“Lovely El Encanto Inn Has Traditional Hacienda Feel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2009

We stayed in the El Enctanto Inn for just one night upon arriving in San Jose Del Cabo before a trip through the East Cape area of Baja...The hotel is in a good location, just a few blocks off the main square in old San Jose Del Cabo, with many restaurants, bars and art galleries all around.

This property has a very traditional Hacienda feel with a pretty pool and landscaping in the middle, with large rooms and a large bathroom. Our room was very quiet and comfortable, bed was very comfortable and a large king size.

The only weird thing about the room was that the wall to the bathroom did not go all the way to the top! Meaning -- make sure you are traveling with someone you are very comfortable with if you are sharing a room! The shower had wonderful water pressure and room had a mini bar/fridge which was very convenient.

Be sure to check the grounds and visit the little chapel in the back and back patio -- very pretty and secluded. Downotown San Jose Del Cabo is a great taste of colonial Mexico and a gem if you've never visited it before heading to the beaches, and El Encanto Inn is a great choice!

My wife and I first saw this charming inn three years ago, when we dined at a restaurant across the street. We made a mental note to book a stay on a future trip, and we're glad we did.

We were initially concerned by earlier reviews that mentioned double billings, but we had no problem ourselves. We managed all aspects of the booking via very clear and simple e-mails directly with the owner, re-checking and re-verifying our understanding when there was any doubt.

The inn is managed by Blanca (the owner) and her family. Everyone is quite nice, friendly, and professional. Blanca has worked very hard over the years to create a beautiful, relaxing oasis.

The inn is very well located in the town of San Jose del Cabo, right in the center of the Arts District. It is NOT on the beach, so don't book here for a beach vacation. My wife and I have been to Los Cabos several times. We always enjoy the dining and shopping in San Jose, but it can take some effort to go into town from our timeshare in the main hotel zone. So, we decided to book three nights at El Encanto before spending the remaining seven nights at our timeshare.

There are several great restaurants very close to the inn, including La Panga Antigua, Voila, Tequila, Salsita's, Baan Thai, Jazmin, Morgan's, and Morgan's Encore. It's also only three blocks to the main town plaza and other restaurants, including Mi Cocina, El Comal, Tropicana, Damiana, La Dolce, and El Vaquero. Art galleries & shops are all around the area.

When we initially booked our stay, there was a large wedding party already booked into the main building ("El Encanto Suites"), so we were told we'd be staying in the original hotel building across the street. As it turned out, we arrived during the height of the swine flu scare, so most of the other guests (including the wedding party) had cancelled. We had the place almost completely to ourselves, seeing only three other guests the whole time we were there. I'm sure it was quite a financial blow to Blanca and her staff. In fact, everywhere we went during our stay, the local economy was suffering due to concerns over the flu and security. It was a shame, especially since Los Cabos didn't actually have a flu or security problem.

A few more comments about the inn itself...beautiful grounds around a small relaxing pool, a day spa on the property where my wife and I enjoyed massages, a beautiful small historic church on the property which is used for weddings, and nice large rooms.

My wife and I highly recommend El Encanto Inn. Very charming and relaxing. Very well located in the town of San Jose.

Perfect little Inn. Adorable, clean and great service. Relax by the pool, enjoy the little spa, or walk the town from this hotel. The hotel is in 2 different buildings, one across the street from the first building....by across the street I mean 20 steps. I saw the standard rooms and they looked very standard but very clean, with 2 beds and a bathroom. We stayed in the second building in a little suite. VERY cute and roomy. We bought everything we needed and filled our fridge, they have all you need in the room to make your meals, hot or cold. They even had free bottled water in each room. The pool side rooms are very nice, cute, cozy and romantic I thought. The Honeymoon suite looked very original and nice. Each room is well priced. I loved the little outside area by the pool, beats the crowds in the busy resorts which I'm done with. There was a little chapel in this area which sent vibes of romance and history, nothing fancy but very charming. The location is great and you can walk anywhere, for anything, with in blocks. Morgan's is just at the end of the block and is a must eat at while you're there. There is a computer for the internet at the front desk area, easy to use. The front desk will help you with any tour spots you might like to see, or suggest where to eat and so on. There is parking steps away, free too if I recall. At night it was charming with lit candles and flowers. Clean, cozy, relaxing. If you're looking for a frilly resort this is not your place, if you're looking for something charming and relaxing, this is it! I've been to this area over 5 times in the past year, in all types of hotels and resorts. This Inn is real Mexico, this town is memorable.

This is a great hotel for traveling days. We stayed one night, the night we flew in and one night, the night before we flew out. About 15 minutes to the airport. We brought the airport shuttle over and a cab back. The first night we stayed in the least expensive room. Very nice, but across the street from the main hotel and bars. Gated at night but you had to walk across the street to the pool and it was very noisy at night with the bars below. Second night we stayed in a pool suite. Much larger, beautiful, walked right out to the pool. Much better choice! The hotel had great little pool which was very clean and the water was as warm as bath water, yet refreshing. Immaculate grounds! Beautifully landscaped. You could walk to any restaurants and the center of town with lots of shopping. No beach!

we had our wedding at the chapel and it was so beautiful. blanca (the owner) was great with helping us plan everything. the ownly downside was that they don't have a bridal suite and i had to book a $99 room to use for 3 hours. the room was clean and very authentic mexican. i would stay there in the future.

We recently went to this small hotel based on the other reviews on this site. We would have to add all sorts of positive messages about it. It is a charming place with lovely rooms, lots of space, nice furniture and so on. The location is excellent for people who want "Mexico" and not the nasty, westernised coastal resorts. Access to all local facilities is on foot, so it's a good location, peaceful and so on. The staff are friendly although sometimes not about (no help with bags etc) and, as mentioned by some, the billing is quirky. They charged more for our deposit than they should have but the final bill was correct. It's only a small complaint and we would go back at the drop of a hat.

My husband and I had a nice stay at El Encanto. The staff was polite from the moment we walked in. The grounds were lovely and our room (Luna Azul) was spacious and clean. The room included a coffee maker, tv with some english channels, lots and lots of storage space, robes, and a hair dryer (no iron so plan ahead). As others have mentioned, the restroom wall does not reach the ceiling, so you can't have absolute privacy in there. No big deal to a couple who has been married 5 years, but others may find it uncomfortable. The pool was heated and there was ample seating and umbrella coverage. We both had good massages at their small spa.

While I was pleased with the hotel especially considering how economical it is, I was most pleased by its location. It is on a charming and safe street, and you are within walking distance of everything in town. There is free parking across from the hotel if you rent a car, which I highly suggest.

The only thing that I found frustrating was that there wasn't a bar of any sort on site. It would have been nice to be able to order drinks while by the pool instead of having to go upstairs to our room everytime we wanted something. Anyway, a small price to pay for such a bargain in the lovely San Jose del Cabo.
