If you visit Mersea its probably because of the reputation of the great seafood along the beach. Yes it is great seafood however very expensive fish and chips around 12 pounds.

However we walked along to east Mersea and discovered a lovely cafe THE SEAVIEW CAFE. Don't miss it. Along with the lightly battered fish which was plentiful, the excellent chips, mushy peas and what tasted like home made tartare sauce is was exceptional. We sat with a lovely view in the sunshine enjoying this tasty dish. There is also parking right there. The new proprietors had a chat with us and she and her husband have a long history of catering and will make more improvements as they go along. We are temporarily staying here for 6 months and will go again and recommend it to anyone visiting Mersea. Its right at the entrance into the holiday camp by the beach huts. Good luck to the owners, you are doing a fantastic job.

We stopped by for a light lunch and a drink and were greeted by a very good menu, including hand battered fish and homemade fishcakes, complemented by a lovely selection of homemade cakes and unusual soft drinks.
We had the scampi with chips and peas and were pleased to find that it was good quality scampi, which along with the chips cooked to perfection. Whilst clearly cooked to order it arrived very quickly.
We sat outside and there was a nice atmosphere whilst quiet and calm.
I would highly recommend visiting this cafe and treating yourself to chips, as it will be worth the calories!!
Thankyou to the two lovely ladies that looked after us! See you again!

We ended up here the second morning of our two night stay and had a regular fried breakfast. It was freshly cooked, quickly served and with bacon and sausages from a local farm. Good value too. The lady in charge also obligingly swapped the beans for mushrooms for me which I appreciated. A excellent choice if you don't get breakfast with your accommodation, especially if the weather's good as there's outside seating and a great view of the pastel beach huts and sea beyond.

Had breakfast here once and another time had a milkshake and both times the food was really nice. Some of the staff made time to chat which was nice and it wasnt just young staff serving, which is unusual now days, which ment they took a bit more time with us.

On my last visit to Mersea Island I stumbled across the Seaview Cafe, a stones throw from the beach. The place was clean and bright, the food was reasonably priced and delicious and the staff were enthusiastic and good fun. I will definately be making a return visit.
