“A truly great vacation.”
Reviewed 2 August 2009

On the positive side:
We traded our two BR in Orlando and received an efficiency however, it turned out to be much more than we thought. It can easily accommodate 4 people but perfect for two, and was actually quite large. The location was beautifully set on an incredible beachfront a short kayak ride away from the arch of Cabo San Lucas. Restaurants and entertainment was available all around us. The hotel food was better than average. The maid service is daily and these folks did a smashing job, including a nightly turn down service with sweet treats and mood music to welcome you upon coming back to your room. The jacuzzi was out of service during our stay. The pool concierge "Paco" is a great asset to the place. He was attentive to us and treated us with the utmost respect. He was helpful, courteous and resourceful in a time when some first aid was necessary.
At the bar look for Juan. What a great guy. Mixes one heck of a Bahama Mama too. The employees of the resort really helped to make the experience unforgettable. A/C was cold, room was very comfortable, sheets, mattress, and pillows were great. The downtown has something for everyone. Also, the marina has many fine restaurants. Check out this little place "Corners" downtown for authentic Mexican food and the biggest Margarita in all of Mexico. Fabian the owner is a UFC enthusiast, so if you or your husband want to see the fights on the big screen you won't have to miss it.

On the negative side:
July was extremely hot there so maybe that isn't the ideal time of year to go to Cabo. The time share presentation sales people are everywhere from the time you get off the plane, till the last night you are there. They are relentless, as well as are the vendors on the beach. They are extremely annoying and probably were my least favorite part of the trip.

Overall I highly recommend the ATV experience on the beach and the sunset cruise on the La Princesa. We had a blast on both. There are many ways to see the arch of Cabo and I have listed the two that we used. Catamaran and kayak. A truly great vacation.

we just returned from a 7 day stay at Casa Dorada. The resort itself is beautiful, rooms are comfortable and clean. we had daily maid service and the AC worked great. However this resort is not greared towards families traveling with kids although mine are 13 and 11. There are no activities to keep them busy and frankly my kids wanted to return after two days. The other thing that I have to point out is that the beach is separated from the hotel pool area by a public alley way and you have to use your room key to open the gates which gives you access to the beach. I am used to beach front properties where you can see and enjoy both ocean and the pool not one or the other. Be aware that on Tuesdays and Fridays the hotel brings people from the cruise ship to the beach, which leaves no chairs and cabanas for the resort guests. Also plan on getting up around 8:00 AM to go down and put your towels and books down to reserve your chairs and cabanas, although the hotel discourages that, if you don't, good luck finding any shade. The resort beach is also surounded by vendors that rent water sport equipmens, so we were constantly breathing in the gasolin instead of fresh sea air. The snorkling adventure with La Proncessa was good, the boat ride was very nice, however if you are expecting krystal clear waters and many colorful fish that is not the case. The water is murkey and not calm and the few fish that you see other than yelow tail are pretty drab looking. You can catch a glass buttom water water taxi right on the beach to go see the Lovers arch and the divorce beach. it's a pleasant short ride for $5 per person. We tried going to down town one night to have dinner at MI Casa which I read the reviews on this site, that was supposed to be within walking distance but with the amount of construction that is going in the city, it took us forever to get there. Also try not to ask the restourant owners that are standing outside to lour people in for direction. Since you are not eating at their establishment they will mis direct you! After trying couple of different restourants in downtown and the Marina, we arrived at the conclusion that 12 tribes at the resort had the best views and the food was better quality than outside for similar prices. Food is not cheap in Cabo. Caludio at the resourant provides the best Service as does Martin at the beach. The breakfast baffet at the Mayadan was very good, $15 per person but during our stay the kids were free. Also the 12 Tribes had couple of night of 25% off the entire bill promotion. You can get great messages on the beach from couple of local ladies for $25 for 1/2 hr.

Dear Nikki040496,

I am sorry to read that your vacation at Casa Dorada was not to your satisfaction and that we failed to fulfill your expectations; nevertheless I feel compelled to state that many of your comments are precisely the reasons why people choose our property, namely, its location: being at Medano Beach, the most renowned and concurred beach in Cabo –and the only swimmable one– has its drawbacks, like the public vendors, an issue that has been mentioned by other writers in this and other forums. Rest assured that we are searching for solutions to this issue with the local government, in coordination with different associations and chambers; yet achieving a resolution will, unfortunately, take some time.

As per other comments you made, there are hotel policies that have been very well received and frequently commended by other guests, like our no-lounge-chair-reservation policy or the safety level that our only-guest-access beach gates provide. You can even find such comments in this same forum (Trip Advisor).

Obviously not all hotels can be everything to all travelers, yet I sincerely feel that we at Casa Dorada fare fairly well with our customers expectations, including families’. I have had the pleasure to work in beautiful and award-winning hotels, yet it does not necessarily mean that every customer has to like or enjoy the experience. I am sorry we could not perform to your expectations.

Sincerely,

Victor Gomez

great place to stay. right on the 50 yard line of the best beach in cabo. Unlike resorts in the tourist corridor, you can swim right in front of the hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. food is excellent. Great restaurants are right on the beach. Only negative is when cruise ships are in the beach is quite busy. This lasts from around 10--3 when cruise ships are in. 5/5

We stayed at Casa Dorado for our 30th anniversary.....great location, could walk everywhere.....clean....had maintenance issues for such a new hotel....BUT....when we called.....the maintenance people came right away and repaired the balcony light....towel rack that fell off the bathroom wall.....light switches....etc.
Beware of the "beach vendors"....we had always gone to Cancun.....I had NO IDEA there would be sooo many pushy, insistent vendors....there is a rope that they are not to cross, which should have clued us in on just how pushy they would be.....the first day we sat right behind the rope.....even if you pretend that you are sleeping they will stand in front of you saying "miss, miss, you want to buy....."....if you say you have no money....they will want you to sign a paper and they will wait until you go get money.....the last 3 days of our stay, we just stayed at the pool because we did not want to "deal" with them.
The food at the hotel was very reasonable and good.....the hotel staff at the pool and lobby were great.....very attentive and helpful.....BUT, stay away from the hotel workers right outside the gate on the beach side.....we would tell them everyday that we just wanted to relax on the beach......they would "insist and argue with you to try to get you to do an activity".......(with a fee).....when I told them no ....again and again.....they said "But, I work for the hotel!......I don't care who they worked for.....if I want to relax....I want them to leave me alone........We visited Pueblo Bonito on Sunset Beach......there were no vendors there.....but, it is a non-swimmable beach......also, you cannot walk anywhere from it.....sooo, it is whatever is important to you....but, as far as the hotel was concerned ....it was great.....as mentioned previously....the elevators were not working all of the days we were there.....also, they are still doing "grounds work" since it is such a new hotel......the water taxis were nice and we did see some sea lions.....

I agree with the last reviewer. Our room was beautiful as was the view. It was a bargain for the price we paid. No complaints there. The location was very good as well. It is well situated in that you have the resort experience within walking distance of the town's central district. However, our overall experience was tainted by the constant bombardment of time share solicitations and come ons. It was definitely a matter of avoiding eye contact and communication in the lobby area at all times so as to avoid getting sucked into a time share sales pitch. As a result, it took away from the experience where I cannot recommend this hotel to fellow travelers. If the management changes their policy on this, my feelings would probably change because of the overall value. However, we also had a separate issue with some missing items by the pool along with a request for a late check out time. On both fronts, we encountered push back by the hotel's staff, excuses, and no desire to accomodate. It left a bad taste in my mouth. This is my first TA review. I have had many good trips based on other reviews I have read here. Accordingly, I feel compelled to warn others of our experience at Casa Dorada.

We stayed at the Casa Dorada in June 2008and thought they did a great job, but our visit last week far exceeded the prior experience. In 2008 they had only been open a few months and were obviuously working out a few kinks. We just got back after a week long trip and they mastered customer service from the second we stepped out of the shuttle service. Everyone from the concierge to housekeeping staff to the pool service staff treated my family as royalty and wanted to be certain that every expectation was met. The hotel was well maintained, the grounds were immaculate and the staff were exceptional. There was a great mix of visitors therefore it made it comfortable for all that attended. It wasn't overrun with kids or overwhelmbed by a wild college crowd. It seemed to have the right mix so everyone enjoyed themselves. Some of the hi-lights of the hotel included
1. Night entertainment (i.e. live band, mix concerts projected on a big screen, movie on the big screen)
2. Pool atmosphere (i.e. ping pong, pool volleyball, mariachee bands, restaurant/bar pool service, incredible lounging furnuture-beds, chairs, circular loungers). They are having some issues with the install of the pool but they are going to address it in mid-september when census is low. The tiles are coming off of the bottom of the pool, but it did not prevent anyone from swimming. Wait till you see the lights in the bottom of the pool. It looks like stars throughout. A nice touch.
3. Kids Club: on-site kids club that is open from about 9am-6pm. The staff were fantastich and our kids had a fantastic time. Activities included crafts, face painting, bubbles, Wii, X-box, legos, games, etc.... It was a perfect way to break up the day when the kids have been in the pool or ocean a good part of the day.
4. Cleanliness: the place is kept beautiful and the housekeeping staff do a wonderful job. They are always cleaning the hallways, walls, railings, etc... They come to your room twice per day cleaning your dishes, room, and turn down your bed nightly. My kids favorite time was seeing what towel characters they left on the beds each night. Great personal touch.
5. Location, Location, Location!!! Can't beat the location. We stayed at the Hilton Los Cabos a few years ago and had a wonderful time but had to take a 20 minute cab ride every time we wanted to go into town. Almost eveything is in walking distance or a short cab ride. The beach is one of the few swimable beaches in Cabo and has a great view of the Lover's Beach, rocks, etc...
6. Rooms: great accomodations. We had the 2-bed room suite which includes a room with a king, living area w/kitchen, and another bedroom with 2-double beds. You can sleep 8 in this suite if you have folks that will sleep on the pull-out couch. There is a nice size kitchen, dinner table that seats eight, a big jacuzzi tub, and three seperate patios.

Some suggestions away from the hotel:
1. Two great restaurants right on the beach next to the hotel- Medano Beach Club and The Sand Bar. They are both very casual, but offer great food, atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant. It's nice to be able to walk over there barefoot and eat Red Snapper on the beach. Eat the red snapper at the Sand Bar. It is amazing.
2. Mi Casa and Las Golondrinas are two great restaurants to take the family. They are reasonably priced, offer a great experience for the family, and the food is great.
3. If you have a night out without kids and want to have a romantic affordable dinner, you have to go to Sunset Da Mona Lisa. I found it on the internet and it is spectacular. About a 5-10 minute taxi ride from the hotel and it is amazing. The view and staff are wonderful and the place itself is amazing. It is located on the cliffs and has many levels. You have to see it for yourself to appreciate it. It is definitely a treat. Google this on the internet.
4. Take a trip on the EcoCat. It is one of the largest catamaran's in the world. I went out on this twice for a snorkel trip in the daytime and a dinner sunset cruise at night. Great boat, great staff, reasonably priced, great experience.

Important Tips/Things to Know:
1. Didn't see one place that accepts American Express
2. Take plenty of cash. Some of the excursion places give discounts with cash and sometimes their credit machines do now work miraculously.
3. Booked transport ahead of time and paid $120 from the airport to the hotel. Coming back we took a taxi in a decent van and it only cost $65. Stick with the taxi.
4. Go to Walmart which is only a few minutes down the road and stock up on water, cokes, cereal, and lite snacks. The rooms include a fridge, stove, dishes, etc... It is a great way to save some money and it is nice to have when you don't feel like going to the restaurant or bar.
5. Don't get a room on the 1st or 2nd floor. Need to be on the 3rd floor or higher to have a nice view.

Hopefully this helps you out. I have stayed a lot of places during my life and this is the first time I have seen a hotel go so far out of their way to ensure their guest have a wonderful time. You will definitley enjoy yourself whether you are going on your honeymoon, having a guys/ladies trip, or are traveling with the family.

Adios!!!

Casa Dorada, is the best hotel I ever stay, clean, elegant, modern very well located, the services is excellent, food is very good, Restaurats are beautiful andt he Spa is great but praicy ,if you are a spa lover you won't mind. The pool has a perfect view to the ocean and it has its own privated beach with canapes. It has a kid's zone too, is a prefect hotel for families and cupels that like quiet and nice luxiurios hotels. You can esaly walk to the Marina here you will find all shopping from suvenirs to the most expensive brands. Also here is a best place to eat and party .
I would recomed to eat at "Restaurant los Deseos" in la marina is a mexican food resturant, great food and service!!
Other tip stay away of the time-sheer sellers, and buy you own tickets directly >>>look for the water taxi EL CHOMPIRAS BY JESUS and pay him directly if you like to go to lovers beach and the Arc ,,,excelente and cheap only about 7per person round trip.
If you like Zip line go to Wild Canyon, is a grat adveture if like extreme sports, but be aware of the high temperatures is really hot!!!!
It was the prefect place to stay, Los Cabos if very safe, clean and frendly you will love it!!!!
It was my first time there and I defenetly go back.
