We spent almost 3 weeks at Casa Seafever - and we keep coming back to this delightful small town and very welcoming B and B. Al and Karen have been helpful and accommodating, picking us up at the airport for a very reasonable fee We especially like the room that opens to the upstairs terrace - it's roomy, has lots of storage (we were there 3 weeks, remember) and nice closet and bath. Opening to the terrace we could leave the sliding doors open for the breeze. We also enjoyed relaxing on the terrace; we had many of our breakfasts there and even barbequed some fish we bought in the market. It was also a great place to watch the activity on the adjacent canal and hear music coming from the nearby hotel.
Casa Seafever is in a very good location, just a 10 minute or so walk to the main part of town where there are a variety of restaurants, fruit and vegetable markets and barbequed chicken you can take back for dinner. There are also several options for live music, souvenir shops and places to enjoy a libation while enjoying the lovely sunsets over the ocean. Be sure to take a water taxi to Colimila, the little town across the bay, where you can walk the cobbled stone streets and enjoy some seafood in a variety of restaurants. We'll definitely be back to Barra and to Casa Seafever .

My husband and I recently spent almost three weeks at Casa Sea Fever in Barra de Navidad. The Casa was everything it claimed to be. We spent two nights in a B&B room and the rest of the time in the two bedroom apartment. Everything was clean and in good working order. Karen and Al were welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed the homelike atmosphere. The two small dogs, cat and parrot just added to the homeliness. The pool, although small, was the perfect antidote to the afternoon heat. The Casa is located about a 15 minute walk from the downtown core of Barra. There were restaurants and a small grocery store even closer. We were comfortable walking around, even after dark. Barra is a wonderful, friendly small town with a wide variety of restaurants and bars, with lots of live music. There seems to be some sort of local festival every few weeks, which adds to the excitement.
I would recommend Casa Sea Fever for anyone looking for good quality accommodations in a lovely setting. Viva Mexico.

This was our first trip to Barra de Navidad, Mexico. Paradise is so much closer than you think! A short flight into Manzanillo and our host Alan was able to meet us at the airport and drive us the short ½ hour scenic drive to the Casa located on the canals in Barra. Once we got there, our hostess, Karen had a lovely welcome snack of a traditional Mexican favorite, handcut Pico de Gallo and tortilla chips. That and a refreshing drink were exactly the way to start our stay. We were lucky enough to stay in the Canal Room which opened out to the upper Palapa and overlooks the canal. This beautifully appointed room had air conditioning available but it was not necessary as the breezes cool your room perfectly at night. It, like all the rooms each have a full bath in suite, so you never feel like you have to share more than you’d like to. We were shown the other rooms available to guests which were equally lovely and the apartment with its own full kitchen available for rent.

We found that dining out in Barra is affordable, so even though we had a great cooking area in the upper Palapa, we mostly tried different local restaurants and bars. Yes, we even did sunset (time of day) at Sunset (bar), which arguably has the best margaritas in town.

Mornings were delightful. Alan and Karen put out a variety of fresh fruits, granola, and yoghurt each day, along with toasted bagels and English muffins for breakfast. The most difficult part about this time of day was to decide what to do. One afternoon Alan and Karen took us out on their boat and we enjoyed the sights by water. Another afternoon, Alan took Len out in the hills to explore the areas haciendas while Karen and I took in some shopping. Then there were the days we enjoyed reading and napping by the pool. The common areas on the main floor are comfortable and really reflect the owners diverse and exciting backgrounds.

I cannot forget to mention the most gracious of our hosts, Lobo the dog, Diego the cat and McIver the parrot. Our experience at Casa Seafever was restorative and relaxing, just like a newfound home away from home.

Room tip: All the rooms are great, but the Canal room opens directly onto the upper Palapa and offers lovely views.

We stayed at Casa Sea Fever in Barra de Navidad, in mid January of 2016 and our stay was more than perfect and the town of Barra is lovely & quaint. Alan & Karen are the most gracious & accommodating host & hostess, we were greeted and in our room upon arrival, they served us traditional Mexican appetizers that were Moy bien (very good) Our room was impeccably clean and well appointed on the upper floor adjacent to the terrace overlooking the canal. The common area terrace was a piece of paradise for relaxation where one can rest in the hammocks or barbeque your own meal, covered by a palapa with kitchen facilities, it offered everything one needed for peace & tranquility! Breakfast in the morning was a delight to share with our hosts and their animals, Lobo the dog, Diego the cat and McIvor the parrot. We loved the fact that their casa is dog friendly, as our friends brought their little dog along and they made him most welcome in their casa.
On the main floor there is another poolside terrace with a palapa and loungers, it was so peaceful there and one can dip in the pool to cool off and feel most comfortable with Alan & Karen in their own living space. The casa is very spacious and very well laid out to access our room on the upper floor.
They cooked us a delicious fish fry dinner poolside under the palapa as the sunset, all in all a wonderful stay at Casa Sea Fever, we will be returning again for a longer stay! Wendie & Will

Room tip: Request the room that is off of the terrace.

While I can understand the frustration of the previous poster as it can sometimes be challenging travelling with a large family group and a baby, my husband and I had different needs and expectations for our vacation and had a different experience at Casa Seafever last month. We spent a wonderful two weeks in a B&B room and when we return to Barra, would stay with Alan and Karen again. Casa Seafever is a beautiful, spacious, clean and well maintained house with lots of outdoor space for guests to enjoy. While a family group was also staying there at the time, there was plenty of room for all of us at the upstairs palapa patio where there were two sets of Mexican style tables and chair areas, two comfy hammocks and a variety of other seating. We enjoyed the pretty view of the canal and there was always a comfortable breeze to cool us down. The palapa amenities include a fridge, microwave, bar b q, hotplate, blender and coffeemaker all in good working order. There were pots, plates, cutlery, drinking glasses and everything we needed to prepare food or drink. There were no spices, cooking oils or anything of that nature. We intended to cook some meals but the restaurant prices were so reasonable for the two of us, we enjoyed having dinner out each night. There is a small library with a variety of books and games for guests to use.
We stayed in the spacious Canal room which had a screened sliding door out to the palapa patio. We kept the door open all night and enjoyed the lovely breezes. Unlike the guests in the interior of the house, we never felt the need for air conditioning. We enjoyed the comfortable king bed, the beautifully tiled bathroom, the large shower, lots of storage and a never ending supply of bath and beach towels. We did purchase more toilet paper and bar soap when the starter supply was used. Our room was cleaned once a week by the maid. There was a large t.v. but only a few channels in English. We didn't find the supply of hot water or water pressure an issue like the previous poster but did learn to check with the owners to make sure the washing machine wasn't on at the same time.
The clean pool was a great place to cool off after an outing or sunbathe on one of the four comfy loungers. There was a covered area for shade and a large table where we ate our breakfast of granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, bagels and good coffee. If all of the guests were at the pool at the same time, it would have been crowded and not as comfortable. When we wanted a bit of privacy, we strolled down the street and spent the afternoon at the beautiful pool of the Cabo Blanco Hotel where we were welcomed by a friendly staff and could stay as long as we wanted to if we ordered a drink or a snack (never any pressure and very reasonable prices).
As Alan mentions in the description of SeaFever, it is located in a safe neighborhood a 10-15 minute walk to town centre where stores and restaurants are. Good walking shoes or sandals are required for the uneven stone streets and a lack of lighting makes a flashlight important at night. We always appreciated the walk back after dinner and never encountered anything that made us feel unsafe. If you don't want to walk home, there is a convenient taxi stand in town with friendly drivers who will take you home for $3.00 Canadian including tip.
If you are first timers to Barra, Karen and Alan will guide you to the best restaurants, tell you where to catch the local bus and tell you all about the area. We were disappointed that there was no where to spend the day on the beach at Barra that had the amenities we wanted (umbrella table, good food and drink) due to the hurricane a few years ago, but we enjoyed the many bars and restaurants on the beach with gorgeous sunset views. We highly suggest spending a day on the beach in Melaque, La Manzanilla and Cuastecomates where you will find all the amenities and beautiful beach scenery. All of these beaches are close by and easy to get to by local bus. If you are adventurous travellers like us who like to get out and see the area and are looking for clean and well priced accommodation,we know that you will enjoy the special place that Barra is and have a great stay at CasaSeafeaver.

Room tip: The two B&B rooms on the interior of the house did not have windows to the outside. Canal room is best.
