If you want a beautiful, quiet French experience in a renovated farmhouse you should consider Maison D'Ulysse. We went in September when the weather was still warm enough to enjoy the enormous lap pool and to sit in the courtyard for a huge breakfast consisting of local cheeses, yogurt, and croissants. Smoked salmon, ham and homemade jam by Gauthier, one of the owners, were also available. From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable. Guy and Gauthier have completely remodeled the house with modern fittings with the occasional eclectic piece here and there. We were lucky to arrive when their homegrown tomatoes were in season and served in a delectable salad. Claire, the housekeeper, was a sweet, charming young woman who was accommodating in every way.
My daughter from London has been twice to Maison D'Ulysse and highly recommended we go as well. It's very close to the beautiful small town of Uzes, France, a lovely small town with a fabulous market twice a week. it's a great place to center a trip around visiting all the interesting other small towns, each unique in it's own way.
I would highly recommend staying at this wonderful, out of the way farmhouse and hope that we will return in the future!

Had a really relaxing and enjoyable stay at the charming Maison d'Ulysse. Such a beautiful and unique place in the idyllic and quiet French village of Baron. We felt immediately welcome and catered for when greeted by Claire, who was really friendly and attentive throughout our stay. We had the most memorable meal at the La Maison d'Uzes on her recommendation and she was very knowledgeable about the local sites of interest really helping us to make the most of our break. The room was clean, spacious and stylish. We particularly loved the peaceful gardens and the lovely courtyard where a delightful breakfast was served. Guy and Gauthier were the perfect, charming hosts, and have done an excellent job on the renovation of this enchanting building. We highly recommend Maison d'Ulysse for anyone seeking a tranquil, accommodating and attractive place to stay, and hope to visit again soon!

Our 4 night in La Maison d'Ulysse mid September were fabulous
We were staying in the new self contained apartment which was modern, spacious and very well equipped with all that we needed. The large balcony was great for pre dinner drinks and watching the sun go down. Our hosts were very accomodating, attentive and charming.
The very informative arrival talk on restaurants and interesting paces to see sound be listened to, this I failed to do and suffered the consequences!!!!!
Have already booked next year!

You will never stumble across this hotel by accident but you will miss a real gem if you pass it by.

If you're looking for a lovely authentic stay in the french countryside with peace and quiet to relax, this would be a good choice for you.

Gautier and Guy were both super. Spent time helping us to figure out places to visit in the region, showed us round the property and really made us welcome. Don't worry if you don't speak any french - they will still look after you.
Rooms are comfortable, breakfast good, only feedback is that I would have liked a fridge in the room.

we had a 4 night stay in La Maison d'Ulysee mid september; touring around with another couple & we therefore experienced two "rooms" ---the spacious & modern & very well equipped self-contained 'apartment' and our own 'suite'; firstly let me say the positives; Guy & Gauthier are charming & attentive & informative hosts----they couldn't have been more helpful; their delightful & ever-smiling [English] housekeeper Claire was similarly super-[she's a real asset chaps!]. The property is a renovated monastery & there has been no lack of effort & expense in updating this into a quirky & pleasant Boutique set-up. The gardens/pool/communal areas are interesting & relaxing; breakfasts were superb with home-made preserves, local fresh produce including nice selection of cold meats/fish, fresh fruit, yogurts etc etc.
Now -my negatives-[ & immediately I'd have to say the friends with whom we travelled probably won't agree with my comments here--they've already booked to return next year!]; our suite had no shower! now you may say--so what!? but I can't remember the last time I actually took a bath & certainly in my opinion in the south of France you need a cooling shower rather than a pedestal bath-[which was blooming difficult to get out of!]---so I was obliged to shower each morning down by the pool ; also, although rooomy, our suite was rather dingy----fine again in the height of summer but too dark with the greying autumnal skies. Some extra evening in house eating options would go down well Gauthier--rather than the one evening/week currently offered.
So--in summary---this is a 5star upmarket B&B but,if like me you prefer showering, make sure you avoid the 2x rooms that have bath only--[& G & G please make it clear on your website which these are?]

Room Tip: look out for the shower-free rooms

Dear Mr Finlay,

May we start by thanking you for making a contribution to our TripAdvisor page and hope that you and your wife enjoyed the rest of your time in France. It is of premier importance to us that all our guests have a comfortable stay, and we will always go above and beyond to ensure this.

We find it a shame that you were not happy with your suite, which as indicated on the Mr and Mrs Smith website (Šan elegant bathroom separated by a glass wall, with a roll-top bath and twin sinks dating from the 1930s) contains a bath and has no mention of a separate shower or shower room. These are also questions, for particular requirements, that can be asked to Mr. and Mrs. Smith or directly to us (phone or website) before a reservation is made.

The Devon & Devon roll top bath in the opinion of our past guests combines good looks and functionality, beauty and comfort coming together with attention to detail, the taps are completed with a long shower attachment for all guests who prefer to take a shower, and of course the bath has a special anti-slip base.

The sombre suite has been renovated to include many of the original raw materials and is finished with a beautiful wood burner and warm lighting for those cosy autumnal skies. Again it¹s a shame that it did not meet with your personal palate of requirements.

We have taken note of your points, and are glad that you enjoyed our welcome and hosting as well as the grounds, pool and large buffet breakfast.

Kindest Regards

Guy & Gauthier

We had such a lovely 2 days here. Gautier and Guy, and Claire were such wonderful hosts. We really couldn't have asked for more. Gorgeous, spacious room, stunning pool, fantastic food and lovely people. The house has been effortlessly converted into a chic and relaxing space. We'd definitely recommend staying here, and hopefully we'll make our stay longer next time! They also gave us a delicious pot of homemade jam when we left, which was such a sweet treat- also not to mention a nice, cool glass of wine on arrival! Have a great end to the summer Gautier, Guy and Claire.

My husband and I loved our stay at La Maison d'Ulysse. We were given a warm welcome by Guy, Gautier & Claire, the charming and very capable Housekeeper. Our suite was lovely, spacious and unusual with many original features. Breakfast was superb, beautifully presented and everything one could possibly want. I do think they need to decide whether they are a "boutique hotel" or simply a very upmarket B & B. We spent 3 nights there and Gautier only cooked dinner (very good indeed) on one night (a Wednesday). On the other 2 nights we had to go and find a restaurant elsewhere (the one they recommended was 17k from Baron and parking only available a very steep climb away from the restaurant). After a long drive down from the Cevennes that day, the last thing we needed was to have to get back into the car and drive yet more miles. They no longer recommend the restaurant close by in the village of Baron. A very basic salad lunch is available on request on the days when Gautier is not in command of the kitchen.
All in all, quite delightful, but they need to decide exactly what they are prepared to provide. We would certainly go back there.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Suite Fleur Dumas, which was lovely and very spacious.
