“Only tried the restaurant and underwhelmed”

This poses as a truly international restaurant with a Pueblan flavour. The reality is that it's purely Mexican and you really have to push to get something other than the usual spicy, chilly inspired meal. On this occasion we were able to find a waiter that sort of understood what we wanted and we ended up with a basic grilled fish with rice and vegetables - quite reasonable, but took a while to get through

I've traveled extensively in Mexico but am visiting Puebla for the first time. What a delightful city! Casona de la China Poblana is a beautifully presented boutique hotel in an historic colonial edifice. Located just one long block from the main plaza (zócalo), it makes for an ideal base from which to explore the historic, culinary, and other delights of the city center. Also had one dinner in the restaurant, which was delicious. One bit of advice: pack an extra light jacket or sweater as nights out can be surprisingly cool.

This hotel was definitely luxury. I have not stayed in quite such a luxurious place in my travels in Mexico. I hesitated spending the $129 per night but decided when I walked into my room that it was going to be worth every cent. The room and bathroom were large and lovely. And! the breakfast that was included was made to order --- a large plate of fresh watermelon, papaya, apple, pineapple, cantelope, etc and egg dishes that were made to order. My dish was scrambled eggs with cheese and fresh mushrooms and sliced poblano pepper... delicious!
Casona de La China is in a great location...just steps from the Zocalo, but very quiet rooms. I was going to stay at the Casareynes but after going there for dinner, I was happy that I did not. It was about 8 or 9 blocks from the center, across a busy highway and next to a ugly Cinemax. (The dinner was excellent thought)

Room Tip: I was in a large corner room that was very quiet. It had no windows except for a skylight. The lig...

I went last sunday for 3 nights ... They spoiled us ! we had a wonderful suite ( N*2) on two levels. The staff did reconnize us and we had such a wonderful time. I ordered a special dinner with no menu and requested to be surprised. This dinner was over what I expected. Wonderful meal, Champagne and Chateauneuf du Pape, Impeccable service full of lovely attentions to us. I will for sure come back at la China Poblana as this is more like a second home. Thank you to the management and to all the tremondous staff.

Two couples booked two rooms in Casona. Both were absolutely beautiful and spacious with all the modern amenities juxtaposed with the beauty of a 400 year building. Bathrooms were especially nice and practical with double sinks and a separate toilet room. The second floor lobby area was a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the complimentary coffees and water or to enjoy a nightly bottle of wine as we did. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the city and is only about a block from the Zocalo. The only negative is that it is on a busy street and there is some significant traffic noise. There is usually live music in the restaurant in the evening too so that could be a positive or negative depending on your tastes. The breakfasts were delicious and the staff was delightful and helpful in every way. Not much English is spoken there so a little Spanish is very useful. Our room was the La Nao and I would probably request it again although all the rooms I saw were terrific.

Room Tip: Several rooms have balconies which add to the enjoyment.

This is a hotel that stands out in memory; a place that is simply special. The casona is steeped in history, as the apparent home of the famous China Poblana. A statute of her dominates the courtyard; her beauty is unforgettable. The room was large, and well furnished with a 4-post bed. Every detail is charming, from the solid-wood shutters on the window, to the brass registers in the floor, and the impressive wood ceiling and moulding throughout. Little touches, like the bust on the desk, the fresh flowers on the table, and complimentary fresh fruit top off the experience. While the room maintains it's historic state in style, the bathroom is entirely contemporary and modern.

Breakfast was intimate and delicious, and surprisingly included in the room rate. Wi-fi worked well. The hotel is situated only two blocks from the Zocalo.

Service was impeccable; after inquiring about the availability of taxis at 5am to get to the airport, they arranged for one without being asked to. That's 5-star service. I would definitely stay here again. 10/10

Stayed here as a couple on vacation after a week in Mexico City. The casona is a wonderful place to unwind and is within easy walking distance of Puebla's attractions. Our spacious, quiet room included an easy on the eyes mural painting and cupola to emit light. Bed and chairs were comfortable. Good A/C. Bathroom and shower were clean, modern and worked well. Wall swithes for overhead lighting were a bit confusing to understand.

Courtyard and large, colorful, second floor terrace are airy and gorgeous. Terrace includes comfortable sofa, lounge chairs and tables for relaxing. Sunday buffet breakfast in the courtyard was plentiful delicious. We ordered cheese, guacamole and tacos for a light dinner on the terrace.

Staff was friendly and attentive. Some staff members did not speak much English.

The hotel is a five minute walk from the zocalo (large plaza with a fountain, trees and benches) and is close to musuems. Lots of colorful buildings. Safe and clean streets. Artists' workshops and craft tables on weekends added local flavor.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room on the second floor. A small band or guitarist sing in the courtyard on Saturda...
