I just returned from a five night stay and really did enjoy this resort. It is beautiful, well maintained and the service is great. The employees are friendly and eager to please. Location is great, walk the beach to the marina/town and take the glass bottom taxi boat back. stopping by the arches for photos for $15. Also at airport, don't get into the bargaining with vendors, just exit on visitors side and to the left are the shuttles for $15. Also, hotel has private return shuttle for $15pp. It does not stop at other hotels. I ate at all the restaurants and had no trouble getting reservations.Food was o.k, with Asian being least favorite and Italian most. Only thing not great was the firm bedding and thin pillows. I stayed in building 7 and even tho it was a nice walk to front area, with the restaurants. So many pools that you can choose a lot of activity or quiet area. Be sure to take a heavy sweater for very cool evenings this time of year as it was in the 40's. Would advise that you bring in lots of dollar bills if you don't want to exchange for pesos. The hotel was very short on US currency. I have stayed at other all-inclusive resorts and found this one to be the best. Looking forward to returning next year!

I have stayed in numerous Riu's in the past, and Riu Santa Fe is by far the best. The location is excellent, the view from pretty much anywhere in the resort is breathtaking and the food and service is definitely something to praise about. The resort is very big, so you will always find the pool, and the restaurants crowded. If you are looking for a quiet vacation, then this resort is probably not the best choice. However, if you are looking for some fun, but at the same time a relaxing vacation, this is the place. There are 3 main pools, the pool closest to the lobby is probably the quietest. There are numerous swim up bars, the best one is the one situated in the smaller pool facing the beach. The service there is excellent and bartenders do make the best pina coladas in all of the resort. The staff at the lobby were very accommodating, and provided us with excellent check in and check out services. The food...oh my, the buffet by the lobby was simply excellent, there were so many choices that by the end of the week, I was still trying out new dishes. We even had a night where they served fresh Spanish coffee outside and gave us free bottles of tequila. The ala cartes, were so-so, but the buffet definitely made up for it. The only thing I didn't care for were the nightly entertainment and the discotheque, but there was a lot to do around the resort that it was not necessary to attend the shows.
The rooms were spotless and big, stocked well with different types of alcohol and water. Overall, this is definitely a 5 star resort! I would recommend it to everyone!

We arrived to a very well planned cocktail reception... no waiting, no line up for our room keys, we travelled with another couple and we were very happy to be across from each other in the rooms. Our room staff was exceptional and met all our needs and kept our Bar well stocked at all times. The golfing is out of this world within minutes from hotel cab ride was $6 american for the four of us. $90. each to golf thru hotel. The hotel staff were out of this world and so was the food. we liked it so much my girlfriend and I are going back again on the 24th of Feb 2011 but we are leaving the men home and a couple more girls are joining us. I know the staff will be glad to see us again!!!!

Traveled Dec 27-Jan 9th with my husband and another couple for 13 nights to this resort. The four of us range in age from 45-52 and have traveled to numerous all inclusive resorts all throughout Mexico and this is our 3rd RIU resort visit.

The good:
-Beautiful resort and grounds.
-Service was incredible and all staff right down to the gardeners always made a point of greeting you.
-Building 7 had beautiful views from most rooms, we had room 7323, front facing and spend many evenings watching the cruise ships leave.
-We never had a bad meal and never tired of the food because there was such a wide variety. We ate at the Italian twice, Asian twice and the Steakhouse once. Buffet always had different themes each night and we enjoyed some of the best cuts of meat we have ever had.
-Outdoor Ole bar with bartender Emmanuale and Fernando provided great drinks and entertainment nightly. If you ask for Smirnoff or Bacardi, etc...they will always oblige but if you don't you will get the no name brand.
3 infinity pools at the beach front of resort which had the best views. We spent almost every day at one of the smaller ones closest to the town of Cabo and it seemed to be the most quite. The other small infinity pool seemed to be party central every day.

The Bad: - there wasn't anything really bad about the resort just a couple things I'd thought I'd point out.

-We all agreed to pay extra for a Ocean View room, when checking into the RIU they tried to give us a garden view and then tried to blame it on Alaska Vacations saying they reserved us the wrong room. Make sure you have documentation with you proving what type of room you are entitled to get.
-The walk from building 7 to the lobby didn't seem bad at first but after almost 2 weeks you were definitely tired of it. It is true what the other reviewers say, its almost 10 minutes.
-Internet is only available in the lobby area if you take your laptop and the connection can be extremely slow but it is free.
-The biggest complaint we have which is no fault of the RIU, it is thanks to the great prices now available to travel to Mexico, was the 20 something year old, so called adults that were there to drink and party as much as they could. It felt like spring break sometimes but I was assured this was no way close to spring break partying. Throwing up at the pool, even throwing shooter glasses one night at the bar was a little much. Thanks Cesar for throwing him out.

We all agreed it was a beautiful resort but being couples in our 40's in future we will look for possibility a resort the quality of a RIU Palace or adults only. Having stayed at both these types of resorts last year, the atmosphere was definitely a little more subdued. If you think its because we are old, no its because we left our 20 year old children at home for a reason.

The fun:
-We rented seadoos right in front of the resort on the beach from Natalia Adventures and went out into the bay.
-We took the whale watching tour in the glass bottom boats, don't pay more than $30/person and ask for Cezar as your guide.
-Take the glass bottom boat to Lover's beach from the resort, $10/person - well worth the money. Bring something to drink with you like the beer from your room, or water.

For any Canadians that need to watch their NHL team you have to go into Cabo to the bar Unusual Suspects, its just a block from Squid Roe. The cab ride is $12 for max 4 people each way to Cabo from the resort.

At the end of the day we had a fantastic vacation but do not think we would go back to Cabo as we much prefer Puerto Vallarta, but that is only a personal choice. If we did by chance return, we would look at staying at the RIU Palace.

When on vacation, everyone is out to have a good time. Although binge drinking and later having those people slamming doors and partying in a room next door to you isn't pleasant.
Regardless, the hotel can't always control everything, the staff were quick to deal with people who were inappropriate or who were causing trouble.
On that note, staff was great. Very helpful and quick to answer any questions. The bar staff by the lobby before the evening show, were super quick to refill your next drink. Cesar the bar manager at the lobby bar had a great sense of humor to play tricks on some of the visitors.
The drive from the airport to the hotel was approximately 45 minutes. If your transfer from the airport to the hotel isn't included you have the choice of taking a taxi which was $80.00USD (one way), or a shuttle for $18.00USD/per person. (Worth taking a shuttle!)

Some of the things my boyfriend and I ended up doing as excursions were: A trip to Lovers Beach $10.00USD/each roundtrip. Defintely worth going to. You'll be able to see sea lions and really neat sand caves.
-Seadoos/Jet Skiing - $45.00 for 40 minutes, a bit of a rip-off, but nonetheless it was still fun.
-Trip to town by bus which the stop was located upon the entry of the RIU hotel was $2USD per person/per direction. If you choose to take a taxi, it is $12.00USD/one way up to 4 people in a taxi.
- My boyfriend went deep seafishing one day. Defintely worth the money. They saw whales and a shark. They caught a Dorado, and had one of the chefs from the hotel cook it for us in three different ways.
In our last day, we had the opportunity to see some whales from the loungers at the hotel. It was quite the sight!

I was a bit disspointed with the a-la-carte wait staff not being informed whether things were cooked with peanuts or traces of nuts in it. My boyfriend has allergies to nuts and although I had asked whether the pasta from the a-la carte had nuts or traces of nuts his answer was yes, then no, and I even asked in spanish to confirm and he said no. There was infact traces of nuts in the oil as they cooked different types of things in one pan. Which resulted to 2 out of the 7 nights for my boyfriend to get an outburst of hives and suffering from swelling.
It was very difficult to make a judgement call on certain dishes not knowing how or with what things were cooked in. So for those of you who are allergic, make sure you stick to what you know what is safe.
RIU's A-la Carte in the Bahamas (menu/food/choice/service) had exceeded my expectations, whereas RIU Santa Fe was 5/10
Nonethless, my boyfriend and I were very pleased with the resort - the space, the choice and something that the hotel cannot control... the weather!
There are plenty of things to do in Cabo and you'll find that you'll never be bored.
I found that the resort had plenty of things to choose from to do in the day and even a nightclub for those who did not want to leave the grounds at night.
There is a Spa you can also use - they offer plenty of treatements at a certain cost.
The gym is free and they have several machines you can use.
Free Wi-Fi in the lobby which you can also access from the dining area.
24- hour bar/snack at the Sports Bar.

There were plenty of families with children, couples young and old, teens, groups, wedding parties.. etc. variation of everything. If you enjoy having a good time and meeting others, you'll fit right in!

I had a wonderful time! The hotel was amazing with the food, drink, service, room, EVERYTHING! My husband and I went for 4 nights and had the ocean view/jacuzzi suite. I highly recommend spending the extra money for this room. Absolutely no complaints. We went into town for the dolphine swim, zodiac whale watching tour and snorkeling. Everything was fabulous. Everyone was friendly too.
