Is my lasting memory of our meal, which was tasty but slow and disorganised. We saw others arrive before the 6.30 opening of the restaurant section of the pub so uprooted from the bar to the restaurant. Others arrived much after, but we were completely overlooked. My desperately hungry son asked if he could ask for a menu after a twenty minute wait, and as no-one was forthcoming I let him. We ended up with a forty five minute wait for an order to be taken, while other customers were served far more swiftly. We started to feel that as tourists we weren't welcome.

When we were able to order, i had to show the staff where the item I wanted to order was displayed.

The food itself arrived in a timely fashion and all five of us really enjoyed our food. The burger was well cooked in a lovely bread roll and the chips were delicious. The fish pie was nicely done although the white wine sauce could have been a bit more flavoursome. The childrens meals were generously served and enjoyed by all. However at £5 for just a main course (no drink, no pudding included) it seemed a little steep. However, there was an offer for half price kids food with an adult meal during half term.
Which brings us to the next issue, that this was not honoured. Unfortunately it was not realised until we had left.
When the cash we paid for our food was taken we were asked if we wanted our change. Over our years eating on holidays, where we live in Bristol and when we lived in London this was never asked and took me back, especially as the service had left rather a lot to be desired. The amount was comparable to the amount that the tip 'should' be. To save embarrassment I said yes but that coupled with the missed kids deal means we have been left with a negative impression. Having stayed for the first time in a lovely holiday park where we plan to return on many occasions, we can't forsee a time where the kings Arms will feature. Take the car and visit Sidmouth instead for wider variety and better service!

We were visiting our family who were holidaying nearby and chose The Kings Arms because it had been recommended. The owner of The Kings Arms was very keen to know what we thought of the room, which had just been refurbished and looked good. Although the shower needed updating and was also very small. The breakfast was a fiasco. We were told to move from where we were sitting because' it would be easier to manage everyone in the same area'! I refused and she set up the table which had only been half prepared. We had to ask for tea twice and when it came to the breakfast itself, there was only cereal, no fruit or even tinned fruit. The selection at the counter was dismal. Bullet proof fried eggs, cheap sausages, bacon uncooked. I asked to speak to the chef, but he was busy. He brought out scrambled eggs which he had in an old ice cream container! The toast had only looked at the toaster. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Customer service does not exist in that establishment. Beautiful surrounds but staff and pub need to be refurbished!

Room Tip: The room we were in was No 9. If you want to sleep in a comfortable bed, don't chose this one...

This is the second time we have stayed at The King's Arms and since last year there has been some excellent refurbishing going on. My only complaint about our small but clean and comfortable en suite was that the bathroom fan was too noisy and ran on far too long! Oh! Another tiny whinge was that there were no glasses in the bathroom. The breakfast was OK but nothing to write home about. Although I prefer my breakfast cooked fresh and delivered to my table, a buffet system can speed things up and makes choices easier. Staff were very friendly but not always 100% efficient.

We have been visiting this area over the last 14 years and seen many managers run this Pub however, the current one needs to take a refresher course on 'customer service' his style is unfriendly and abrupt. Menu was limited, quality was ok, nothing to rave about. We waited over an hour for our food. On the plus side refurbishment was nice. My advice is go to the Diggers Rest, Quality Food and lovely polite friendly staff who can't do enough for you.

We stopped here for dinner as we were staying nearby and we were so glad we did. We had a lovely meal, the food is outstanding and the price is very reasonable. The staff were all polite and friendly and they were also child friendly as we took our 9 month old daughter with us. I would thoroughly recommend it for food.
