“Lovely property with some much potential...”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

We booked this resort when it was still Barcelo and we did so because we heard great things. First off, this place is beautiful but Hyatt needs to make some minor changes to make it great. We upgraded to premium and check in took forever and the rooms were all screwed up. Too many problems to mention on here but we did make Claudia aware of all the issues. We were there over new years, therefore, it was crowded which Hyatt was not prepared for at all. You can definitely tell that Hyatt came in and let many employees go. Waiters work their butts off to bust tables, serve food and refill drinks. When our flight was cancelled and we were "stranded" for another 4 days at the resort it was like an entirely new experience. The place was practically empty during those days. The meals were a completely different experience and the service was incredibly better. Overall, the staff is great. Tony boy and the other guy at the pool work their tails off and do a great job trying to get everyone involved. Claybert and Hector are great waiters, ask for them in the Seafood and steak restaurant. Hopefully Ziva will start making drinks by the pool with real fruit, just a suggestion. If you want a fun excursion, book the ATV's from the guy at the National Car rental desk near the MEGA. Great deal for 4-5 hours of fun. Speaking of a great deal, buy something from the little man that paints his own pottery by the pool and works from 7am till 11pm. All in all, the place is beautiful, just hope when you are going that it is not over 40% occupied. No, that's not a typo..40%

Room Tip: Building 3 on top floor has a great view...Really can't go wrong with any room...just hope that...

Lovely property and very accommodating for our requirements. We are vegetarians and each of the specialty as well as the buffet restaurants went out of their way for us to have options. We had to change rooms as there was some noise in the lower floors and were moved to a higher floor. My only gripe is not really with the Hotel. I booked the hotel with Expedia with the assurance that I would still get Hyatt GP points but am told by Hyatt GP that the rate is not eligible for any points except the incidentals. After spending $2500, I just feel that awarding points for the stay is something Hyatt GP could have done..

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise

It is a beautiful property. My fiance and myself really enjoyed our stay in Jan. 2013. We took local bus to a nearby town for a couple of pesos. Food was good, rooms are really nice. We liked the adult pool, although it was really cold in January. Other than that nothing to complain about.

Booked a last minute trip to this resort with Air Canada vacations and everything was top notch. Nice quiet area for relaxing with out all the crowds like other areas of Mexico. We went the 3rd week of Jan 2014. The grounds are beautiful and very clean as was our room. We had no problems with house keeping or keeping our mini bar stocked. The staff at this resort is friendly and so very helpful. The food was outstanding no matter where we ate and I think we made it to almost all the spots. The macaroons in the French restaurant where so good. The buffet in the morning was awesome with a wide variety of choices and soo much fresh fruit a real treat when you get very bland fruit in Canada in the winter time. 24 hr lobby lounge was always a great place to stop for a night cap and light snack before bed. The grounds at night are so beautiful and the fire pits with the loungers are great to sit and have a special coffee at. The ocean was not swim able while we where there but still enjoyed walking on the beach. It is fantastic that you can see whales breaching right from shore. Went in to San Juan Del Cabo on the bus $1.00 it stops right outside the hotel, spent 1 day just walking and shopping in this small quaint town. We had a great time with the staff and have a few we would like to mention, Isidor, Zenon, Gabriel, Carlos, Daniel, Edgar, Felix , Lia, Fernando, Maria, Iran and all the chefs and cleaners and grounds keepers. Make sure you have the shrimp tacos at the pool snack bar. Had a fantastic time and will absolutely return to this resort.

The facility switched from Barcello last year to Hyatt this fall. Paid for the premium service, got much less than a year ago. For example:

Paid for: The best room view in the Club Premium area. We were offered standard room in the main building furthest from the beach view. We made a point of asking for and receiving a room in the “three” building. The room was not ready and we waited for another hour plus for the room to be ready. We finally got into our room more than 2 hours after arrival, not a great way to spend New Year’s eve.

Paid for: Petite fours and domestic bottle of champagne in the room on arrival. Neither were in the room, and took three days and conversations with the concierge to get them.

Paid for: Pool towels in the room. Pool towels were only available at the pool.

Paid for: Premium amenities in the room. Room contained normal Hyatt hotel amenities.

Paid for: Priority to reserve in a la carte restaurants. This was not available as none of the restaurants now take reservations, now strictly first come first serve.

Consistent with our previous stay, the staff, especially the concierge and bellmen are friendly and helpful, the room was very clean, well furnished and had a great view of the beach and the main pool. The adult pool is quiet (away from the loud music and "games" in the main pool), nicely heated and gets a full day of sun. The French and Italian restaurants are first rate, the service in all of the restaurants and bars was excellent.

I think this is the largest facility in Los Cabos but we never felt that it was crowded.

Room Tip: Rooms in building three have a great view of the beach and main pool.

Our week at Hyatt Ziva went beyond all expectations. We kept pinching ourselves and thinking someone was going to tell us we were in the wrong place and to leave LOL. The resort grounds and pools are beautiful, there are so many dining options and as everyone else has stated, all of the staff go above and beyond.

Our favorite restaurants (other than the buffet) were Spanish, French, Italian, and CocoLoco for shrimp tacos and chips and salsa by the pool. Tell Juan you'd like to try the fresh daily horchetta and he might even put some brandy in it for you.

Enjoy a drink at the outdoor martini bar before (or after) dinner.

The hotel was not at capacity and we were told a large convention which reserved 400 of the 600 rooms was going to arrive later in the month, so I expect that the experience would be very different when large groups of people congregate. We never had to wait for a table at any of the restaurants, and there were plenty of lounge chairs available around all of the pools.

Close enough to walk into San Jose del Cabo along with that great stretch of never-ending beach.

We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: I would recommend 7th floor for great views.
