The hotel is two blocks from Puebla's downtown (this is the best of the hotel), but the room had old furniture (an old tv, a few channels, little beds, no closet, no carpet. The restaurants is the best of the hotel. I would not become to the hotel, but I would eat many times at the restaurant.

I first stayed at the Hotel Colonial about 10 years ago. The front desk stuff were all grouchy, the rooms were large but lacking much furniture and the bathrooms looked like they had been installed when the building was erected in the late 1600s. Then I returned recently. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms had been remodelled without losing the sense of colonial charm. We had a marvellous time at the hotel. I was sick for one of my days in Puebla and was glad I could spend that day at the Colonial. The restaurant and wi-fi both worked as they should.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony.

We chose Hotel Colonial because of the good reviews and also because of the location. The hotel is two blocks from the Zocalo, located on a walking street, consequently no cars passing by. This made for a very peaceful stay, far enough away from car horns and busy streets, but accessible to everything. We were especially fortunate to have a room that faced Popo, and in the mornings we could see the tip of the volcano from our room before the clouds covered it. Nothing super luxurious in this colonial hotel, but very clean, quiet, the staff was helpful throughout our stay, rooms were warm, and we were made to feel welcome. If I do return to Puebla, I would return here,

Room Tip: ask for a room that faces the town center, with a window that will give a breathtaking view of the volcano.

The hotel was comfortable and only a block or two away from all the things I wanted to see in that city. They had a nice, but perhaps a little pretentious, restaurant that served local cuisine with a cosmopolitan flavor and presentation. Some of the staff were friendly but the people at the front desk seemed surly--perhaps not entirely happy that I was staying there for a visit with my father. The rooms were clean and comfortable with a generous bathroom and sleeping was tranquil.

This hotel is housed in a 16th century monastery and was just beautiful. The location, one block from the zocolo, was terrific -- when we got chilly it was a quick walk to grab a sweater. The staff was very helpful with parking and any other needs. The rooms were generously sized. The elevator was operated by staff and it was a little slow for someone to bring it up when waiting up top. There was a lot of noise from the side street at night. But otherwise a lovely stay in a beautiful city.
