“We can't wait to go BACK!”
Reviewed 6 March 2009

We were in Los Cabos Feb. 21-28. We loved the hotel! The service here is unbelievable. We have stayed at Four Season's hotels, Ritz-Carlton et. la and this HOTEL was even better at the service than those hotel chains!

I have read many reviews that the food is expensive. WELL, it's typical for a NICE resort, but I thought the food was amazing!! We were there with our 2 kids ages 7 and 5 and they accommodated their picky tastes too!

The breakfast buffet is well worth the money. Every morning they have different freshly squeezed juices. One morning it was Guava, Cactus and Watermelon juice. The next Cantelope, Papaya and Orange. They have made- to- order omelets, as well as the pastries, wow so GOOD!

The pool has very comfortable pool chairs and large beach towels. The service at poolside or at the beach was wonderful as well. The wood fire pizzas were good, they even have whole wheat crust.
I wasn't a big fan of the sushi. I am a picky sushi eater.

The rooms are gorgeous. The beds are super comfortable and the bathroom is large and spacious. My only complaint was, we were at the very end of the resort and our housekeeping service was never complete until 3pm or later.

The pools are large and heated! Hard to believe in 80 degree weather, but it made it so much more comfortable to swim in. At night it was especially great when the temps were down, to swim in the heated pool.

The beach is swimable, but wear your flip flops, the sand is course and hurts your feet.

I had read on some reviews that the beach vendors were annoying. I thought they were very polite. Hey, they want the americans to spend money in Mexico, so they try sales jobs on ANYONE. As long as you know, just tell them "sorry, not interested" and they leave you alone.

We also LOVED the kids vacation station at the hotel. You can stay with your kids and do activities, or check them in while they have fun on their own. This was WONDERFUL! My kids had a great time making fun crafts everyday. Imelda and Myra were so great with our kids!

The town of San Jose del Cabo is small and great. The restaurants there were really good. But honestly, the food at the hotel was our favorite!

We also went whale watching with Cabo Expeditions. This was so great as well. We watched the same 2 whales for 2 hours! So FUN. I would highly recommend this company. Unlike many companies in Cabo, this company respects and has a great knowledge of the whales. They respect the whales space and they do NOT pester them. We watched some boats that really didn't respect the whales, unfortunately.

Los Cabos was wonderful. We can't wait to go back.

This resort is stunning and every square inch of it is immaculately taken care of. The staff, food and hospitality are amazing. The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed. The views almost everywhere you go are breathtaking. Pool can get very busy as the ocean was a bit chilly while we were there. Absolutely amazing!

We loved our stay here. The room was absolutely beautiful, and the ocean view incredible, couldn't ask for anything more. Pool was also wonderful with plenty of lounge chairs and nice, big towels. I also really liked that you don't need a towel card, as many other resorts require, to use the towels.

The only downside to this hotel is that the restaurant was very expensive and the food was not all that good. Also, we ate there in the evening and the waiter brought us a flashlight because it was way too dark to even see a menu. I love a candle-lit dinner, but this was almost no light at all. Terrible. We ordered room service for breakfast and it was fantastic.

The hotel next door had a very loud party on the beach with that annoying techno music that we could clearly hear in our room until very late, although that is not the fault of the Hilton.

Wi-fi was inexpensive, about $7.50 a day, and very reliable.

The Hilton staff were all wonderful and very accommodating. I would stay here again, but would definitely eat elsewhere for dinner and/or lunch.

We really enjoyed our short stay in Hilton in January 2009.
Positive side: excellent service, high quality food, friendliness of staff, beautiful ocean-view room with large bathroom and comfortable bed,
cleanliness, warm infinity pool, small gym with good (Precor) equipment.

Some tips:
if you like to work out in the morning, wake up early ( by 8am every piece of equipment is occupied);
it's true, the best pool-side chairs are reserved by the guests by 8am,
so you have to get up early;
bring a bottle of water to the gym if you don't want to be charged
(all rooms have 2 small complimentary bottles, and "deli-shop" sells bottled water, beer and soft drinks, which are significantly cheaper than you can get from the bar);
the hotel is really in the middle of nowhere, so if you'd like to go to Cabo San Lucas, be prepare to pay the cab fare;
it's very easy to get a cab from the airport (65.00 USD ), just pass all those annoying timeshare people who are trying to get your attention as soon as you leave the customs;
"Madero" restaurant serves very good lunch, and I can't say it's extremely expensive (residents of Toronto are used to this price range ), but dining options are limited;
free breakfast coupons can be redeemed for the continental breakfast only ( juice, muffin, cereal, coffee). For $10.00 you can get the Breakfast buffet which has everything you may desire ( excellent smoked salmon is highly recommended).

We went for our 20th wedding anniversary and it exceeded our expectations. The hotel had a nice bottle of red wine, a cheese platter and happy anniversary greeting and balloons in the room when we arrived. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our five day stay. The Hilton was about a 25 minute drive from the airport (take the new toll road which avoids traffic and lots of lights), less than 10 minutes to the centre of San Jose and 15 to Cabo San Lucas. We really liked being away from the very congested and overbuilt town of Cabo but close enough to drive in for dinner and shopping. Margaritavilla at the marina had a ten-piece mariachi band with horns that was great and the margaritas the best we had anywhere. We really enjoyed the town of San Jose which seemed much more authentic and was very charming. Eating in La Panga's open courtyard under the stars and light-filled trees was a treat -- it served upscale food with a Mexican twist. Tequila was very similar and Las Salitas (sp?) was great for traditional Mexican food. There is a bakery/cafe called the French Riveria which has great desserts and crepes so good you will think its in Paris. All of these restaurants are concentrated in 4-5 blocks around the town square and church -- easy to walk around and shop.

Back to the hotel-- it was very full but we never had a problem finding chaise lounges by the pools (those have a two-inch cushion perfect for napping) or getting drinks or food from the many servers. The sushi bar was surprisingly good. The breakfast buffet was also excellent and the classical guitar player a nice touch. The view from the infinity pool to the rock formations by the shore and out over the Sea of Cortez was mesmerizing-- only interrupted by the frequent whale sightings. The Hilton is one of very few resorts where it is safe to swim in the ocean right at the property. The snorkeling at the resort wasn't bad but go to Santa Maria beach a few miles down the road to Cabo for a very calm horse-shoe shaped cove with more fish and clearer water.

We golfed at the Puerto Los Cabos golf course which opened in 2008 in a very high-end development just north of San Jose. So far 9 holes designed by Nicklaus and 9 by Greg Norman are open. Great golf and the views of the mountains and ocean were spectacular. Twilight rate started at 1:30 and we were able to finish 18 no problem-- the $125 rate with Hilton discount seemed like a bargain especially when you factor in the free drinks and snacks from the beer cart.

We found renting a car to be cheap and the driving and navigating easy. The Hilton has a big free self park lot right next to the building.

Only negative was the loud music until 2am from the neighboring resort's rave party one night-- the only reason we noticed is because it drowned out the sound of the surf that we fell asleep to the other nights.

This hotel is great, but as are most hotels in the area - expensive!!!!

Rooms have oversized bathrooms with shower stall (great!) and tub; there is a window with shutters that divides the bathroom and bedroom, which is a nice touch if you are solo in the guestroom (i.e. can keep the shutters open and have natural sunlight in bathroom). Our rooms overlooked the ocean, I think most do, and the hallways/corridors are open air.

Lobby and check in area is big, with retail stores, gift shop, etc. Lobby lounge is absolutely beautiful overlooking the ocean, very large with tons of room to sit and drink, read, and relax. Best views are from the lobby lounge! Sushi bar is great - really fresh sushi & one item in particular that we ate every day (deep fried sushi!)...and the 3 meal a day restaurant had good breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the drinks and food are very, very expensive.

Pool area is nice, plenty of seating over two separate areas, with excellent ocean views. Sitting on the beach was a bit annoying, as the chairs and umbrellas are not set out - so it was a bit of a process to set up.

The location is good if you want to primarily stay on property and head out for dinner to a nearby hotel / resort. However, if you are looking for nightlife and /or to be in Cabo San Lucas city center with all the bars and restaurants - don't stay here as taxis are $30 each way and we were told public transportation was not the safest.

Only downside to the Hilton itself is that the food and beverage prices were out of this world. I was warned that this was the case and expected it, however since its difficult to go elsewhere in the area, we had almost every meal at the hotel and spent so much money on this - in addition to the exorbitant room rate. The bartenders do not recognize repeat guests and there are absolutely zero buy backs even if you sit at the bar 7 days in a row.

  • Liked — Size of guestrooms, sushi bar, lobby bar.
  • Disliked — Food & beverage pricing is astronomical!

My wife and I decided to take advantage of some business travel Hilton points and booked 6 nights at the Hilton Los Cabos in January 2009 - after the holiday rush and before the Sprng Break times. We have stayed in Los Cabos many times before at the Twin Dolphin Hotel, which alas is closed - and as we discovered is also now bulldozed and pads are prepared for building whatever it is they are going to build.
The Hilton is a wonderful large resort property. When we were there the property was about 50% full, although as we were leaving a large business meeting was taking over most of the property for the next few days.
We were upgraded to a Junior Suite, which is basically an oversize room. We had a nice, but small, balcony with a great view of the beach. Because it didn't overlook either of the two pool areas, it was also a bit quieter.
We also received vouchers for the continental breakfast, which was quite a spread. If we wanted to have some hot food, it was only $7.50 more (good exchange rate when we were there).
We ate lunch by the pool most days and the food selection and quality was quite good, as were the very potent beverages. Service was friendly and efficient and very 5 star. In fact, we have both stayed at many 5 and 6 star resorts that had significantly worse service than this Hilton.
We only ate dinner one night at the hotel, at the more moderate restaurant, Le Meson. The food and atmosphere were fine. The rest of the time we went into San Jose and ate at one of the many wonderful restaurants in that wonderful town.
We did get into Cabo San Lucas one day for a whale watching trip on the Pez Gato (nice boat ride - alas, no whales) and Cabo is crazy with construction, too many tourists and - at least at this stage of our lives - we much preferred San Jose.
Speaking of whales, we did spot some from the hotel. We also had some very friendly brown pelicans!!
Overall, it was a great getaway from the miserable winter in Chicago and we highly recommend the Hilton as one of the best places to stay (of the larger resorts) in the Los Cabos area.

  • Liked — The sun, the sun and more sun!
  • Disliked — Large property, and can be crowded when full.
