We stumbled upon this place heading back to our car from dinner following the Art Walk on a Thursday night. We were drawn in by the great band that was playing, and we stayed for a few hours. Great laid-back environment, like I said- amazing live music, and nice cool drinks. The ambiance is just perfect.

Great place to enjoy wine and tapas. Thursday nights they have live music that is wonderful. The open air courtyard makes even the warmest nights comfortable . Aged stones on the walls, heavy wood tables and casual chic environment make this place "hip and cool". The tapas are really tasty and eye-appealing. Pull up a chair and ENJOY!!

I was immediately attracted to La Osteria by the beautiful aged stone facade in the historic district of San Jose del Cabo. Not knowing what to expect, I was delighted to continue to be charmed by the ambiance and the warm greeting by owner/host Fernando Hernandez. It became obvious to me that this was going to be a special experience, and it certainly was.

You can choose from an array of delicious tapas to start with, ordering them individually or ask for a mixed plato of 14 pieces, for 200 pesos. I loved the little chiles rellenos with shrimp and goat cheese on arugula. They also offer 3 different fresh salads, an array of cheeses served with Serrano ham, Spanish Chorizo, or a variety of other Charcuterie. It was unusual to also see naan on the menu. There were many selections for vegetarians, and suffice it to say there's something for everybody. And save room for dessert!

Fernando has created a very comfortable bistro atmosphere where you can just meet friends for a drink at the bar and snack on something, and either stay for dinner, or cross the street and go to Salsitas....another fabulous place owned by the same folks....(who also own one of my long time favorites, Tequila). I actually ended up doing just that, and returned to La Osteria later for an after dinner cocktail...and had a great time people watching the late night crowd that enjoys gathering there. A really fun place with loads of character.....and characters! Can't wait to go back.
*Note: In spite of feeling very cozy and intimate, know this is an open air restaurant with heaters when necessary. Cash, no credit cards, but everything is very reasonably priced.

In a little open air courtyard? it was cool that evening so they had fired up some propane heaters. Had a skirt steak, which was tasty. The table we sat at was more like a picnic table, and was in need of some cleaning. They had covered their tables when we were there another time. In all cases the food was pretty darn good, and reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere, but could work on their cleanliness. but when you've got a tree growing thru your cinder block wall, you need to expect the unusual.
