Hideaway Huts at Treworgey
Reviewed 11 September 2013

This beautiful converted shepherd's hut really exceeded our expectations and we had a wonderful five day stay during the last week of August. Nicely set aside from the rest of the farm/cottage complex, we felt as separate as we wanted to be from other humans and very much at peace, particularly in the evenings. The trio of horses in the adjecent field were a bonus for us as animal lovers, even though they did manage a midnight break-in into our enclosure on the first night of our stay - so maybe improved fencing wouldn't go amiss to help avoid similar fun and games in the future!

In terms of location, it was perfect for us - no more than half an hour from the attractions we wanted to see. If you visit, we'd recommend the nearby Monkey Sanctuary, the Cornish Orchards cider shop just down the road, the beaches at Lansallos and Looe Island off the coast of Looe. But there is plenty more besides and lots of good local walking for the adventurous.

Big thanks to Holly for doing such a great job of the hut. We will certainly be recommending the place to friends, and we may even visit again in the future.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post such a lovely review of and a great photo of the Shepherd’s Hut. It sounds like you really made the most of your stay here. We are sorry the horses were naughty and broke in to the garden, but thank you for letting us know! We will add fencing improvements to our list of jobs to do over the winter. We hope to welcome you again in the future when your neighbours may be sheep or goats, or perhaps the horses again!

Best wishes from
Holly and Andy

My boyfriend, his springer spaniel and I stayed here for a week at the beginning of July 2013 and, I have to say, we all loved it so much that we really didn't want to leave! The setting was absolutely perfect, with gorgeous views across the valley to the outskirts of Looe, and our closest neighbours were 3 horses and a nanny goat - can't ask for better than that! The hut itself was absolutely delightful, the furnishings were perfect for the setting and the small details like a wind-up radio and torch really made a difference. We loved having a barbecue using the firepit, but we were a little bit disappointed that we couldn't use the wood burner - the temperature didn't go below 28 degrees the whole time we were there, but we're definitely not going to complain about that!

This little hut was perfect as a base for further exploration of Cornwall, but we were equally happy to spend time just chilling out and reading in the tiny garden around the hut. Definitely go and check out the shop up at the farm, we bought some of the most delicious free range eggs we've ever had while we were there! The apple juice from the local orchards is also worth purchasing.

Alex and Jo were really welcoming and friendly, but were not "in our faces" the whole time - I think we also saw them a couple of times in the whole week we were there, but we knew that they weren't too far away should we have needed anything.

Words really don't do this place justice - I would just recommend it to anyone that wanted a few days or more of simplicity and tranquility in beautiful surroundings!

Thank you so much for your review of Hideaway Huts. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time in the Shepherd’s Hut and that the weather was so good for you too – we would be very glad to welcome you back at a cooler time of year so you can make use of the wood burner! We can say from experience that it makes an Autumn or Spring evening very cosy indeed!

We just loved the idea of a Shepherds Hut to stay in, as we have our own beach hut in Dorset which we love. This really is a fantastic place to stay - the hut itself just beautiful and nestled in a very quiet corner of the site (well.... complex of pretty , quaint cottages) Lots of lovely touches to make things extra special, access to the pool which is stunning and the mod cons of an WI FI info room and produce stall. The view from the hut was lovely and we were not overlooked at all - just by Harvey the horse in the field next to us! Highly recommend this beautiful 'glamping' spot.... and for those who'd rather have a few more home comforts close to hand, their cottages are stunning too.... we will be going back for sure.

The Shepherd's Hut was the perfect spot for my solo weekend trip to Cornwall. It had every amenity one could ask for superbly engineered into a tasteful (practically luxurious) and surprisingly spacious room, including a large and very comfortable bed, a well equipped 'kitchen,' a toasty wood burning stove and glorious views of fields and Looe beyond. The very large and modern 'bathroom' is only a short walk away and also has a wood burning stove, thick towels and even a small refrigerator. In comparison to a wide range of hotel, B&B and other 'glamping' experiences, my stay at the hut ranks as one of my most fun, unique and memorable travel experiences.

If you want to really get away from it all, Alec and Jo's hideaway hut is perfect. It was rainy and miserable when we stayed for 2 wonderful nights, but the woodburning stove and tiny cosy hut made it all the better.

They have thought of all the tiny details that make a holiday really memorable - although we were on our honeymoon so everything was fabulous the whole time despite the weather!!

GORGEOUS.

This really in a stunning place to stay. My wife had arranged this as a surprise for our first anniversary and neither of us were disappointed. We only wished we could have stayed at least one more night. The hut is superbly decorated and incredibly well-resourced, its got everything, and if it hasn't got something, you have access to all the trappings at the cottages which includes internet, board games, swimming pool, tennis court, mini-shop with decent priced local food). I personally loved living out my neadnerthal instincts making fire in the stove, though we didn't really need it, it was incredibly cosy having a fire burning in the corner. Really comfy mattress, and waking up to a beautiful valley and sunrise over the fields of wheat by the toilet was special.
This is an amazing place to stay, at £80/night you might think it a little steep for glorified camping, but this is far more memorable than an average B&B or hotel and much much nicer. A great experience. I would highly recommned this place, with the single caution that one night is no way near enough!

[Just in case the owner read this, our two suggestions to improve it: i) a hook for the top doorhatch so it stays open and ii) a little shelf for the far side bed]

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to post a Tripadvisor review. We are delighted that you so enjoyed your stay at our shepherd's hut and thank you for your suggestions.

Since your post we have added a hook for the top door so you can relax in bed and admire the view with the door opened right back on a lovely morning. We would love to put up a shelf beyond the bed too, but haven't yet found the perfect place to put it away from the window and where you wouldn't bump your head but hopefully we can find the right spot. In the meantime we have made more space on the shelves to the nearside of the bed to have an extra spot to rest your book or mug of coffee/glass of wine! Many thanks for your helpful comments and suggestions.

We hope to welcome you back soon!
Best wishes

My wife and I have just spent a long weekend here and thoroughly enjoyed every minute even when it rained! The hut is quite small but perfect for a few days and is beautifully decorated to give it that cosy country feel. The shower/toilet facilities are a short walk away but spacious and modern. We were a bit weary of the composting toilet to start with but it works well and doesn't smell at all! The view over the fields across to Looe is wonderful and the hut is in a quiet little field. It shares the same facilities as the other (very posh!) cottages so represents very good value for money. Cheaper than the local B&B's but with considerably more character. The owners were very friendly and full of good advice on where to go and what to do.
