What a fantastic week. A very relaxing break in the fantastic desert surroundings with the family. After a solid breakfast in the club house with the tasty freshly squeezed desert springs orange juice it was difficult to leave the easy going pace around the pool with the kids! The setting of the golf course is stunning and provides a completely different perspective to the wonderful atmosphere in the villa!

My family of various ages from me Granny down to the 5 young grandchildren, have just returned from the most amazing holiday in fabulous Desert Springs. I arranged flights to arrive in Alicante as my daughter lives in Rome with her 2 children whereas my 3 sons live in England with their families. Staff at Desert Springs very efficiently arranged for a private bus to transfer us back to our luxurious villas, complete with their own pools for an extremely comfortable holiday with activities to suit all ages. Breakfast in the Clubhouse every morning with delicious selections, including freshly squeezed orange juice from their own trees, was a great start to the day. We then could choose from Golfing, Tennis, Swimming, Cycling, Football Pitch, Children's play Area at the Crocodile Club, Massages and Treatments by Karen in the Day Spa or in our own villa, visits to local beautiful close sandy beaches, markets and many more activities. The sun shone beautifully and so we were all able to enjoy the various activities, ending with a fabulous tasty dinner in The Clubhouse, Crocodile Club or Bar b q in our villa. Staff were extremely efficient, pleasant and looked after us all, making our stay the best holiday ever. I cannot praise enough and can honestly say this is a hidden delight which needs to be seen to be believed. Such a great place with continual sunshine, so close to home that it is easy to visit and already I am planning a return annual visit as it suited all our ages and requirements much more than I could have ever hoped for.

Room Tip: Every apartment and villa has access to its own pool, views are fabulous all around and all needs ca...

We have just returned from an amazing family holiday to Desert Springs. Our party consisted of 8 adults and 5 children. We stayed in two luxurious villas overlooking the golf course, one with it's own pool. Our villa exceeded our expectations, it was modern, spacious and had all the facilities we could have wished for and was very clean and well maintained.
We found the restaurants to be very good value for money, the food was delicious and the staff were very attentive and friendly.
Our children were very happy to stay on resort, they loved playing in the pool and we visited the play area on a daily basis but we did also hire a car and visited a nearby beach which was literally 5-10 minutes drive away.
The male members of our group took advantage of the championship golf course and enjoyed a daily round of golf whilst the female members took full advantage of the beauty treatments available.
We absolutely loved the resort and would definitely recommend and hope to return in the near future.

Fantastic Villas! Great staff! Excellent gym! Really good food and the best gin & tonics in Spain! And the golf's top class also! The facilities are outstanding and once we could drag our children away from the swimming pool there is a whole range of beaches and beachside restaurants 10-15 minutes away.

We stayed in a 4 bedroom villa rented through 'James Villas'. The golf resort is lovely & if you are there for the golf it's ideal. We had 2 children who were too young for golf, but the pool in the villa kept them occupied every day, otherwise there is nothing for them in the resort. The villa was poorly maintained by the resort management, but most problems were swiftly put right during our stay. Perhaps if other people renting the villa had reported problems during their stay, we wouldn't have felt we were complaining all the time. The on site restaurant was very good, but there isn't really anywhere to buy or top up supplies. The nearest supermarkets were in Vera about 15 mins drive away. Vera is a typical Spanish town, clean, but not much in the way of restaurants/bars. The biggest most annoying thing about our stay at Desert Springs were the amount if flies, it was horrendous, we couldn't cook food inside the villa without closing every door & window, & then due to there being no air on or ceiling fans in the kitchen we were literally boiled alive! We wouldn't go back to Desert Springs as there just wasn't enough facilities on site for us.

MoultSylvan, Public Relations Manager at The Desert Springs Resort, responded to this review, 24 May 2014
We have been in touch with Maggie to investigate her comments, because there seemed to be some anomalies.
During Maggie’s stay, the Crocodile Club with its children's pools, equipped children’s play areas, toddlers play area and kick about area were open every day. There was also a Kid's Club, for 6 to 12s, running every week day, Monday to Friday. Also open was The Sierra Club with its sports facilities including tennis, padel tennis, beach volley, gymnasium and other facilities. Both the Crocodile Club Restaurant, offering adults’ and children’s menus, and the fine dining El Torrente Restaurant were open. Down at the Croc Pool, the Chiringuito poolside bar and restaurant was also open every day.
Maggie subsequently explained that it was very busy at the Croc Club, (apparently despite what it states alongside the review, her stay was actually in August) the area around the pool being relatively small and too noisy for her husband and it was too hot for the children in the play areas, which lacked shade. They also had a delay waiting for food and when it arrived there were flies. However, it is not clear whether they had noticed that shady areas are provided around the play spaces by several large fig trees planted there for the purpose or whether they were aware of the several quieter, semi- secluded and private sun lawns outside of the immediate pool area that are provided for people to get away from it all.
There is also a top-up shopping facility located at the Clubhouse. This stocks fresh bread and milk and a range of goods from Refrigerated & Shelved food, through Household and Toiletries to Beverages etc. Maggie wanted to buy fresh bread and milk every day, but felt that they had to wait too long and that they were being a nuisance.
In terms of things to do in the local area outside of Desert Springs, Vera has in fact about 30 restaurants and bars, some of them amongst the best in Andalucia, such as Terrazza Carmona and Juan Morenos’s. Just as close in the other direction are another 30 in Garrucha, specialising in the superb local seafood, exceptional ones include Escanez, El Rincon del Puerto, Almejero and Tikar. Also within 15 minutes is Villaricos Fishing Village with 14 restaurants and bars, including Don Tadeo’s and Esperanza. All of the named restaurants offer high quality cooking, but there are plenty of good quality family restaurants as well. Further, but still within 20 minutes, are Turre, Mojacar Village & Mojacar Playa with well over another 100 restaurants and bars between them.
Maggie points out that there was a music festival going on in Villaricos, making traffic quite heavy and leading them to avoid the coast. Villaricos lies at one end of the Almanzora coast, but in the other direction along the coast, equally accessible, there are lots of sand beaches and some 17 other good beach bars; our own kids loved the beaches and beach bars when they were young. It is also worth mentioning, that for children there is a modern and extensive Water Park on Vera Playa within 15 minutes. There are also Paseos Maritimos in Garrucha and Mojacar with several very good play areas.
Maggie is absolutely correct that there were maintenance issues with the villa. These were not acceptable and it was not to the level of presentation to which Desert Springs aspires. The fact that the faults were promptly and easily put right is all the more reason why they should have been dealt with prior to occupation. Maggie’s dissatisfaction was exacerbated by noisy neighbours and some harsh words between them. There was also an attack of flies coming from melons remaining in the fields after the harvest. These are normally controlled by spraying, it appears that one area was missed on this occasion; a problem that was subsequently attended to by local spraying.
We have written to Maggie to explain the above and have apologised for the matters where Desert Springs was at fault.

This was the first time my wife and I flew the Swedish winter for some weeks to relax and play golf. I took a good time to investigate different options since it was the first time my wife was on a golf trip so it had to be perfect. My choice fell on Desert Springs since they had a very informative homepage, the golf course looked interesting and in a good shape and almost all reviews were positive and especially regarding the condition of the golf course. When we arrived my expectations were fulfilled by margin. The golf course was in excellent shape, although a bit difficult since a miss of the fairway is a lost ball or a ball in a cactus or in rocks but after some rounds you learned the course and where to be aggressive or more conservative in your shots. The surroundings with the driving range, training area, restaurant, apartment was also perfect so this was one of our best vacation ever and we will definitely come back.
