“Touristy, but fun!”
Reviewed 4 December 2013

I generally don't like to hit the touristy places. I'm the type of traveler who much prefers to immerse myself in the culture of where I’m visiting by hanging out with the locals, eating the food they eat in the way that they prepare it, instead of in the uninspiring version tailored to finicky tourist’s taste buds. I like to visit the places the locals hang out, to see how they spend their off time, instead of joining a bunch of other tourists being herded to the “tourist trap” shopping venues where the prices are jacked up ten-fold in contrast to the off-the-beaten-path venues. However, having said that… if you go to Parian in Puebla, you really can get a taste of the culture and food, since the locals seem to like to hang out there, too! The food really is authentic; and if you feel the prices are too high, just move down a couple of blocks. In addition, the local scene is not far away. Only a few blocks away is Los Sapos, where— yes, I admit, is a tourist trap during the day— but at night, the place is ALIVE and hopping with the locals at all the bars along the Los Sapos strip (which are closed during the day, but all open at night). I know, because I used to live in Puebla and dated a young Poblano. And this was one of our favorite places to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night. Get ready to let your hair down and dance and go crazy! (Just be careful with your valuables. Better not to bring them!)

“Ceramica talavera”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Very nice place to buy the typical ceramica talavera. This is a very special tupe of clay where the people from Puebla build eveything you can imagine. They are beatiful and rare and worth the cost.

“best place to buy handcraft items.”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

whenever I visit Puebla this is one of the must place to visit b/c it offers items that are from all over Mexico at reasonable prices. Don't ever settle on the first price given and do shop around before settle on buying. Some items look like a typical souvenir items but if you do looking around you can find a hidden gem at great price!

“Parian flea market”
Reviewed 12 May 2013

The Parian Market use to be a great spot to visit, it has come down a little. You will be able to find a decent souvenir. Like in all folk markets in the world you can certainly bargain for a deal. If you are walking around downtown Puebla is nice to visit. I wouldn't bother a special trip for this.

“the usual suspects”
Reviewed 22 April 2013

A tourist market like many others in Mexico. Lots of chotchkes, nothing special. Find a real mercado, or go where the stuff is made (mostly somewhere other than Puebla).
