“Short staffed, but good food”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

A real shame when staff let you down, especially a busy Saturday night! The remaining staff tried their best, three of them checking whether we had a booking and then when seated disappearing so drinks took an age.
Getting past the service the food is great, well prepared, cooked and presented. Nothing out of the ordinary menu wise; skate, belly pork, steaks - as you would expect in a coast-side restaurant. Good portion size so good value for money. But the best bit is the dessert list of all the greats....brioche/butter pudding, treacle tart etc etc.
Well presented interior and parking both sides of the road. Worth a visit.

“good little find”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

went on a sunday and it started raining when we got to mersea and we were starving!
the parking was very scarce and the place was heaving!

we honestly thought we would have to sit out in the rain for food with a 40 minute wait! (like alot of people did)

we thought the place was lovely alot of families for there sunday meals were in. we walked in and there was no tables free to eat it was raining outside but they waitress did advise us they had no tables free for over 2 hours but she we pleaded and she fit us into what was a packed venue within 20 minutes we had a table. to pass time we went to the bar and got some drinks and a member of the staff noticed that there was a table free hidden from view so we now had a seat.

Once our table was ready the staff came and got us from the bar area.

have to say havent enjoyed fish and chips as much as this in a long while!

great portions! and well worth the cash!

recomended we will go back if ever in mersea.

i assume service at times can vary as the venue was so busy but that is a good sign for a business and they do try their best.

“Popular Inn”

Friendly staff, nice decor and good food. Weekend is very busy so you will need to book. I recommend the crab salad (had it three times).

“A nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

We were eating at the nearby company shed and had some time to kill.
A nicely done out pub with a good selection of beers and wines.
A good pub garden.
Very popular place.

“Appalling service over the phone”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

A friend of mine booked this restaurant so, as I am allergic to gluten, I thought it best to phone to find out what's available. Nowadays most restaurants are brilliant and even have a 'Gluten free' menu. The response on the phone was utterly depressing. There was absolutely no customer service at all. I was told they were busy and that I could have 'grilled fish or steak, potatoes and veg.' I could have that at home! If that is how they treat their customers over the phone, I dread to think what the service is like in the restaurant!
I won't be visiting there or advising anyone else to.
