Hope Barton Barns
Reviewed 23 May 2014

We had a wonderful time at Hope Barton, swimming every day and taking long cliff-top walks in the sunshine. As an experiment we did without a car. Hope Cove is so delightful that it is impossible to get bored. The spring flowers along the roadside banks and the birds, both those you can see and those that you can only hear, are fabulous. We got the bus into Kingsbridge just once but other journeys further afield are possible with a bit of planning. To cut down on food shopping you can buy many basics from the small shop or delicious ready-prepared meals. The Monday night supper is not to be missed.

Room Tip: There is a wide variety of cottages and apartments to choose from depending on the size of your part...

Absolutely wonderful location, perfect for families and couples alike.

My wife, my young (14 week old) son and I stayed at Hope Barton in May 2014 - we stayed in the Linhay, which was ideal for us, but all of the barns are equally conveniently located.

On site there is a pool, bar, sauna, restaurant facilities, childrens play areas - one a fantastic converted barn - and a small selection of farm animals housed in a separate area away from the barns - perfect for children.

The facilities are comprehensive, they provided an cot bed for us, and we had everything we needed to make the week a joy.

Hope Cove is a very short walk away, with two large beaches, a pub, restaurant and a Post Office - and several hotels open for meals if you so wish.

The South West Coastal Path runs through Hope Cove - and so if your so inclined, there's a huge amount of coastline for you to explore.

Close to Salcombe and to Dartmouth - which are hugely pretty port towns - and within easy driving of Plymouth.

Overall, we had an absolutely wonderful time - and will certainly be back later this year.

Room Tip: Stay in the Linhay

Our second time here and it didn't disappoint. If the local scenery doesn't blow you away there's lots to do on site. Chilli night and bar skittles, swimming pool, hay barn with rope swings... It's a family paradise where kids can roam freely and safely. Always lots of other families there to mix with or the benefit of privacy if you want. Very dog friendly. Exceptionally friendly staff. We'll be going back again! And again!

Just back from February half term break. We have visited many times and delighted each and every time. The staff are lovely and obliging particularly John who seems to be everywhere and all things. We turn up and the key is waiting in the door.
Don't miss the Monday night feast and the skittle evening. What a beautiful spot! You can walk down to the sea following a stream and go to the Hope & Anchor (Blazing log fire) or use many footpaths that surround the Barns. Lovely for kids lovely for adults.

Had a week on an exchange at Hope Barton Barns. The property itself is nice - quite spacious and well-equipped kitchen. However, it is quite a distance from anywhere & to get anywhere, it is along narrow single-track lanes. As it was a cold winter, walking and outdoor activities were limited. The Monday supper is worth it, & happy hour drinks reasonable. Electricity charges not cheap. Reception & staff very helpful & friendly. A tip - don't follow the GPS directions, follow the directions given by the resort. Our GPS took us down lanes so narrow that the branches were hitting the windscreen - not joking. If we come back, it would be in the summer.
