My husband and I were there from January 3rd- January 9th. I read about this resort before we went so I was expecting there to be some hiccups. And there were. BUT, if you have read the reviews on TripAdvisor, you'll realize the resort just opened, they are working out the quirks and that is more than reflected in the price. We ended up paying about $350/night for both of us. There is NO WAY that will be the price in the future given the resort, service, location, etc. If you are super picky, I would not visit this resort now- give them a few months to get fully up and running. But if you are like us (there to relax, fine having a drink while we wait for a table for dinner, can keep ourselves occupied and do not need the staff to entertain us), than this is the place for you.

Pros:
- Resort is beautiful, new and very well decorated
- We found the food to be very good. Fresh fruits, vegetables and fish were great. Portofino restaurant was our favorite.
- All the restaurants were not open every night, but if you know that ahead of time, you can coordinate where you eat. We were there 5 nights and tried each restaurant.
- The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. They need some time to polish up their serving skills (we were rarely asked how our meal was once it was served, slow clearing plates, etc), but they will get there.
- Rooms are beautiful, spacious and the mini-bar is a nice touch.
- We loved the beach. It's quiet and there are no vendors on the beach. My husband and I started every day with an hour long walk on the beach and could count the people we saw each morning on one hand.
- It is far from Cabo San Lucas ($55 cab ride/45 minutes). We find this to be a pro because we wanted to relax, it to be quiet and were not looking to go shopping or an activity there. But if you are looking to visit Cabo San Lucas, be aware of that before you go.

Cons:
- It's a new resort and they need to find their groove. Things like the managers in the restaurants need to stop walking around watching the staff work and help serve and clear. They'll get there, but there are service issues in the restaurants still. We found this to be the case really only at dinner.
- They do try to sell you on upgrades and listening to their pitch for the Secrets/Dreams resorts. We chose not to listen to their sales pitch, but there was a significant discount for the spa if you did.
- The spa prices were ridiculous. I think an 80 minutes massage was like $250. I realize they likely need the prices to be high in order to incentivize people to listen to their sales pitch, but I thought they were super expensive.

I would absolutely stay again. We have no regrets about this trip at all.

We arrived at Secrets PLC on Dec 31st, 2013 and Departed on Jan 6th, 2014. Overall our stay was very enjoyable. We had a Preferred Club Ocean View Suite. Our room number was 8303 - it was a good room.

The food was good, consistent if at times unremarkable. The fish always seemed to be great, with other dishes occasionally hitting and occasionally missing. A couple of our favorite items included the filet of grouper served in a garlic sauce at oceana and the chicken fingers from the poolside grill. We also enjoyed the breakfast dish at oceana (started with an M) that was a version of Huevos Rancheros.

Drinking at the resort was always good. The Merlot they serve is significantly better than the cab of the same brand (didn't try the whites). The best margarita could be found at the Preferred club bar made by Isaac. It was a notch above any of the other (still good) margaritas served throughout the rest of the resort, and as such we made a point to swing by the preferred club to pick up a drink whenever we were able to.

The beach is very nice. Always plenty of chairs available and the little beach shades that they've set up are nice and effective. Talking with the beach servers/bartenders they apparently plan to build a permanent bar on the beach at some point in the future - as of our visit they were serving from a temporary setup that wasn't awesome but worked fine for our needs.

The pools - there are two pool areas, one smaller pool closer to the beach and a larger 'main' pool. The 'main' pool was a bit more active with louder music and generally larger crowds. We spent most of our time by the pool next to the other one. We never had any trouble securing a place to our satisfaction to relax for the day.
My main complaint with the resort centers on the pools however. The design of all of the pools at the resort, and of some of the fountains/water features is for them to have an infinity edge. None of the pools, and only a couple of the fountains were ever functioning properly. I mentioned the issue to management on three different times throughout our visit (once to the preferred club people, once to a manager from the main office and once to the oceana manager). All acted concerned but no action was ever taken to correct the issue. The whole ambiance of the resort sufferred as a result. No gentle sounds of water splashing and the sight lines from all of the pools were ruined. I was highly dissapointed by the problem, and the inability of management to resolve it. **I wouldn't return to this resort unless I was certain that they had the many pools and fountains throughout the property working properly.**

Our room, was nice - if not particularly luxurious. The bedding didn't include a down comforter (obviously not needed with the climate, but a nice touch regardless). The pillows weren't down either. There is an iHome radio in the room that has the new iphone connector on it. And they have several USB outlets throughout the room for your digital charging needs. The wifi is reliable and fast, though we weren't able to connect from the beach seating area. The tub in the bathroom is huge and nice - the jacuzzi on the patio was also a great touch (though my wife found it a bit too public to really enjoy... and we were facing the beach and away from most of the resort). We would book the same room type over again, i'm not sure what the situation is with the 4th floor, could be all suites, but thats the only improvement i could have made to our room selection (we were building 8 on the third floor). They did surprise us one evening with rose petals and a sign on the door celebrating our anniversary.. that was fun.

Transportation - we booked our transfers from the link on the secrets website ($192) for a fancy SUV too and from the airport. Its not a long drive from the airport.. maybe 25 minutes or less.

Room Tip: We would select the preferred club ocean view suite again.

Well, we arrived on 22nd Dec 2013, one week after opening. The hotel is beautiful and the pool areas are amazing. Yes, some areas were not totally finished but then the rates did reflect this. ( reduced rates for the first few months).
On arrival we were taken to one side and given a sales talk on how we could visit another resort for breakfast and then we could get cheaper golf, we did not like this approach and the staff tried hard to get us to go. Be warned.
The staff were so helpful and just wanted to please you, they were always there to offer drinks/food/towels/anything. The housekeeping were not always good at replenishing the toiletries but if you ask this is soon rectified. Some of the waiters were more experienced and we particularly found Israel and Cruz in the restaurants were great. By the pool Jacob was wonderful.
Rooms; Very good and spacious. We were in Block 2 on the 2nd floor and the only view we had was of the block of rooms in front of us so we asked to be moved and were then on floor 3, much better. The wind did whistle under the door but this was remedied by rolling a towel up and placing it at the bottom of the door.
Golf; Whilst this is a golf and Spa resort, you need to get a taxi to the golf course. Golf is on average $250 a round, not cheap. They do offer a 15% discount for guests of the hotel but when we went to play, the prices went up that day (?) so this kind of swallowed the discount.
Pools; Wonderful. They are all beautiful and it was very relaxing. The staff were always there to get you cocktails/food/anything.
Entertainment; 8 dancers performed on different nights but basically it was the same dances but in different outfits. Not a lot of other entertainment in the evenings.
Overall a lovely relaxing holiday, small hic cups but , hey, only open one week so to be expected.

Room Tip: Try and get the highest floor possible for the best views

First off I would like to say thank you to the hotel. We were celebrating our anniversary and was given a complementary upgrade to a room that far exceeded what we paid for. As far as first impressions go, the resort nailed that one for sure. Service is always friendly, although you may or may not get what you asked for. I think it is fair to say that this hotel could use a few more staff. So as not to have a long review that no one likes to read I will give a quick list of pros and cons.
Pros: Rooms are breathtaking and resort is gorgeous. The food is good to excellent flavour wise. The front desk and staff are ridiculously nice and the golf course and it's amenities are fantastic. The pools are warm and beautiful, with beach umbrellas for the sun and comfy deck chairs. No one has to fight for a towel, as most of the time there is already one on your seat. Wifi by the pool is also fairly reliable so you can keep up with home. Drinks are great and the little grill by the pool makes it easy to grab a good lunch. Phone calls from your room to Canada and USA are free and the room service food is amazing. I also want to stress that staff are very nice! The spa is incredible.

Cons: (and they are big) Don't come here for the beach. There are a few chairs and no bathroom yet. The Ocean is NOT SAFE as the undertow is really bad. The sand is not soft and has construction debris. You will be disappointed, but the bar on the beach may help. The restaurants are not always open and it's usually the one you want to go to that isn't. They should have all of them open, as there is not always buffet. We were told a 1 hour wait to get into the seafood restaurant that ended up closed the next night. Very disappointing, and they are not even at capacity. The buffet breakfast is good and so is the lunch, but you are very likely to get lukewarm food. They haven't mastered keeping food warm yet. Entertainment is also lacking. There are also only two gift shops and they are missing a lot of things that they should be selling, such as alcohol keepsakes since the nearest town is a $15.00 cab ride away. As for the rooms, Wifi and housekeeping I found to be touch and go. Just because your housekeeping light is on, your room may still not get done. Also be sure to hide your tip for the maid in the bedsheets or hand it to her directly as we noticed that the fridge stocking guy likes to help himself before the maid gets there, even if it is clearly marked for housekeeping. MOSQUITOS and large crickets have a tendency to make it into your room if you are on the main floor so bring repellent and a good set of shoes to take out the massive crickets.
Overall I would say that they should have waited a little longer before they opened and need more staff. I would rate it 4.5 stars for beauty but a 3 for functionality. It has potential to be great, they just need to iron out some kinks and I prepared for that when I bought this trip. In a couple years I would probably come back.

My husband and I were one of the first guests from Canada to experience this Secrets new property and were VERY impressed especially for a new opening during the Christmas holidays. The resort grounds as well as the room views are spectacular. IGNORE any concerns you have read as we were there for 15 days and loved every moment.

All the staff deserves and big thank you for all their obvious hard work. We want to give a few individual mentions of staff and managment that really stood out for their excellence and courtesies. Salvador, one of the resort managers was very personable as well as Karla the front desk supervisor. Thanks to Angel Perucho, the waiter in the Oceana and Pavlo in the Puertofino plus Cruz in the market Cafe at breakfast and Hugo, who always greeted us with a smile and great service and Elias from the Coco Cafe. We can't say enough great comments about Dave and his entertainment staff Daniella, Martin and Jesus...love you.

The Spa as well as the salon is incredibly the best I have ever had treatments in ...thank you to the friendly staff there as well. Our room was decorated beautifully and included every amenity you could possibly want including a very comfortable bed and pillows, 2 full length mirrors and even sunscreen.

We plan to return again really soon to experience and see how this properity has developed...VERY IMPRESSED.

I am very surprised that this hotel is getting great reviews. Having returned from a week there, I will say that the building, location and views were awesome but it was overshadowed by really bad service, bad food, and just so much disorganization. Many people working there but most not knowing what to do. In a year or so when they get it together, this place should be great, but until then, beware.
