“Beautifully arranged rooms with modern amenities”
Reviewed 9 January 2014 via mobile

We came with our three small children and found the staff courteous and helpful. The rooms are spacious, individually and uniquely decorated, and all have modern amenities (designer bathrooms, lots of closet space, a pillow menu...) The restaurant and room service are very slow but otherwise do not have any complaints.

One can consider that the Casona de la China Puebla contributed to Puebla’s designation by UNESCO as a World Heritage. The hotel is close to the main important landmarks of the city, eg, cathedral, library, markets, museums, shopping area, and restaurants. It’s at the corner of two streets which may lead one to immediately fear sleepless night because of outside noise. However, the two rooms we occupied are well-insulated with inner glass doors and on the outside, very old wooden doors (the original 18th century doors?). Its beauty is seen within the courtyard/atrium circled above by a balcony through which visitors pass through on their way to their rooms. Each of the two rooms we occupied has a mezzanine, which could serve as a living room, furnished with a TV, a desk, and a sofa-bed for two (the other room has a Jacuzzi). In front of the rooms we occupied that give to the balcony (same as the other rooms) overlooking the atrium below, is a lounging area with sofas. Next to it is a counter where one could drink coffee or tea and have some biscuits too. Dinner and breakfast are served in the atrium, each time with a musician either singing or playing a musical instrument. Dinner’s menu à la carte included international and mostly traditional Mexican food. We were there on a weekend and the sumptuous breakfast buffet also offered both international as well as Mexican food. There was a varied choice of warm food which could be prepared right away. I tried the “rajas” (cooked green chiles with olives, onions and cream) and found it very tasty. It’s evidently a luxury hotel. The personnel was friendly and courteous.

Room Tip: Google the site of the hotel and pick up the room of your choice. Each room is decorated differently...

This poses as a truly international restaurant with a Pueblan flavour. The reality is that it's purely Mexican and you really have to push to get something other than the usual spicy, chilly inspired meal. On this occasion we were able to find a waiter that sort of understood what we wanted and we ended up with a basic grilled fish with rice and vegetables - quite reasonable, but took a while to get through

I've traveled extensively in Mexico but am visiting Puebla for the first time. What a delightful city! Casona de la China Poblana is a beautifully presented boutique hotel in an historic colonial edifice. Located just one long block from the main plaza (zócalo), it makes for an ideal base from which to explore the historic, culinary, and other delights of the city center. Also had one dinner in the restaurant, which was delicious. One bit of advice: pack an extra light jacket or sweater as nights out can be surprisingly cool.

This hotel was definitely luxury. I have not stayed in quite such a luxurious place in my travels in Mexico. I hesitated spending the $129 per night but decided when I walked into my room that it was going to be worth every cent. The room and bathroom were large and lovely. And! the breakfast that was included was made to order --- a large plate of fresh watermelon, papaya, apple, pineapple, cantelope, etc and egg dishes that were made to order. My dish was scrambled eggs with cheese and fresh mushrooms and sliced poblano pepper... delicious!
Casona de La China is in a great location...just steps from the Zocalo, but very quiet rooms. I was going to stay at the Casareynes but after going there for dinner, I was happy that I did not. It was about 8 or 9 blocks from the center, across a busy highway and next to a ugly Cinemax. (The dinner was excellent thought)

Room Tip: I was in a large corner room that was very quiet. It had no windows except for a skylight. The lig...

I went last sunday for 3 nights ... They spoiled us ! we had a wonderful suite ( N*2) on two levels. The staff did reconnize us and we had such a wonderful time. I ordered a special dinner with no menu and requested to be surprised. This dinner was over what I expected. Wonderful meal, Champagne and Chateauneuf du Pape, Impeccable service full of lovely attentions to us. I will for sure come back at la China Poblana as this is more like a second home. Thank you to the management and to all the tremondous staff.

Two couples booked two rooms in Casona. Both were absolutely beautiful and spacious with all the modern amenities juxtaposed with the beauty of a 400 year building. Bathrooms were especially nice and practical with double sinks and a separate toilet room. The second floor lobby area was a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the complimentary coffees and water or to enjoy a nightly bottle of wine as we did. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the city and is only about a block from the Zocalo. The only negative is that it is on a busy street and there is some significant traffic noise. There is usually live music in the restaurant in the evening too so that could be a positive or negative depending on your tastes. The breakfasts were delicious and the staff was delightful and helpful in every way. Not much English is spoken there so a little Spanish is very useful. Our room was the La Nao and I would probably request it again although all the rooms I saw were terrific.

Room Tip: Several rooms have balconies which add to the enjoyment.
