“A real find...Coeliac Heaven!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014 via mobile

On a drive out to Mersea for the first time passed this pub and decided to pop in. Wonderful service, very friendly and helpful staff. Unbelievable quality food which was was cooked to perfection... two steaks and mussels. No problem for Coeliac customers, never felt so looked after and 'normal'! Would travel the 45 minutes anytime. Well done to all involved.

“Family Friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

My partner, 6 year old son and myself walked up to the pub from Fen Farm campsite, just a couple of minutes away. We'd had a bit of a nightmare setting up the tent, so looking for a good meal and a bit of warmth and we were not disappointed. Very friendly welcome, good menu choice, including for children, attentive service. Food freshly cooked but not a long wait, piping hot and generous portions, well kept ale. Would happily recommend.

“2 hour wait for a salad A dog of a pub”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014 via mobile

We had booked and most of the party arrived on time. We wrtr 20 minutes late due to having to sort out our baby. Requested regular updates and were given inaccurate promises. Be honest if you are understaffed and not up to the job.really unfriendly and an unpleasant atmosphere. Staff made snide remarks and had privates jokes with the locals. Felt like I had walked into the Slaughtered Lamb. If are going to East Mersea take a picnic and don't rely on this dog of a pub

“Nice pub grub with good atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

My sister and I stayed in the cottage next door, so enjoyed the lunchtime meals and evening food here. Tasty, with helpful assistance from staff. Moreover, they did takeaways, most welcome for guests at the cottage next door. Basically, it was good, wholesome grub.... Most welcome

“Lovely!”

Stayed at Coopers Beach so popped in here for a meal and wasn't let down. Friendly staff and locals, great atmosphere and scrummy food. Will definitely be coming back here when we come to Mersea again.
