had a great time at the pools and the activities director, Fernan, kept them engaged and active. There is no real beach here but there are beds down by the water that are very peaceful and the kids loved combing the beach and finding shark teeth. My husband did get in the water and snorkeled and it was amazing snorkeling!

We loved the food and our servers were attentive. The breakfast buffet, the poolside restaurants (which we often ordered food from our lounge chairs- loved the nachos, the guac, the ceviche...yum), the sushi bar and Las Marias (try the molcajete!) were excellent. We did have one meal at the fancy restaurant and also had a great meal. It was not fast but this was part of the atmosphere. My steak was a little overdone but everyone else enjoyed their meals and the chef whipped up things not on the menu that our kids requested.

We rented a car, which I would highly recommend, and when we went into town, we were able to drive to the sister hotel and park for free. The sister hotel is right on the main strip of the pier downtown. My husband did do a SCUBA trip and it was amazing and we also went on a snorkeling tour and had a great time. We took a one-day trip to Chileno Beach. It was very clean and the snorkeling and swimming was fantastic.

In terms of the all-inclusive, what is and is not covered is listed on the website. We had no problems with the alcohol or any of the food we ordered. We obviously were not ordering certain brands though. It does say gratuities were included but we found out it was a low percentage so we did add additional gratuities.

The only complaint we had is that we were told the pools closed at 10 and we would often go down at 8:30 or 9:00 and they would already be closed. We kept asking people and getting different closing times and kept trying to get down to let the kids swim in the dark and never seemed to make it before they closed it down.

Room Tip: The front building is only for time share owners. We stayed on top floor in room 5260 and the view w...

I just got married at the Hacienda Encantada on 10/26/13. We had 26 guests also stay at the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised with pretty much everything about this place! The rooms were large and clean (no carpet, only tile floors), the food was very good (trust me, I've spent time at several other Cabo hotels and you won't find better food!) and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our wedding coordinator Edith was very efficient, pleasant, and helpful. The view is second to none and the infinity pool will draw you in day after day with the delicious food and drinks along with the unforgettable scenery! My only small complaint is that everything you utilize at this hotel requires you to sign your room number to it. This includes the free shuttle in to town, If it's just a couple of people, it's not difficult. But for our large group, it was a bit of a cumbersome process. However, this is how it works at an all-inclusive hotel in Mexico. This aside, I liked how close this hotel was to town but far enough away that you feel like you are in a tropical paradise. It was quiet and peaceful and we would absolutely go back. The cleaning staff was meticulous and our room was always very clean. We were thoroughly satisfied with how our wedding day turned out and would recommend this hotel to virtually everyone!

This is a soft 3 star review.

The setting, location and service was spot on; can't really get a more picturesque view or a more friendly staff. This was where I would give it a 5 star.

Here is where it went downhill:

When we arrived and checked in, the front desk person gave us a sheet telling us that some of our inclusive package was covered but other areas were not.

Here is what was not:

--certain types of alcohol
--certain restaurants at certain times
--Wifi was extra unless you went to the Business Center and then had to pay $5US to use the Internet
--The "free" shuttle to town was $20 per person round trip
--Room Service was a 40% discount

We looked all over their site and did not see restrictions mentioned. Ran into some time share owners that even complained when they did the all inclusive before they bought in...they were so upset they moved to another resort and asked for a discount from the parent company.

Food--1 Star. Hey, I LOVE Mexican food, even not so great Mexican food, but the food that they served at the resort was really not very good at all. The AM buffet was HORRIBLE. They also had an a la carte menu that took forever (we ordered from the menu the first morning there); it took so long that I jokingly mentioned to my wife that I thought it was their way of telling us to use the buffet.

Dinner wasn't much better. The fancy restaurant mentioned that they require a reservation and formal wear, so I packed slacks and a shirt. When we got there, EVERYONE had on shorts, flip flops and a t-shirt/polo shirt. Ordered the beef medallion medium rare, showed up 45 minutes later almost well done. At that point, I wasn't going to wait longer for them to redo it. Again, service was great. Sadly the pool food was the best of any of the options with the Arranchera being the best of all the choices.

Rooms were fine. We had requested a single king bed and they put us in with two queens...not the romantic set up that we hoped for. When we called to see if they could relocate us, they said that they couldn't because they were at full occupancy. Really? The pool never had more than 50 or so people and we never saw more than 20-30 people (mostly less) in any of the restaurants at any given time.

So all in all, beautiful scenery, great service but that's about it. Also keep in mind that this is a time share resort so they push that at the start and many of the guests there owners. Was hoping for a better experience, something similar to what we had at Secrets Maroma in Playa, but didn't get that.

What a beautiful place! Great rooms and terrific staff. Everyone was so trying to please and make this a great time. Special thanks to the pool bar staff and Marta and Cesar . I would recommend this resort to the fussiest people. We heard that they had just hired a new food manager and it must have been the right thing to do because the food was excellent! Hope to go back sometime!!

Room Tip: This is a hilly resort so decide where you want to spend most of your time. Lots of step, though the...

First off I have to say that this was a vacation with long time friends and we always have a good time. That being said this was a wonderful resort. This was my first time in Cabo San Lucas but our friends are members and have been to Cabo several times. We did not do the all inclusive and found that the food and drink prices were quite reasonable. Drinks were not watered down and the food was delicious. Our room had a beautiful view and we knew going there that there was not a swimming beach. However just walking on the rocky beach, listening to the waves crash was wonderful. If you want to swim in the ocean then this area in not for you. The staff are excellent and try to accommodate all your wishes. There are several bar type restaurants that have great food, but there are two upscale restaurants as well. Tried both but overall the service and food were the best at La Trajinera. We tried steak, seafood and classic Mexican dishes! Recommend the shrimp pasta soup, and the steaks. All were excellent. The service was very upscale. We were not the only ones in the restaurant but it felt as if we were. I would have given this a 5 however, I have to compare it to Sandals in Jamaica. Nothing can be that but this place is wonderful. Thanks again to the all the staff for helping us have a wonderful week! By the way, tried the spa, massage and facial were excellent but a lot more expensive than the same service in the states.

Room Tip: Request a Higher level room if possible. Views are much better.

I can't believe how fast this place has gone downhill. We were in love with place when we first stayed here a year and a half ago. Now the furniture is beat up, the linens are frayed and the bed is lumpy. The grounds are meticulous as are the pools. The staff are great and the pool restaurant serves decent food and drink. Avoid eating at the other restaurants. We voiced our concerns at our 'Owners Luncheon' and they still tried to sell us an upgrade. These people haven't got a clue.

Will try to be as objective as possible.

Room
We booked a suite. Based on an informal survey of other guests I'm pretty sure I'm the sucker that paid the highest price. Oh well. Room was nice. Kitchen, living room, dining room, breakfast bar, and separate bedroom, two full baths. Downside was that we were at pool level with "partial ocean view". This means pretty much no ocean view. What you do get is noise from staff setting up in the morning while you're still sleeping and pretty much non-stop activity throughout the day. And the view ain't great if you get my drift.

We were told they were at 80%+ occupancy but based on the dinner crowd that's doubtful. They moved us to a room two night later that was a couple buildings down the hill and one floor off the ground. Fantastic ocean view but we were right above their "tequila/sushi bar" which was open and noisy until 10 at night.

All inclusive
We got the "Premium All-inclusive" which means you can only eat at the restaurants on-site. I found out too late that if you wanted to eat at the sister resort it was an extra ~$70/day for our family of four. That said, if you don't want to deal with getting the kids ready on time f3 times a day to get to your meal then all-inclusive is the way to go. *And* if you plan on staying at the resort most of the time I highly suggest getting the all inclusive. Breakfast for four on average was ~$70, Lunch just over a hundred and dinner closer to $200. We paid $300/night for suite+all-inclusive so I actually feel like it was mostly a good deal. Would have been much higher if we drank more alcohol too. Just something to keep in mind, you know (makes drinky drinky motion).

Food
Ok, that said (that the all inclusive is a good deal), there's some drawbacks to the all-inclusive. There's only one place for breakfast. And if you've got kids under 12 there's pretty much only one place for dinner. And it's the same place. And even if it was Gary Danko, you'd still get sick of it after a few nights. And it wasn't Gary Danko.

The wait staff at Las Marias/Los Riscos (same place with two different names to make it appear there's more than one dining establishment) are really good. You're greeted and seated in a timely manner.

But things fall apart with the kitchen. Three of the nights I ordered steak which was supposed to be filet and tenderloin. If they were, they were probably select cuts (not even choice). Don't order steak there. I tried the 'sea bass' one night which wasn't bad due to it being smothered in a cream sauce. The only problem was that it didn't taste like any sea bass I've ever had. My suspicions were confirmed when my wife ordered the red snapper the next night and it was exactly the same dish. Also, don't order the carbonara unless watery pasta is your thing. One last thing: service is super slow. I thought it was a Mexico thing, you know like in Europe but more on that later. Normally it's not a huge issue but if you've got young kids then you know a two hour dinner becomes a grind pretty quick.

Ok, there's a bright spot but you gotta eat like a senior citizen. It doesn't involve removing your dentures but it does mean sitting down to eat at 6PM like an early bird specialist. While the view from Las Marias/Los Riscos is pretty spectacular, the view from El Patio at the lower pool is downright stunning. It's sunset dining on the beach. Same great wait staff but food comes out faster, it's hot (forgot to tell you above, we got cold food a few times), since they close at 7 they want you the hell out of there more than you do. We had fish tacos one night, nachos, etc. and it was all good.

So the pros and cons are as follows:

Pros -
- Well trained, professional staff. Everyone says 'hola' and buenos xxxxx. Learn to say it yourself. It's only polite.
- Premium Inclusive is a good deal if you plan on spending a lot of time on the property. A bottle of water is $2 and it's hotter than hell down there so you do the math. If you a lush, even better for you!
- The property itself is really nice. Fairly new resort with stunning views. Not too big so you don't feel like you're getting lost all the time. Architecture and décor was quite tasteful and well thought out. Grounds well kept.
- Rooms were nice, well laid out, and tastefully decorated. Also, mini-bar was restocked every day as part of "Premium All Inclusive".
- Shuttle: Nice if you don't plan on spending a bunch of time in town. It was included as part of the all-inclusive plan but I think it's only a couple bucks a head into town. Runs every two hours so it's fairly convenient.
- Location: It's 10 mins outside of town so you don't get a lot of the party crowd here. Pretty good mix of families and younger to older couples. You get the picture: pretty mellow. If you want to tear it up like you're still in your twenties (or you really are still in your twenties) you may want to stay closer to town.
- Fernan: The activities director. Man this guy is on 24/7. I don't know how he does it. If I had to deal with ***** like me I'd shoot myself. But he was great. Played games with the kids, led them on treasure hunts, suggested restaurants, pointed us at paleterias and dulcerias. Give that guy a raise!

Cons
- While the rooms themselves rocked, the locations of the two rooms we got sucked. Staff claimed there was no trick to getting a desirable room. I figured the folks who got the deals would get equally sucky room locations but it was actually just the opposite. I'm guessing maybe the timesharers got the bulk of the good rooms with the views and above the pool. Or maybe I'm just pissy.
- Dinner at Las Marias/Los Riscos is to be missed. Wait staff great, time from start to finish slow, product is bland.

Would I stay here again? I dunno, maybe. I don't know if I could deal with the food situation again but then the views and the staff are a draw. Maybe if I could figure out how to secure a better room in advance.
