“Nice Quiet Vacation”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

Wonderful place for a quiet relaxing vacation, honeymoon or romantic getaway. Lovely pool, good food and scenic environment. Could improve the manner in which dinner reservations are handled. The French rest. has lovely setting but no seatings for guests of 6 or more and is very small.

First of all, unless you are happy getting about 10% off, forget the "Resort Credit." The FIRST thing you encounter after getting the keys to your room is having to sit with a sales associate for attending a 90 minute sales pitch for a "semi-time share" (though they say it isn't a time share, it's similar, so beware). It is also at this talk that you get the coupons for the "resort credit" and learn they are ONLY for a credit for specific things. He

The only credit we ended up being interested in was for a bottle of good wine (the only other options were from a single winery in Chile). Margarita told us the wine credit was for $40, but when we tried to use it, we ONLY GOT $10 OFF A BOTTLE.

Also, while some of the staff were very friendly, some obviously did not want to be there. At breakfast, I ordered soft poached eggs and whole wheat toast & both of us coffee. The waiter NEVER came back with the coffee & just disappeared. When I saw him next, I asked him about my eggs & he snapped back that they were coming. When I finally got them, they were cold and hard, plus I didn't get toast, but he went to the buffet (after I received the eggs) and made white toast. Apparently they had run out of whole wheat (on a Thursday).

Later that day at lunch, they also had run out of some of the condiments for the carpacio - no capers. We asked (our very nice waitress) and she said that was the problem with an "all inclusive" resort --- they frequently run out of things.

Our next problem was being greeted by a mass of beetles in our room (4th floor) on the last morning.

We will not be going back.

Room Tip: Corner rooms may be open to more insects. Additionally, even with the AC on the entire time, your cl...

My husband and I won a trip to Secrets, and while it was nice, I am glad it wasn't something we paid for. The food was really disappointing (all-inclusive) and while the staff was extremely friendly we both agreed it was so-so. Rooms were clean & spacious, gym/spa were nice but it didn't wow me. Given what we paid ($0) it was a nice break from our daily routine.

Secrets Marquis for our first visit was just finishing renovation and all the restaurants were not open in 2012. We still enjoyed our stay enough to make a second trip in May 2014......It was worth it. The new restaurants added the variety needed at dinner. Marquis does not have the big entertainment you will find at other resorts but if you're looking for somewhere you can relax and enjoy an intimate setting with your spouse then this is the place from you. the Poolside service throughout the day is great especially overlooking the infinity edge pools lining the property.

While in Cabo I encourage you to take the bus $2 per person or a Cab about $35 dollars into Cabo and take a boat ride out to see the Arch, Lovers, beach and the Sea lion colony. Sunsets is Cabo will make you forget about the real world.

I have nothing but compliments for the staff from the Concierge desk, wait staff at the restaurants and by the pool, the entertainment staff, and the bartenders. We continue to visit different secrets resorts because of the level of service.

We had some amazing sushi prepared by head chef Jonathan right in front of us at the sushi bar one night, topped with Fresh flame cooked lobster. The barefoot grill down by the pools is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner with the Cabo sunset and fantastic seafood.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the Ocean so You can't go wrong with room selection.

My wife an I just returned from a 5 day stay at Secrets Marquis. We usually go to Hawaii and wanted to try something new, cheaper, and closer to home.

Overall, the staff was great, especially Armando at the pool.
The room was nice, great view.
Food was very good as well, didn't find any of the food bland as other reviews had mentioned.

Check in was quick. We were upgraded to an ocean front room from an ocean view. I think they are the same thing except ocean front rooms are more centrally located on the property. There is a quick sales pitch after checking in, we politely declined and not another word was mentioned about it. The bellman who took our bags to the room gave us a rundown of the hotel layout and showed us features of our room. The room was very nice, clean, great view and a bunch of storage space for clothes. The bathroom (toilet area) is not too private, but we knew this before we booked and it wasn't a problem. We were on the 4th floor and the views were spectacular. We paid for the wifi and it worked fine our entire stay. We stayed at the pool almost everyday to relax and had great service. Armando was our favorite. He kept the drinks flowing with a new one coming before the first was finished. We ate lunch at the pool everyday and weren't disappointed. For breakfast we went to the buffet each morning. Some reviews complained about it but my wife an I both agreed it was as good as the buffet at a 5 star hotel we stayed at in Hawaii for our honeymoon. We never had to wait for a table at dinner but we went early, around 7pm or so. Canto Del Mar and Spice were very good. The service didn't seem to be professional waiters but they tried very hard and were over the top nice. We had room service for dinner one night and it was delivered to our room in 20 minutes. I recommend taking the short walk down to the cove by the Hilton to swim in the ocean. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean and have an ocean view.

Secrets Marquis is the most hospitable, accommodating all inclusive resort that we've ever been. Not only are the hotel facilities convenient, comfortable and beautiful, its staff members is what truly sets this resort above other properties. The entire staff (hotel lobby, restaurants, pool side servers & entertainment team) were the most professional, friendly, helpful and personable and harworking service team. The creative entertainment team led by Miguel Valdez made our stay the most fun, interesting and special. From the entertainment team, the most memorable members for us were Miguel Valdez and Ferr. From the poolside servers, the most helpful for us were Armando, Javier and Victor. From our restaurant experiences, all the staff from the breakfast buffet were the best, and Francisco from Vista Ballenas was also very accommodating & helpful.

To us, food at Barefoot Grill, Vista Ballenas & breakfast buffet were all very good & delicious. Spice was also better than your typical teppanyaki grills in America. The sashimi were also quite good. The sushi rolls at Spice were just filled with cream cheese, which we requested our rolls to be made without.

The French restaurant seemed overrated with just okay food and service. Perhaps our expectations were too high for this restaurant, so we were a bit disappointed with both the food quality & service.

Like many other tripadvisor comments, we too had paid for the internet fee, however signals were quite weak and many times we were unable to get solid connection. For a resort of this quality, it's important for their guests (mostly international) to be able to stay connected conveniently (especially if they are paying a substantial additional fee for this service)... it's quite inconvenient if internet connection is not reliable as Secrets business center is also not open 24/7 and open with limited hours.

Overall our entire stay was fantastic. Thank you Secrets Marquis for making our Cabo vacation the most special and memorable! We will definitely return again!

Room Tip: Get central rooms on the 5th floor so you'll have the perfect view and it is the farthest away f...
