“Beautiful hotel!”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

I stayed here for a long weekend. The resort recently became an all inclusive property under the Secrets brand. They have done a marvelous job at the boutique, adults only, all inclusive property. It is not made for the "masses". It is a quiet place for adults to get away and relax at the beautiful infinity pools, spa and fine restaurants without the crowded buffet lines at a typical all inclusive. All suites are ocean view with balconies! The service was very, very good. Sitting by the pool, drinks and lunch are served by the waitstaff. If you want to splurge a little more, try one of the Casitas with a private plunge pool. Really beautiful units! It is very romantic and I saw private dinners on the beach each night for different couples. Looks like a fantastic spot for a honeymoon. If you want the noise and nightlife, Cabo San Lucas is a 10 minute cab ride away.

This was our first trip to Los Cabos. We have been to our fair amount of beaches... Jamaica, Cancun, Dominican, Italy (postanio), and a handful others. I must say that I was very impressed. I went there with my husband, sister and brother in law to celebrate my 50th birthday.
I am going to start with the negative because it will be quite short and not a big issue but may be for others. First the beach is BEAUTIFUL but you cant swim there, there are rocks and the surf is very dangerous. I was not aware of the NO SWIMMING when I went there but again...not a isssue for us because we usually dont get in the water at the beach. Second, a good 20 min drive to get to town and do any shopping or dining. With a resort so nice, you really dont need to go anywhere else!
Now, with that aside....the place was simply amazing. Beautiful property set on a beautiful beach. Being a "all-inclusive" you never know about the food. Usually it is the same buffet everyday with very little changes . Not at Secrets Marquis. The only buffet is breakfast (also can order from the menu). The rest of the dining was off a menu with wonderful selections and as tasty as you would have at any fine restaurant. The French restaurant was out of the world. They go out of the way to make sure you want for nothing. We went in July and it was a slow time for the Resort which meant we never had to wait for anything.
We went to the Fitness area a few times and they have the largest selection of equipment of any fitness room at a "all-inclusive" that I have been to.
My husband had a massage, He did say it was just okay...nothing special.
The pool area is huge and spans the entire length of the resort.
I usually do not repeat a vacation because there is just too much to see in this lifetime, but I will be making a return trip to Los Cabos Secrets Marquis for sure.
Added note: Maricio was the best waiter at the pool area, he made out trip special everyday

Room Tip: Ask for a room on 4th or 5th floor for the best view

My boyfriend & I stayed at Secrets Marquis Los Cabos from 7/18/12 to 7/22/12. This was our first trip to Los Cabos, so we had no idea what to expect. We are so delighted to report that Secrets Marquis Los Cabos was simply amazing. The resort is beautiful, the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, and we would definitely recommend this resort to any potential guests. Our room was cleaned 3 times a day, and the property itself was very clean!!! The Guests Services Staff was friendly, but three representatives stood out. DAVID, VANNIA, AND CARLOS really made our trip special. They went "above and beyond the call of duty" to make sure that we were comfortable and were having a good time throughout our trip. They made our trip memorable, and we are truly appreciative for that. This was our first time booking an all-inclusive trip, and to our surprise, we got our money's worth. The wait staff was friendly, and the food was delicious at all of the on-site restaurants (our favorite waiters were Josimar, Alberto & Antonio). There were scheduled activities throughout the day and night for hotel guests, and we hated to leave the property when we went into town to shop. On your first day of arrival, you need to make sure that you contact the Concierge’ to make dinner reservations at Zoetry and Dreams (Secrets sister properties). The food at Zoetry was excellent, and we were served dinner on the beach by candlelight (very romantic). Our experience at Dreams was nice, but we were not thrilled about eating outdoors at Oceania Restaurant. It was just too hot for that (95 degrees). The food was okay. Dreams was a nice hotel, but we did not like the fact that there were unsupervised children running around the property screaming and playing at 10 o'clock at night. We are so glad that we decided to stay at Secrets Marquis Los Cabos over Dreams. Secrets was an all-adult resort, and we did not see any children throughout our stay. Don't get me wrong, we love kids (we have some ourselves), but while on vacation, we wanted to be able to relax without them, and our wish was granted. Trust me when I tell you that Secrets Marquis Los Cabos is the place to stay, and while in the city, you must make dinner reservations at EDITH'S RESTAURANT (http://www.edithscabo.com/). The ambience, the wait staff, and the food were excellent!!!

Room Tip: Book at Oceanview room. You can see the pools, and the ocean from your room.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 5 days and 4 nights. It was perfect! This was my first time to Cabo and the hotel was just what I was looking for. It was relaxing, beautiful, staff was great, and it was very romantic. We just lounged by the pool all day and enjoyed dinner at the resort each night. We also took advantage of eating at the other resorts that were included in the "all inclusive." We had dinner on the beach at the Zoetry and Italian and Sushi at Dreams. All of them were great and you got to see the different resorts. The rooms could be a little more updated but I guess Secrets just bought the hotel a couple months ago so there will be some renovation. It was a great trip, we will definately be back and I never encountered one single rude or mean person. The whole staff at the resort was amazing! They were so kind and helpful! They really helped make a wonderful trip!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the secrets marquis during the first week of July. We did not know what to expect considering we booked it purely off of online reviews and photos. To our surprise this happened to be one of the best trips we have taken together. Being avid travelers from Europe to the Caribbean, we are happy we decided on this resort. Being in our 20's we were a little hesitant booking an adults only resort fearing that our options would be limited. The secrets marquis definitely took us by surprise. Although most couples seemed to be there for special occasions, (honeymoons, anniversaries) we felt comfortable during our stay. However, This resort is definitely geared towards couples with the rooms being very open (a open wall in the bathroom that opens to the bedroom) so I could see how it wouldn't be fit for a group of friends or newly dating couple for privacy isn't really an option. The location is 10/10 located right on the beach with breathtaking views wherever you may be!

Now to the small (yet very important) details. The resort is absolutely immaculate. From the rooms to the hotel grounds, everything is beautifully decorated and tasteful in appearance. The mexican contemporay ambiance truely makes you engulfed in the culture. You can tell the resort puts a lot of effort into presentation, from the pool side lunches to the room service. One of our favorite services was the hot coffee and fresh fruit left in your room "cubby" first thing in the morning without even asking for it. The turn down service always left us in awe, as they prepare your bed and draw the blinds before bedtime. (not to mention the super comfy robes and slippers they prep for you accompanied by chocolates on the pillow!) The mini fridge was always stocked with corona, sodas, water, seltzer and juices along with snacks to hold you over. By the way, the room service is the best we have ever had. 5 stars all around. Order the linguine with lemon and capers - makes for a good midnight snack! Every room in the resort is ocean view with breathtaking views and sounds of waves crashing throughout the night and early morning. Sometimes it was cool enough at night for us to sleep with the door open. Because all the rooms overlook the casitas, I'm not sure how they are private at all since we had a view to everybody's roof deck. For us, we were glad we stayed with the standard room.

The (3) pools were incredibly clean, although a little too cold for my preference. The hot tub unfortunately was the same temperature as the pool which was a disappointment. There are 2 infinity pools which are absolutely breath taking for every chair has a face front view of the ocean (you cannot swim in the ocean due to the high ripe tides). It didn't hurt that George Clooneys beach house was next to the resort, it was a fun adventure for us to stroll by every morning.

Although there are only 3 restaurants, the options are limitless. We never had the same thing twice. It was the quality comparable to a 5 star NYC restaurant. You also have access to the Dreams hotel and zoetry where you can use Your all inclusive - we went to dreams our last night which was sub par. At secrets, The surf and turf and beef carpaccio were amazing! Liquor is top shelf, ranging from grey goose to Jamison. Although sometimes it seemed inconsistent with what they had in stock. (one day they had champane, the next they were out). More than once at the pool I asked for a mudslide but received a piña colada instead. I'm sure it was just a language barrier, and they eventually got it with time. Patience and a few dollar tips go a long way here! Our favorite waiter was Alfredo and Antonio. They went above and beyond for us! The pool side menu is perfect for either an afternoon snack or a hearty meal ranging from guacamole (the best you will ever have!!!) to steak sandwiches. It was a great feature that you are able to eat poolside as opposed to sitting down at a restaurant during sunbathing time. There is a hidden gem called CoCo cafe under the lobby which we referred to as our "Mexico Starbucks" with iced coffees, lattes, and fresh pastries.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Locals here say it only rains about 5 days a year. Whale season is Jan-April. The resort offers endless options if you want to do any activities such as swimming with the dolphins, zip linning, sunset cruises etc. They play an outdoor movie on a projecyor every night and sometimes have live bands, singers, poker night, etc. There is a charge for wifi ($75 for the week). The spa is beautiful and the gym is very clean if you decide to use it.

All in all we were looking for the ultimate R&R vacation. The secrets marquis exceeded our expectations. We met great groups of people on this trip whom we hope to see here again in the future for a reunion! ;)

This was our second trip to Cabo San Lucas and our second stay with Marquis. The first time we stayed here it was simply amazing. From the views,to the rooms and most importantly the service. Everyone was so kind and warm. Sounds cliche, I know, but we really felt at home! This year we returned to Cabo and didn't even bother looking for any other deals or hotels. The Marquis is now Secrets Marquis and is an adults only all inclusive resort. It has the same great service, delicious food at the restaurants and the incredibly kind and wonderful staff. We plan on returning to Cabo next year and we will stay at the Secrets Marquis. It is/was kind of a well kept secret but they are building quite a reputation.
I would like to personally thank Carlos and Jesus Noe at the Concierge desk and Daniel and Fabian at Vista Ballenas restaurant. Also, a thanks to the awesome events group; David, Diego and Valentin for keeping things fun and lively. The karaoke event was great!

My partner and I stayed at Secrets Marquis Los Cabos for a birthday and anniversary celebration from June 22 - 29 in an ocean front room for four nights and an ocean front casita for three nights. We've travelled widely throughout Mexico, and enjoy luxury properties ( both all inclusive and a la carte). Secrets Marquis was fantastic! And our stay was made all the more incredible due to the fabulous and amazing chief concierge Vania Castro. Vania you are a diamond! If you're thinking about going you, you should just go. This place is phenomenal in all respects.

Location
Absolutely breathtaking between rounded desert mountains and the sea. Far from the hawkers and beach clubs of Medano and Cabo, the beach is wild and beautiful here - pounding surf and nary a banana boat or jet ski in sight. Saw marlins playing in the surf, vultures, hawks, beautiful outcroppings of rocks. The beach is deep and amazing to walk along but the undertow makes it dangerous to swim in but you can take a dip in a rock sheltered cove by the Hilton and the walk is there is beautiful. On the other side of the hotel there are celebrity homes on the El Dorado golf course including G Clooney's which is apparently the one closest to the hotel but he wasn't in so we made our own fun.

Service
Service was excellent. We had emailed the hotel prior to our arrival and everything we had requested was provided. The resident manager Ignacio Mendoza met us when we arrived and was wonderful throughout our trip. The chief concierge Vania Castro was awesome; she is a star! She organized all of our events and always added a little something to make them even more special. There were anniversary banners on the doors of both rooms, fruit and cava waiting when we got to the room, congratulatory messages in the daily newsletter. For our casita she placed us in the most beautiful one, her favourite. We took dinner trips to the other amresorts, Dreams and Zoetry, and she made sure that at both the staff knew it was a birthday and anniversary celebration and at both we were surprised that they knew our names; at Dreams dessert was customized, at the Zoetry our dinner on the beach ended with a birthday dessert and song from the staff under the stars, sand beneath our feet and the surf.

Rooms
Rooms were beautiful. We were on the top floor oceanfront for the first four nights and it was great. Good bed, lots of space, great view and in earshot of the pounding surf. Huge tub, separate shower room, toilet room and great stone vanity and mirror. No Bulgari bath amenities though, they were Secrets own brand but still pretty good. Generous sized and smelled like Aveda rosemary mint. Also included a bottle of SPF 15 sunscreen. Replenished everyday and at turndown if required. Towels were good in terms of quantity, ok quality wise.
The Casitas are worth the upgrade. We were in oceanfront casita 802 which is closest to the beach on the second floor with terrace and plunge pool on the roof- stunning stunning stunning. The casita was huge +1500 sf with bedroom and lounge area and mega bathroom on one side and the dining living area with a sort of kitchenette which had a microwave and full size fridge on the other. Minibar had decent booze including half bottles! Of chivas, tequila, and rum, plus the small bottles of vodka etc. that you get in the regular rooms. The clinchers for us: the walls of windows in the bedroom and living rooms facing the ocean which open completely and slide into the side walls so that the casita is completely open to the beach!, two linked balconies on the bedroom living room level, and the huge roof top terrace which you access from a turret circular stair from the balconies. Absolutely amazing. The roof terrace has two lounges and an umbrella, built in sofa seating, lighting, and the heated plunge pool. All overlooking the surf. And because of the beachfront location 802 looks and feels the most private - it felt like your own house on the beach.

Pools
The pools were perfect for the size of the hotel: two serpentine infinity pools parallel to the beach and a half moon shaped pool underneath the infinity pool waterfall off the lobby. All were heated though the integrated jetted pools in the serpentines were not hot which was odd. Pool lounges were always available, wood framed with soft cushions. Pool Drink service was fine with top shelf available at all bars if you asked. Try the pinoshka (?) which is a great drink made with grilled pineapple, pineapple juice and vodka I think. Really good and unique.

Restaurants
Canto del mar really good. Good food, good presentation. Especially good was the crab roll app which came with a generous dollop of black caviar and the duck which was perfectly cooked. This is the formal French restaurant and the service was friendly and professional. The Chef is a designated French Master Chef. Very intimate as there are only 20 seats.

Vista Ballenas was the everyday restaurant as they served breakfast there and we ate lunch there as well as meals by the pool and on the casita terrace. Great local fusion Mexican as well as standards from the grill. Smoked marlin tostadas, mixed ceviche in various styles, seared tuna salad with Asian flavours, the fresh raw-ish menu items excelled. Typical grill stuff- chicken, steak- was good enough. Breakfast was good with buffet and a a la carte items available. I loved the divorciados eggs and the red and green chilaquiles, partner enjoyed the american breakfast once they got rid of the refried beans underneath the eggs. Overall the food and service was great for us, and coupled with room service where they let us order from the restaurant, and dinner diversions to Dreams and Zoetry, there was enough variation for a week of decent eating. We didnt try Dos Mares as partner does not like seafood mains. Beach grill was good with light fare like ceviche and tacos as well as the more norteamericana club sandwich and burgers.

Take advantage of the fact that you can go to Dreams and Zoetry. Both are unique. Dreams has a more bustling vibe, Zoetry is more serene. Zoetry's beach restaurant is the one to go to. It is right on the beach literally and there is a firepit, torches and lanterns, and the atmosphere is pretty magical at night.

We also had a special anniversary dinner on the roof of our casita on one night. Vania organized it and it was stunning. Tea lights in bags, candles floating in the pool, and torches lit the terrace and the atmosphere was magical. We had our own waiter , Juan, who was fantastic and fun. Dinner was from the menu at Vista Ballenas and everything was amazing. The service was fantastic as someone had to bring the wine and food from the restaurant to Juan who then brought it up three flights of stairs to the Casita Roof - and the food was still delicious and hot and the wine and drinks chilled! The kitchen made a special dessert which had a white chocolate coral reef sculpture and cake that was amazing. I'll say it again, Vania the concierge, was incredible! If you have a chance to do the casita dinner or dinner on the beach you should do it - it will be totally worth it.

Entertainment.
We're not big on group activities unless they're sort of spontaneous. We found the night life fine. We hung out with other couples we met and had a laugh doing karaoke or hanging out by the bar. The hotel has organized events like bar hopping, tequila tasting, cooking classes, dance classes, etc and they play movies at the bar at night. There is no club ( they are building one which is to be finished soon as well as the Asian restaurant) but the bar was good and we found most people friendly and fun.

All in all a great place for a special occasion and a great memorable vacation.
