“do not stay here!!”
Reviewed 28 September 2008

WARNING! Do not be fooled and do not stay here. This place is a joke. For what you pay $$ it is a bad dream. It might look good from the outside, but there is something bound to go wrong. Where do I start?
Upon checking in, I asked Paola the receptionist where is the best place to be dropped off by a taxi. I slightly hit my head against the glass window when she was pointing to the location. No big deal, until she laughed!! Yes, funny with your friend, but not a hotel receptionist, who should be professional and say, "sorry are you ok?" or whatever. But laugh at a guest about to check in who just bumped his head? No that's wrong.
This was a sign of the unprofessional and immature way this hotel is run. It might look cool, but its handled no better than a Holiday Inn.
The first room they took me to, had walls that were so dirty and marked it was pathetic. For what you pay at this hotel, they should not think any guest would stay in a room that had black scuff marks and scratches all along it. It looked like kids had skateboarded up those walls. Confirms their lack to detail or care.
The rooms have large windows. Anyone can look into your room. Unless you cave yourself in and shut the blinds. The windows being as they are do not open. You get no ventilation at all. Besides there are no nice views. Ugly.
The hotel is not near the center of town. You must cross a busy street to get anywhere.
The hotel is next to a convention center and a shopping mall. Boring. Any event at the convention center you will hear in your room. After that event is over, expect the rock band playing at the bar downstairs to rock you out all night.
The Cable did not work. I thought I could kill all the noise I heard with some TV. But no luck. What did break up the noise were the people walking upstairs. The floors are tiled (dirty tile) and you can hear the neighbors walk upstairs.
The floors.. are they meant to look old and never washed or is it "design cool"? Either way its disgusting looking. You can't look much less step on the tile floors.
The best thing about the hotel is the free internet..... I was able to book another room tonight for half the price. With all the modern amenities. My 3 night stay, will become 1, as I gladly check out in the morning.
I am so sad to not have liked this hotel, as I really wanted to and tried, that I write this review the night before I get out of this joke of a hotel. It's the ultimate pig with lipstick.
Again, do not stay here. The receptionist laughed and thought it was funny when I bumped my head... or maybe she knew the place she worked at was a joke!

Loved the design - looks fantastic. Plus shower is good and beds are comfortable. Complimentary drink voucher for guests on arrival is a nice touch. The restaurant is highly recommended - but it was closed when we were there so can't comment!

Some criticisms though:
1) Facilities
The bar and restaurant don't open on Sunday evening. In fact a lot of stuff in Puebla is closed on Sunday evening but you expect the hotel to have some facilities for guests. Complimentary drinks voucher mentioned above was a nice touch but not much good when the bar was closed. We were told to use it the next night, unfortunately we were only staying one night.

2) Air con
The air con in the room is very noisy and the thermostat didn't appear to work so it was either on or off. Not a problem for us as the weather wasn't too hot so we just left it off but would be more of an issue at warmer times of the year.

3) Breakfast
On the plus side, the rate included a continental breakfast with good fresh juices and tasty granola / yoghurt.

On the minus side apart from the juice and granola it was a disappointing display of dried up pastries, wilting ham and cheese and boring cereals. A bit disappointing from a highly recommended restaurant.

It is also a bit smart to charge for tea and coffee when continental breakfast is advertised as included.

And when we checked out there was an amount added to our bill for a tip on the self service breakfast buffet. Turns out that the waiter decided to fill in his own tip on the docket! So check your bills.

Built on the grounds of a former water purification factory, this is a beautiful hotel. Other traveller claims that it is cold confuse me because the decor is bright, welcoming and modern and each room has personally controlled air-con. Although the grounds are huge there are only 26 rooms guaranteeing fantastic service from the staff and beautiful spacious rooms with lots of natural light and handy black out curtains for night. The bed was massive and really comfortable with crisp white bed linen and the shower was great, lined with locally cut marble and easy temperature controls and a great water flow. There’s a safe, hair dryer and they don’t skimp on in room products; offering free Khiels products such as shampoo and moisturisers. Satellite TV and in-room wi-fi for easy internet connections at a conveniently designed desk meant planning ahead for the rest of our trip was made very easy. The lobby is stunning, part inside part outside; 2 large fire pits and old silent black and white movies projected on to the walls. The staff at reception were very welcoming and helped us with all our questions, gave us great recommendations for local places to eat and were genuinely really nice people. We liked the hotel so much we extended our stay from 2 nights to 4; we had been travelling for 5 weeks across Mexico and this was the perfect place to rest up and chill out on the roof terrace and in the amazing rooftop glass lap pool. Breakfast was included and served in a lovely large, airy room on large wooden tables. A lot of the materials used to build and furnish the hotel were salvaged and re-claimed from materials taken out of the origal water purification building, so the design and re-build is both extremely stylish and totally sympathetic of the building’s original history. We paid around £50 including breakfast to stay here per night, if this was in any European city it would easily have cost upwards of £250 a night for this level of comfort and attention to detail. We plan to go back to Mexico and if we go as far as Puebla again, we will definitely book in to this hotel again. We felt it was a real find but now it has been featured in several magazines including Elle Decoration, you should book ahead to guarantee getting a room. It’s fabulous, treat yourself!

Went to dinner there after bieng completly disapointed by the MesonSacritia restaurant. The hotel dinning area on the ground floor and the bar on the top floor have a total lack of charm. The architecture is really impressive but the hotel is awfully noisy due to the proximity of the convention center, the dining area is like a big minimalist cafeteria as all the trendy spots all around the world, and the employees are cold and snob, the prices too high for just an above average class of mexican-international cooking. The bar on the top is nice but no view. Try the Heaven bar of the NH Hotel with a great view of the Popocaltepec a the sunset. NH is a greater hotel in the same style with views uncomparable and better price.

After an infuriating exchange with the person in charge of bookings at meson sacrisita (the #1 rated hotel in puebla from this site) we looked into staying here, and I am delighted we did. It is a stunning architectural beauty. It is a converted convent (then factory) and the open spaces and lobby were beautiful. It was pretty empty when we were there, so we had totally attentive service, not only from the staff but the chef came out to talk to us on several occasions.
Puebla itself isn't the most exciting town to visit (you really only need a few hours to walk around puebla, then a day to see cholula and perhaps if you can negotiate it, take a cooking class at meson sacrisita- which the hotel staff arranged for us).
But staying at this hotel was the highlight of Puebla.

We arrived and had heard great things about the hotel, so we decided to book a room. The hotel is beautiful, but the service is horrible. We had to ask three times before we were given a second robe in our room (which had two guests registered). Also, the showers leaked horribly, and we had to use all of the towels and washcloths to soak up the water that had flooded the bathroom area. Also, when we checked out, they owed us $20 but they did not give it to us until we called and informed them of their error. At that point, they agreed and told us they were holding it for us. Had we not called, we would have never received the money. Also, since the entire hotel is open, it was freezing and we could not even have dinner in the restaurant since it was way too cold. So, when we ordered a bottle of wine to take to our room, they informed us that every single bottle of wine under $60 was sold out (at least six different bottles), so we were forced to purchase a $75 bottle of wine.

the hotel is very hard to find (its down a very small alley just passed the convention centre by the way in case you need directions) but you'll be blown away when you see it. ive stayed in some lovely hotel (wynn las vegas, al maha dubai) but this was the most beautiful hotel ive ever stayed in.

its an old water purifying factory that has been turned into a hotel it has so many lovely features, old exposed brick walls, ridiculously high ceilings, open fires in the lobby, massive staircase in the centre, glass floors (you can see from the top floor all the way to the lobby floor!) glass balcony etc etc etc

the food was great too. only 3 neg points: when we paid they riped us off with the exchange rate (you book in dollars but pay in pesos at a hotel rate which was a bit annoying) also the internet connection in the room was a bit erratic. and the pool was close when we were there which i would have liked to have known in advance.

apart from that its amazing. sorry i haven't put any photos but check out their website there are loads of photos on it. make sure you pay extra for a room with a balcony its only about $20 extra and well worth it.
