Description: Hotel Juaninos' La Azotea Restaurant is famed for its dazzeling close-up views of the cathedral, amazing by day and magnificently illuminated at night. In a stylish setting of modern decor, the atmosphere is casual and service is welcoming and caring. La Azotea Restaurant specializes in contemporary Mexican gastronomy with a fusion of Michoacan's own regional cuisine. Our menu of the day presents culinary delights that evoke nostalgia because they are based on precious traditional recipes of our ancestors. There is an extensive selection of Mexican and imported wines. A private dining room seating up to 20 persons is available for special events such as weddings or business meetings. The restaurant is open from 8 am to 11 pm daily.

we were the only diners in our section , top floor with a great view of the cathedral.
Again I ordered something that in a busy restaurant is always good, it was the pork shank, but if it sits on the stove , it dries out and looses taste. This was the case here, so I should have heeded my own advice, do not order dishes that take a lot of preparation and time to cook, in an upmarket and expensive restaurant with few patrons.

I love this restaurant even though I haven´t been in a while. The menu is varied, style international, service impeccable, and the view of the cathedral is unequaled.

I had one of the best cuts of beef I have ever tasted, with a chimichuri sauce. Great choice of tequila, although I am no expert! The view of the cathedral is superb. Staff were very polite, and, although not a speedy service, it was adequate. The decor and general building was excellent, recommend a visit! Visit, July 2011.

The restaurant Azotea is on top of the Hotel Los Juaninos, with a stunning view of the cathedral - especially at night. The hotel itself is a converted classic colonial style building, where the courtyard has been covered. The restaurant is a long room, which on one side faces the beautiful cathedral and the Plaza Melchor Ocampo. If the nights or evenings are not cold or it's raining, you can sit on the outside, but the space is limited and very narrow.
The restaurant boasts traditional kitchen from Morelia/Michoacán, but personally I think it was average and conservative.
The Escamoles Juaninos was in fact quite delicious, with a good balance between the fieriness of the chilli and the somewhat bland, white cheese.
The squash blossoms, which can be a revelation, was sadly overcooked and tasteless.
The chicken strips in mole sauce with tamarind was OK - I acknowledge that mole is a generic description of virtually 1000's of different recipes, but you have to know how to balance chillies, tamarind and the about 20 other ingredients in a mole - this was a near miss.
But the beer was cold and the scenery fantastic - so try to get by for a light snack and a nightcap and enjoy the view - but unless on the brink of starvation, find another place, which is easy in the myriad of good places in Morelia.
