We just returned from our stay at the Grand Mayan. We were invited by my daugher and husband as they had exchanged a week through RCI. First, I have to say that our experience was wonderful. The property is immaculate and beautiful! The rooms are large, we had a two bedroom lockout accomodation. The restaurant food was quite good, we did only eat there during the lunch time hours since going to dinner was our time away from the resort. We never had one problem with service and everyone was quite friendly and always wanted to please. I have to say that I don't understand the complaints about the timeshare presentation. First I have to ask those who are complaining, have you ever been to a timeshare presentation and if so do you really think it is only going to take an hour and a half? If you did you are a fool no matter what anyone told you. Don't be so gullible!! It was your CHOICE to attend. We did do the presentation and yes it did take longer, BUT it was a very pleasant experience. Those that we dealt with were pleasant and we never felt pressured. The only reason it took as long as it did is because we kept asking questions. No one chains you to a table and insists you stay longer than you want to. We were very impressed with the Mayan properties and liked the idea of the floating weeks and the exchange programs. We joined. Also we spoke to a few others that were at the resort who had been members for many years and they had nothing but good things to say. We never once felt pressured. Of course this may be due to the sales person who we met with. The pools were a bit chilly at the beginning of the week but as the week warmed up the pools were delightful. I would suggest if you want warm pools you go during the summer months and not the spring. Check the temperatures. Great place to stay!!

I have done a fI have participated in a few timeshare spiels and this was by far the worst experience ever. They (Vida Properties) keep you there as long as possible (a minimum of 3+ hours), despite the fact that you are obligated to 90 minutes. As other have stated, their ultimate goal is to wear you down. They did not succeed with me and threatened to not give my "gifts". There were no less than 6 people who push you to buy. The initial invitation came from Kelly at the local Wal-mart. Her line of garbage is that she is the only woman, an American, and therefore she really gets a hard time and could we please just help her out. My husband fell for this line and signed up. She also promised us two tattoo's at her husbands place of business, but somehow he went out of town and could not do them. She also lied and told us one of the discounts they will give us is for restaurant we enjoy. While our invitation said discounts, it did not specify for what and guess what they don't have?

As for the report itself - for a place that claims it's the be all, end all, there were very few people there. I saw so few people I even asked if they were open yet. I was told they've been there for 5+ years. It can't be much of a place when you see less than 20 people during Easter week. The location is also very far from downtown Cabo. Unless you have a car (which we do) - you would be stuck at the boring resort or paying for high price taxi's. They said they do have a shuttle that leaves every 2 hours.

I fully understand the objective of a timeshare sell. We've done these in the past and have even purchased twice in the past (after several negotiations to get a decent price). However, this company is only interested in scamming you, your time and then denying your "gift" for listening. They are disrespectful, rude, pushy and liars. I have contacted the Wal-mart headquarters to complain that they would allow such a scam to be run out their store. I am certain nothing will come of that, but I felt I must warn others.ew timeshare

Room Tip: don't go there

Anyone who complains about this place is a fool. The entire place was immaculate, the service excellent. Yeah, don't do the timeshare unless you truly are interested, . and let them know in advance. We were never hassled again. The rooms are huge and we saw whales breeching from our room. They have some activities for kids, teens would be bored, big surprise, the little kids had a blast at the pool. The service was great, food did kinda suck, but it's made for American's, bland. We took the bus to the city it was quick, clean, and 8 pesos. Taxis are all set prices, no need to negotiate. Walked around in the evenings, safe, everyone is friendly. Take a cab to Zippers $, avg, food but right on the surf beach in Costa Azul. Art district has some incredible restaurants $$$, Baja brew pub was good food and beer $$.

The Grand Mayan is owner of the local golf course and responsible for maintenance of the course and the pond. They have failed to execute this responsibility with no treatment of the pond commencing until after local residents were already experiencing an infestation of mosquitoes. Mayan management now claims that the pond is under control (debatable). But accepts no responsibility for the infestation that is still plaguing the locals. The lack of integrity demonstrated in this matter requires a vote of "no confidence" in dealing with this company.

Stayed at here at the end of April and the weather was amazing. 90's but very dry (no humidity) with a refreshing breeze off the ocean, and not a cloud in the sky!
my husband went golfing at the resorts course- 9 holes. It was about $60 including club rentals and cart - that was also discounted because we did the timeshare presentation otherwise it was $100. the timeshare presentation was long but we also got 10% off bill at the end of the week. And yes- the people are pushy and annoying but it saved us money.
The resort is amazing. Huge pools, nice spa, good food. The maid service is also very good, they come in morning and night and were also very pleasant.
We had a one bedroom suite with a kitchen, so we went to the Mega store (like a super walmart) just down the road. it's walkable - but not if you plan on getting a ton of stuff. it is only $5 to catch a cab one way.
We also went to a great local restaurant - Mi Casa - got a cab there and back but food was great!
We walked into San Jose and felt safe.
The ocean isn't ideal to swim in - waves are HUGE and there's a jellyfish warning.
we also did some excursions... ziplines and a sunset dinner cruise. both were awesome!

Room Tip: one bedroom suite sleeps 4 perfectly with kitchen
