“Great meal out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2013

Had a meal at this restaurant with a couple of friends and everything from the service to the food was excellent. The ambience was good and the prices reasonable.

We were warned before that they did not take credit cards or debit cards so not a problem.

Will definitely go back if we can persuade our friends ( Ken & Dawn) to invite us down adain

“Excellent meal and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2013 via mobile

We took friends who had never eaten in this restaurant before and they were delighted by the quality of the food, wine and service. We opened with a bottle of the Riversdale Sauvignon Blanc which was so good, we had to have another very quickly!
After opting for starters and mains, we were unable to consider deserts!

The pricing is about the same as most decent restaurants in the area (our 4 person bill with the 2 bottles of wine was £148) but the quality of the food and service is something you will not find in every restaurant in the area!

“Very good food but difficult to pay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2013

Enjoyed a great evening here with two friends watching the sunset over Hope Cove - beautiful. The food and service from the two lovely ladies on duty was great and the rose wine we had from their French collection was a delight. Only downer was having to pay by cash (and therefore incurring the £2.50, or whatever, cost from the machine at the pub next door)... there's a notice at the restaurant saying along the lines of "due to the astronomically high bank charges associated with card transactions we can't accept cards, only cash". In fact, banks only charge approx. 20p per transaction for debit card payments so if your spending £120 for a meal it is a touch frustrating that the owner is not willing to absorb this cost of 0.16% of the bill.

Thanks for your comments. The subject of credit/debit cards has been discussed in previous reviews and asking anyone who could find us a reasonable deal. I genuinely would like to accept cards if only we could get a good deal. Bearing in mind that we are only open for 6 months of the year, the costs would be:-

Joining fee £300, terminal rental £338.60 pa, minimum service charge £300 pa, credit card commission 2.25% or 25p per transaction, bank charges 50p per transaction. Lets assume in year 1 there are 200 transactions of £100 split equally between credit and debit cards, our total annual charge would be £1013 - which equates to just over 5% straight off our bottom line, and if it were all credit cards it would be nearer 6%.

I appreciate your comments, and once again I would ask if anyone knows of a better deal

“Cracking cream tea!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

We stopped here with our two year old one afternoon after visiting the beach and were really pleasantly surprised. The cream tea was absolutely delicious but what impressed us most was the service. A real fuss was made over our little boy (which we really appreciated) and the hosts were both chatty and friendly. I would also add that the smells coming out of the kitchen were DIVINE!
