“Beautiful views but hotel tired”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

This family hotel is situated in a beautiful hope cove. The hotel is welcoming but the decor is a little tired and in need of an update. Sunday lunch is good value but not special. Would go back but recommend that you book a car park space in lower level as the higher car park is a steep climb.

“Nice people, nice place, scones not so brilliant...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2013

Dropped in at during the August Bank holiday weekend for a cream tea. Initially sat on the terrace outside and were quickly approached by a member of staff with the menu and information. We placed the order inside and the cream teas soon arrived.

Sadly the arrival of the food heralded the arrival of hordes of wasps, something we had found elsewhere in South Deven during the weekend. So we retreated inside.

A nicely presented cream tea, plenty of good quality jam and clotted cream. However the kitchen were having an off day with the scones. They were huge and could be used for breaking windows, very solid and floury.

It was a great pity because all the staff we dealt with were really pleasant, friendly and helpful and the genteel surroundings inside and on the terrace were lovely.

“Failed to get served on the terrace for drinks...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2013

We visited for drinks after a coastal path walk from Bolberry. We had high hopes seeing its fantastic location, stunning view from the terrace. However, we sat for 5 minutes when waiter arrived to ask if we had ordered 'no' we replied and he walked off! Then 5 minutes later another more senior looking waiter arrived and asked the same question, saying he would be back to take our order - he then walked passed us twice - at this point we called it a day and left to find a nice tea room without a view, but with staff who are willing to provide refreshment!

“Fab Food, lovely staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

Have recently eaten here and even though they were busy with a theme weekend the staff were very attentive and warm. Great food and excellent portions. Will certainly eat here again, it will be on my 'a' list as we are often in Hope Cove. I agree, like going back in time but in a good way!

“Lovely Sunday Lunch, Outstanding Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2013

I wanted to treat my Dutch naval son, whose ship was in Plymouth for a short period, to a proper English Sunday Lunch and after a lot of research I booked lunch at the Cottage Hotel for the three of us (husband, son and myself). Because of his limited free time, and the slowness of the Devon roads, we needed to change the time of the booking twice and when we finally arrived we realised we had less time for the lunch than we hoped for. The Cottage Hotel staff rose to the challenge - even though the restaurant was full, they managed to find us a table near the window and served us every course of the meal promptly so that we were back in Plymouth in time to get my son back on board. So: 10 out of ten for service, good old-fashioned courtesy and on top of all that the food was delicious and the prices so reasonable that I am not surprised that the restaurant was full. We hope to come back and stay at the hotel ( my husband has fond memories of staying there in years gone by) and have the Sunday lunch again, in a more relaxed time schedule. Need I say more? On top of all that: the location of the hotel is great. This is English Cuisine and Courtesy at its best. Thank you Cottage Hotel.
