“Nice property, very large, great views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

This hotel has several different pools to choose from. A few that are 'adults only'. They share the property with a time share called Club Regina. Basically, they are they same property in my opinon.

You can come as go as you choose between the properties and use the pools and amenities at either property. More casual restaurants at time share, very good food. Higher end restaurants at Westin. Also, very good. We ate at several.

I did see that there was a pool that was under construction in June. Check on that.

But, overall great place. Reasonable prices. Nice rooms. No swimmable beach in the area. So, it's pools only. Close to town (San Jose...not Cabo) where there is a nice assortment of shops and restaurants and a nice new marina where you can book a cruise. San Jose is much more mellow than Cabo. I prefer it. Remember, you will be a good distance from Cabo and the cab ride will average about 40 USD each way. That can add up fast. Also, very nice gym.

Room Tip: Large property. Try for a room closer to the pools and with good view (obiously!)

I stayed at the Westin Los Cabos for 6 nights during the week of 4th of July. Overall the place is nice, however before here be warned of the following:

Location

This hotel is about a 15 minute drive to either San Jose del Cabo and Cabos San Lucas. This isn't such a big deal, except the hotel offers no shuttle service and cabs are $30 -- one way. If you plan to go anywhere besides the resort, be aware you'll be spending at least $60-80USD on cab ride per day. Watch out for the cab drivers, they will try and short change you and will likely charge you extra for the people in your party.

I strongly recommend reconsidering booking this hotel when visiting Los Cabos for the location alone. For the obnoxious amount you'll be spending in transportation per day you're better off staying somewhere closer to the city. I probably would've given this review 5 stars if it weren't for the lack of transportation options.

Be aware if you took a shuttle from the airport, they don't offer return service so you'll be stuck in another overpriced cab to the airport when you leave.

Scenery

The view is quite stunning and the strong currents of the riptide are rather pleasant to listen to. However the beach is black flag year round and you can't go swimming here. They do offer a pool, but you can find pools wherever you're from -- I want to swim in the sea! There are some really lovely beaches if you drive into the city.

I also found this hotel quite confusing to navigate, it seems built like a casino... intentionally architected to make you get lost. There's also very little signage to help you navigate, which is annoying since this place is huge.

Service

The service staff is nice, but as soon as you need something they're kind of useless. They're constantly checking on you to see if you need anything, then as soon as you ask they're nowhere to be found. The food was good, but they managed to mess up my order 3 times.

They also claim to give you complimentary bottled water, though when I called the front desk to get some (there was none in my room) the guy on the phone gave me a lot of attitude and was extremely challenging. "Didn't you already get water? Were there not two bottles there? Did you check? You should have gotten two bottles. It's complimentary but we already gave it to you." I could've done without the passive aggressiveness, found it really offputting for him to throw such a fit over something so trivial, especially for something free.

Rooms

As an SPG Gold member I got upgraded to one of their rooms with a sea view. The room was great, very clean and had a balcony view ground level with the beach. Everything was quite comfortable, very spacious with lots of room to hang out. The washroom is also really nice with a bathtub and a waterfall shower.

Overall I wouldn't recommend staying here largely due to the location, as a far second due to the annoying service staff. For the amount you'll spend trying to explore Los Cabo you're better off situating yourself in a nice place close to one of the major cities.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin in Los Cabos to celebrate both of our college graduations. We were not told that the main pool would be out of service for the entire stay. (We understand that hotels need to do repairs and it's probably unreasonable to inform every single guest before they arrive as it would cause too many to change their reservations) I can live with the fact that they did not give us a heads-up. BUT... when they told us about the pool being closed, we were never told that there would be CONSTANT jack-hammering. We were there for 7 days and the jack-hammering was going on majority of 6 days. We couldn't relax in our hotel room or by the pool without that noise in the background. We spent good money to stay there and enjoy ourselves didn't even come close to getting what we paid for. We approached the guest services counter several times asking to speak with the manager and every time were told that he was not available and/or would get in touch with us... never happened. On our final day, the manager happened to be behind the desk. He offered us 10.000 starpoints to compensate (equal to one nights stay). We spent 45,000 starpoints and over $1,500 at this hotel. When we got home, those 10,000 starpoints we were promised never reached our account. So, we decided to contact Westin and SPG in order to rectify this situation. After getting the run-around, we were told that we could have used the neighboring resort's pool!!!!! REALLY? No one told us that, or any of the people that we met there on that vacation. That was NOT an option. They've ended up giving us 20,000 starpoints. My husband and I don't want the starpoints, we just won't go to Westin again and are cancelling our SPG membership. So, if you are a guest here and have a real issue or concern, it doesn't matter. They do not take care of you.

The property and the atmosphere are of course lovely, but the service here is what really stands out. Everyone we've come into contact with has been so friendly. Alberto at Arrecifes and Francisco at the front desk are wonderful. This was a most relaxing honeymoon.

We had our annual "Presidents Club" event here (Sales quota achievers). The hotel is stunning from it's layout, everybody loved the pools area; the bid disappointment was the steepness of the beach and the way the waves break makes swimming here a risky undertaking. The group before us suffered an injury that left a participant, who attempted to swim here in the wheelchair. If you are fine with the pool, you'll like the layout and generosity of the property. The adjacent golf course is so expensive that I considered trading my compact car for our flight of 4. I have stayed at many Westin's that were better maintained (construction dust and noise), overall cleaner and more affordable (take the chips and salsa for US$14.00 poolside). I cannot echo concerns about the service - everybody was super nice to us.

Room Tip: Oceanview from most rooms. Can feel the waves crashing against the shore (light vibration) in the ho...

Dear Guest
Thank you for your review about your experience at the Westin Resort & Spa Los Cabos. We appreciate your comments regarding the stunning layout of the Hotel which is created by the famous Mexican Architect Sordo Madaleno. The hotel's architecture is one of the highlights of the destination, a unique resort overlooking the beautiful Sea of Cortez.
Most of the time the water is rather quiet and our guests enjoy swimming to feel the sea breeze. However, the condition of the sea can change any time and the hotel counts with a life guard watching the beach. I do not recall any incident on our beach this year that left guests injured and in a wheel chair, this may happened by an off property activities.
Los Cabos offers a total 12 golf courses which 5 courses are private. You have mentioned the adjacent property which is the famous El Dorado Golf course and a private infrastructure, not available for public. We do offer a Golf Concierge service that has a desk in the Hotel Lobby which we always suggest to contact to avoid any inconveniences for making any golf reservations.
I would like to mention our prices are generally the same in Los Cabos area as part of being a prestige destination, Guacamole with Chips has a cost of 120 pesos, Nachos with Salsa and topping comes with a cost of 170 pesos all dishes have 16% Tax included.
To clarify for any readers there was never a “construction” ongoing but due to our commitment to exceed guests expectations we were undergoing a process of updating & rehabilitation to enhance our infinity pools for a better functionality, both infinity pools situated directly in front of the beach are fully rehabilitated and in operation with the second pool liberated as tomorrow.
Best Regards and stay well
Beat Meier

We visited from San Francisco and had the wine Tasting menu. It was 5 unbelievably amazing courses for a great price with hand selected wines to accompany each course. Delicious Mexican wines with superb service by Carlos Sobreranis and Edgar Salgado . Highly recommend this Dinner , you won't regret it.
