Description: The Gurnards Head is a fabulous old inn looking out to the Atlantic, round the corner from the farming hamlet of Treen. Just 500 yards from the dramatic coastline, isolated, but within 15 minutes of Penzance and St Ives, this handsome hideout ticks every conceivable box. The sunshine is brought inside in the brightly decorated, comfortable dining room serving fresh, unbeatably good food from a menu that changes according to the catch of the day. Though the emphasis is on ease and honest enjoyment, theres nothing relaxed about the quality and attention to detail given to the food, drink and service. Lunch is chosen from a chalk board, while the evening introduces the la carte which usually features local steak and hazelnut-crusted Megrim Sole. The best seats are the window ones overlooking the fields and ocean beyond.

“All in all an excellent experience. Wholeheartedly recommended. We shall return”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Wife and daughter and I visited off spec at midday Sunday, Bank Holiday weekend, enquiring if we could possibly eat. I was greeted by smiling helpful bar staff, not overworked negatives that are all too often seen. We where shown to a large table, having been informed that that the table was booked as of 13:45. My first point of compliment. The menu was then delightful to view, with all three of us musing over a couple of choices each. The starter arrived in good time, and was delicious.
The main took a while longer, which my daughter queried with me. My response was that a healthy wait is a good sign in that the food is being prepared freshly rather than precooked and then warmed. What followed was fantastic. I had the Hake, which was superbly done. My wife had the pork and daughter the beef, both agreeing with my verdict.
The desserts too where fantastic.
All in all an excellent experience. Wholeheartedly recommended. We shall return.

“A mustard coloured gem”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

It's rare that I find it hard to choose from a menu because I want to try it all! Excellent local produce, beautifully presented and served by polite warm and welcoming staff. What more can you asked for? Well how about a selection of local ales and largers? They also provide accomodation which we will be booking the next time we are in the area.

“worth a detour”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

its a little bit out of the way, but absolutely worth it, this mustard monument nestled on the edge of the coast is a beacon for lovingly prepared food and imaginatively selected beers.
the atmosphere is low key, simple tables and no fancy service which is a perfect foil for the exciting menu.

“We love mustard”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

Possibly the brightest mustard yellow exterior we have ever seen. The huge white letters on the roof ensure that everyone knows the name of this pub/hotel as it can be seen from miles away on the coastal path. We dropped in for a drink of excellent ale, made a reservation for later in the week and loved our meals. Great service, very friendly bar staff, relaxed ambience and wonderful food.
Going to try the Felin Fach Griffin nearer home too

“Lovely gastro pub with good rooms”
Reviewed 16 August 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for one night in a thunderstorm.Food and service at dinner exceptionally good and our small double room just right- it was small but with sea view and nice touches. Breakfast excellent too apart from slightly brusque/ disinterested service.
