This hotel is beautiful, with all of the amenities that you would want. The problem is it is also a timeshare. So everyone was basically given wrist bands and put in to social classes much like they did during the yesteryear of cruise ships. There were certain bars you couldn't patronize in the hotel because of your wrist band, and you couldn't even have a decent normal size drink out of a glass. They served there cheap liquor in plastic cups. The pool was overcrowded with kid after kid and drunk parent after drunk parent. The service was ok, and our coordinator was nice enough. The crappy part was having to listen to a timeshare spiel and them telling you there is no pressure and it will only take an hour when it actually takes closer to 3 hours, with numerous levels of management trying to convince you by showing incomplete math how it is cost efficient for vacations to go there every time. Im sorry, I don't want to go to the same place every time when I leave the country. There is a whole world out there to see.
In summary, I would never go back. Its a beautiful place, but basically has been taken over by American investors looking to capitalize on the area. Its a shame too because there is some fun surf.

The place was nice. The food was terrible. The best thing was the service. We had the BEST person taking care of us. Emir was wonderful to accommodate us with several excursions, taxis, and all of our needs. A very pleasant person!!

We booked our vacation package trip through travelocity and vacationers beware. There were 5 of us in our party and they booked flights for all 5 of us, booked us two rooms with two people in each room and FORGOT to tell me that I would need to pay for my other daughter when I arrived at the hotel. What agency books a vacation package and doesn't book the third person in a room! After talking to travelocity I finally got a supervisor that could understand my dilemma and graciously had travelocity pay for my daughter's room for the entire stay. Way to redeem yourself Travelocity! The Royal Solaris is a well kept hotel with amazing staff. Emir was our personal concierce during our stay and he was AMAZING. He checked on us everyday, helped arrange our excursions, and did everything within his power to make our stay great! The beach is beautiful and well kept. Swimming is not advised at the beach and that was disappointing. This is definitely a hotel for young families as there were alot of younger kids - my adolescents and young adult kids were bored in the evenings and had to leave the resort for entertainment. My only complaint was the food. It was terrible! I don't think we had one meal that wasn't cold or lukewarm - the quality was definitely not up to par.

We are family of 4 with 2 children under age of 5. We had really good time, this place is awesome for people with small kids.
I have to say I red a lot of reviews before we left, and I was expecting a lot of harassment from time share people - to our surprise, NOBODY ever once said anything to us about time share. Upon arrival they misplaced our luggage and front desk person wasn't friendly at all, no smile, no eye contact, he hardly told us how to get to our room. Room was very basic, nothing fancy but good enough for us. Beds are on a hard side and that's the way we like it - this is a first time ever I slept well away from my own bed.
Toddler pool is great for young kids, we have spent a lot of time there and area with slides is a lot of fun, our kids had a blast. Beach is very nice, I enjoyed a sunrise every morning.
Food is nothing special, but not horrible. Breakfast is the best meal of the day, best dinner was the Italian one and Mexican one, all the other once sucked.
We didn't do any tours, we rented a car for a day from the hotel (for 70 bucks) and explored on our own. We went to Chileno beach - awesome place, bring your snorkeling gear and bred to feed the fish and you gonna have a blast. Than we went to marina in Cabo San Lucas and took a boat ride to the Arch.
Two mornings we went for a walk to the bird sanctuary, it's very nice - only 10 minutes walk by Holiday Inn. We also went to the old part of the San Jose - it's very nice.
We as a family had a great time, it's a good place for kids and it's very safe area of Mexico.

Room Tip: we had a city facing room and we liked it, because it was quiet

Recently returned from a family vacation with our 9 year old to Royal Solaris. Overall it was a great experience and RS offers great bang for your buck if you eat most meals on site and understand that the real attraction is the sublime weather, beach, pool, and joy of unlimited food and drink. Folks should keep in mind that you are not paying premium prices so you are not going to get premium alcohol/food. You get what you pay for. Nice grounds but not super nice - very clean with workers constantly moving about cleaning and setting stuff up. Here are some of my other impressions.....

TIMESHARE PITCH - biggest buzzkill of the trip but we got over it quickly. You will get pitched when you check in and asked to fill out unnecessary forms. They will also try to check your luggage immediately to keep you captive and beholden to the "concierge" (code for time share rep). If you are not interested in a high pressure sales pitch be firm and just say no. We were very firm initially, refused to fill out the form, kept our luggage so we could change and hit the pool with our kid after a long and early day of travel (we arrived before check in), and then were left alone the rest of the week. We were not interested in whatever lame incentives were being offered to sit through the "tour."

ROOM - if you are a Costco member book your trip through Costco for a potential room upgrade. (and free transportation from the airport which is very close). The reality is that we hardly spent any time in the room other than to shower and crash so location didn't seem super important.

BEACH - the approximately 3 mile long, wide, crescent shaped beach that the resort sits on is an absolute gem. The surf is a bit rough but when we were there we did a lot of boogie boarding (cheapo bought for $11 short walk up the road at Mega store) and body surfing.

FAMILY FRIENDLY - probably not the place to go if you are not into kids. Lots of kids out and about and enjoying the kid pool/water slide (isolated from main pool - a big hit for kids 10 under I would say) as well as the sometimes raucuous but highly entertaining poolside entertainment at the main pool.

TIERED SYSTEM - there is a tiered system with members (gold wrist bands) getting extra perks like an exclusive breakfast and a private bar with better booze but I never felt like the staff looked down on us as non-members nor did I feel tempted to become a member.

WIFI - wifi is no longer free in the lobby. (lame!) If you want wifi access you have to now pay a fair amount ($15?)for daily use. If you are walking on the beach you may pick up a free wifi signal from a neighboring property.

TIPPING - Tipping not expected but we brought a stack of one dollar bills and tipped generously. The staff was very industrious and appreciated the propinas. (and reciprocated the goodwill).

ALCOHOL - stick with beer and wine or ask for Johnny Walker Red if you like scotch. The mixed drinks were very weak and sugary. Ask for two drinks each time you order because the plastic cups are tiny. (or bring your own large mug).

FOOD - we generally eat healthy and found healthy options at every buffet meal. There was always a selection of fresh fruit and salad. Lucy the omelet queen is the best - so cheerful and makes a mean omelet with tons of fresh fillings at your disposal. Make sure you tip her!

HERD MENTALITY / CHAIRS - Meals have a distinct cattle call feel to them but the best method is to be an early bird for best seats, selection, and to avoid crowds. If you arrive at breakfast before 7:30 you will probably land a coveted outside table for breakfast. Sitting beachside eating a nice breakfast while the sun is rising over the Sea of Cortez can't be beat. Queue up at the lunch palapa soon after it opens at 12:30 for a nice sit down lunch. The snack bar is great in a pinch but the sit down open air lunch is a great experience. Unfortunately the comments about getting up early to save lounge chairs is true. If you don't save chairs by 7am you may end up in an undesirable location. Kind of lame but it is what it is and if you can't beat them join them.

Room Tip: book through Costco Travel

We went for our honeymoon. This was not a resort for couples. More family-appropriate. The bar outside closed at 6 p.m. And we had trouble getting the servers to return to us on the beach with drinks (despite tips). The breakfast was great. Lucy remembered our order from day to day! However, there was never margerine available for toast/came to us when the toast was already cold. The other meals were not good. There was a themed meal every night. French, Mexican, Asian, etc. So, if you were not in the mood for what was being served, you were S.O.L. Not really any "party" atmosphere in the evenings at all (again, more family focused than we would have liked). One day, housekeeping kicked us out of our room so she could clean (did I mention this was our honeymoon...if you know what I mean). This was around 3 in the afternoon. Overall, I don't think I would choose this resort again.

The Royal Solaris is a great, affordable resort. Our family of four had a wonderful time. The entertainment staff made the day fun at the pool, and the evening entertainment was also enjoyable. We loved the all inclusive concept, and will definitely be back.
A special thank you to Zoe, Erik, Frankie, Danny Boy, Poncho, and Antonio.
