Reviewed 19 March 2009

We reviewed our wedding vows March 2009 at Cabo Azul Resort and Spa in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, and have nothing but great things to say about our experience. It was beautiful, and Vanessa Basurto, our coordinator, was absolutely professional, pleasant, and exceeded our expectations. The flowers were beautiful and exactly what we asked for, and the cake by Chef Hatton was perfect. The restaurant, Jauvier's, where we had the reception dinner did an absolutely perfect job, and the settings and resort were beautiful.

My husband and stayed at Cabo Azul for 6 days/5 nights the first week in March. This hotel is even more beautiful and breathtaking than in the photos online. The design of the hotel and attention to detail of the hotel grounds and rooms is amazing. The rooms are huge (we were upgraded to a two-bedroom), clean, elegant, and romantic. Lots of amenities. We spent most of our time by the three-tiered pool which are at three different temperatures. Even the lounge chairs are amazing. Service by the pool was great - very attentive and friendly staff. I know other think the food/drinks are a little expensive, but it's Cabo, not Mazatlan or Cancun. The prices are a little more like California, but the exchange rate when we went was great so it was very reasonable. The Spa is AMAZING. I would say prices are comparable to spas in the US, but if the exchange rate is good, it's a good deal. The concierage was great. Anything you needed they would get you. They even keep menus in their office of local restaurants and then make the reservation for you. Two nice (meaning casual but a little more $) restaurants we went to is Tequila's and Morgan's. Nice romantic atmosphere - really good food, especially Morgan's.

Minor cons: Javier's was pretty good, but not great and not really that great of a value. The staff there are very friendly though and treat you like you are in a nice restaurant. This hotel was relaxing and quiet - there were a few groups that were a little into the partying-drinking and got a little loud at the pool, but it was pretty good overall. My only fear is that this hotel could potentially attract those types. At night is was VERY quiet, it was only a few times during the day. On the time share, we came in late and kind of got suckered into it. I would say it's not really that high-pressure, but it definitely gets annoying at the end. If it's worth 90 mins of your time for some for spa services, I would say go for it, otherwise stick to your guns and say no!

My husband and I stayed at Cabo Azul February 22nd -February 26th. We got a killer deal for 5 days and 4 nights. Yes, there is construction going on but it didn't bother us. After reading some other reviews I now understand why the entrance and reception area was so small. They must be still building the entrance. We didn't like getting asked to take the 90 min sales tour for a time-share. They even offered us $200 if we accepted. We had to say no twice but after that no mention again. Before we got there I asked if we could get a ocean view. They could not guarente (sp) that but when we got there they told us they upgraded us to a ocean view. Everyone there was very accomodating. The food and drinks are expensive. I loved the food at Javier's. I would definately recomend getting your groceries at the Mega market for just a 15 min. walk or $5 cab ride round trip. Just ask the front desk for a cab. I didn't miss swimming in the ocean. The pools are fabulous. Service exceded my expectations. Clean, romantic, beautiful. If you walk off the resort property vendors will approch you to buy things. Also while walking on the streets people will try to get you to sign up for a time share tour somewhere. To the extent of stopping you while walking to the store. A guy quickly pulled over and parked his car to ask us to sign up for a time share. That was a little distrubing. They have nothing to do with the resort though. You will love it!

We stayed at the Cabo Azul from March 6 to March 13 2009.
It was really great. The pools are so sparkling clean as is the gardens and the beach.
The room was immaculate and kept that way by excellent daily housekeeping services.
We had a ground floor garden room tucked into a corner. (6105) and it was perfect.
It was just a few steps to the pool. And we could sit on our patio and have breakfast with a maximum of privacy.
San Jose del Cabo is a lovely town with nice shops (not the usual trinkets and junk)and fantastic restaurants. We highly recommend Habaneros, Damiano and La Antigua. Wonderful patio dining with excellent food.
Go to the Mega store for groceries to prepare your own meals in the well equipped kitchen in your villa.
The beach is beautiful, however it is not recommended for swimming as there are rip tides. The pool more than makes up for the lack.
There are two jacuzzi pools each a little different and both really clean and warm.
The only negative comment is that the second bedroom has no window to speak of. It has an opaque window that measures about 2x4 and is covered with a shutter. the lighting in both bedrooms is very dim and while this is quite romantic, if you want to see to read or whatever, good luck.
There is limited parking if you have a rental car.
Not much else in the negative realm.
We had a wonderful time and will definitely return.

I booked this hotel with a deal that sounded too good to be true. I was blown away by the beauty and service when I got there.
The service by the staff--especially by the pool and the palapa restaurant-- was perfect, never in-your-face, but always there when you wanted anything. They called me "Princess" , which was very sweet and sincere, not patronizing!
Rooms are drop dead gorgeous. But don't expect to read in bed. The lighting, while romantic, didn't let me find my shoes, let alone read.
The only critique I can think of is that at check in, there could have been a more warm welcome. I felt a distinct lack of anything to reassure that we booked the right place. Maybe greet guests with a welcome drink, or something other than matter-of-fact taking of the credit card! Themeeting with the "concierge" was nothing more than a sales pitch for time shares. It did nothing for our anticipation.
Oh, and STAY AWAY from Javier's restaurant!! Stick to the pool restaurant. Food, and especially service, were MUCH better. All of us hated Javier's. Manager wouldn't even show his face when we had a problem!

Just returned from a getaway in Cabo and the Cabo Azul was great! Rooms were very spacious. I had a 1 bedroom villa which can accomodate up to 4 people with a king sized bed in the bedroom and a queen sized pull-out couch in the living room. The kitchen was also great if you enjoy cooking and then can eat your meal on the huge balcony! I had a pool view from my room but can see the ocean at a distance.

The pool area was very nice and getting a chair by the pool was never an issue. The spa was also really nice and had a very relaxing atmosphere and also has a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi that you can use before or after you get your service.

There is also an on-site market and cafe. The market is a little pricey, but if you do not want to trek to the Mega Mart or if you just want a quick beverage, you can go to the on-site market.

Overall, the resort is fairly quiet and the staff were all super friendly. The concierge did ask if you want to participate in the timeshare presentation when you check-in, but if you politely decline, they will never ask you again.

I would definite recommend this hotel and would probably stay there again if i return to Cabo.

We just recently returned from a one week stay at this incredible resort. We loved everything about it. We were a large group of 3 families with children that range from 8-15. The rooms are tastefully appointed and spacious. We had a 2 bedroom villa. The second bedroom is a little on the dark side and it doesn't have a tv. Since it's the "kids" room I wish it would've been a little bit more kid friendly. The beds are so comfortable and the showers, closets, and other ammenities are high class. The kitchen is fully stocked with a blender, Krups coffeemaker (bring your own filters), and toaster. We made breakfast and some lunches in the room.
We had heard that the pool bar was very expensive and we found that was really untrue in comparison to the other tropical places we've visited. Beers were about $5 and mojitos and mixed drinks ranged from $6-8. Although that can add up, it is such a nice convenience and part of being on vacation. We stopped at the Mega Market up the block. This is just like our American WalMarts. It has everything! Food, bakery, fresh meats, produce, alcohol, beach toys, clothes, pharmacy, shampoos, suntan lotions etc... No worries if you leave anything at home- you can buy everything at this store.
We ate dinner at Shooters Sports Bar (rooftop bar with burgers, wings, quesadillas,, fajitas etc...), Meson del Angel (beautiful restaurant with delicious steaks, chicken dishes, fancy drinks), La Bodega (really, really yummy steaks and desserts) La Dolce (italian dishes and every type of personal pizza you can imagine.) We also ate dinner at the restaurant by the pool at the resort and had some really good meals like steak skewers, chicken, and salads, and our kids loved the burgers.
DO NOT GO ON A TIMESHARE PRESENTATION FOR FREE THINGS UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY ARE CONSIDERING BUYING! The free catamaran cruise they gave us was NOT WORTH our time. I seriously would have rather paid for my tickets on a catamaran cruise then get the "free" one they gave us. The catamaran was on La Princessa's premier cruise. This was an accident that benefited us. You see, when you get the "free" cruise, you get put on a smaller boat with lots and lots of people. They overbooked us and had to direct us to their other "premier" ship which was much nicer and had less people. They DO NOT take you whale watching like they promise and that's exactly what we wanted to do so we were really disappointed. The cruise was nice but the water was REALLY cold and the kids didn't really want to snorkel that long because they were turning blue (really.)
We went to Wild Canyon Adventures which was awesome. We went ziplining on 8 ziplines and it includes a hike through the desert between each zip line. Wear sunblock and drink LOTS of water. Then, 3 of us bungee jumped which was super cool. All of us enjoyed it- even the ones who were spectators!
We spent our last night going on a horseback ride at sunset time. That was alot of fun- $25 for one hour- just enough. This was on the beach right outside of our resort. We secured our reservation that morning. Bring light sweaters, chinos, sweatclothes. It will make your stay more enjoyable. At this time of year, sundresses for dinner are out.
