Owner description: Lulworth Castle stands majestically in extensive parkland at the heart of the Lulworth Estate, close to Lulworth Cove. Built in 1608 as a hunting lodge to entertain royalty,it was purchased together with an estate of 20 square miles, by Humphrey Weld in 1641. Today the Estate still remains in the ownership of the Weld Family. All but destroyed by fire in 1929 the Castle exterior has been restored by English Heritage while the interior has been consolidated providing a magnificent open plan space. Within its displays and exhibits, cellars and memorabilia discover the fascinating story of its past.Climb the tower for spectacular panoramic views of the Purbeck countryside and towards the Jurassic Coast - an experience not to be missed. St Mary's Chapel, in the Castle grounds, is historically significant being the first stand-alone Roman Catholic place of worship to be built after the Reformation. Inside soak up the atmosphere and tranquility of this special place. Please note that jousting no longer takes place at Lulworth Castle.

We went to Lulworth Castle and Park last month and, I must say, I was overawed by the place.
That being said, you have to take your time and look beyond what is infront of your face.
£3.00 for all day parking - bargain, £5.00 for entry into the Castle itself - very acceptable. Having also purchased a beautiful full colour glossy booklet about the place, for £1.00 -exceptional price and reading it in depth after, I was even more impressed.
Learning about all the different owner / occupiers, or should I say caretakers as that is how the present chap seems to refer to himself. (Sorry about the 'chap' bit, I couldn't remember the actual title of the gentleman :-) )
I found the upper, empty floor far more fascinating than the basement rooms that do have items in them, relevant to the original rooms purpose.
To see where supporting metal has melted in the heat of the fire; there is charred timbers in a few areas. I cannot really express how fascinated I was by the castle and it's previous owner / occupiers.
The grounds are impeccably kept. Yes, the Adventure playground area is a little tired but what do you want for £3.00 all day parking. It's free to wander the grounds and take advantage of said playground..
Having read one or two negative reviews, I think people need to open their eyes and look beyond what is directly under their noses. Read the history behind the blank walls. Oh, I just loved it!
I feel Lulworth Castle and Park is well worth a visit and I personally would not hesitate to go back again and again.

visited last sunday when only the park was open, paid £3 to park, no map or directions available, people wondering around lost, lots of signs saying closed to public so you couldnt get near the house. eventually found the play area which was not worth a squirt! a few noisy peacocks in a run down area, what a waste of time and money!

My friends got married at the castle. As an attraction there is not much to see as the castle has no upper floors. As a venue for a weddign it is perfect, you can see the sea from the grounds, the weather was amazing so perfect for frinking champayne on the lawn. The grounds are stunning. Well worth a look it there is something going on and for beautifull photos.

Having read some poor reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. Cost £5 each to get in which is fair enough considering how well kept everything is. Awesome view from the top and a nice easy staircase - even my 2 year old son managed it easily. Massive grounds and friendly staff, would highly recommend for a picnic for the family on a sunny day, as it's never crowded and even has free swing all on the lawn.
