We spent one glorious week at Casa Candiles. This was our first trip to Ixtapa as well as the first time we didn't stay at an all-inclusive resort. We were very happy with our choice. We arrived to a wonderful meal prepared by Roberto and a warm welcome. Our suite was immaculate, as was the entire property. We were very comfortable at Casa Candiles and in fact only left to go out for dinner each night in Ixtapa. It was a nice 15 minute walk and we felt completely safe at all times. We looked forward to our morning coffee and Roberto prepared a delicious breakfast every day. Attention to detail throughout our stay was amazing! Roberto's assistant Miguel is a wonderful and hardworking addition to Casa Candiles and could not do enough to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We would highly recommend staying at Casa Candiles. Thank you for a fantastic vacation Roberto and Miguel!

My husband and I just returned from my first trip to Mexico, and we could not have been more pleased with the hospitality offered by Roberto and Miguel at Casa Candiles. We booked this wonderful B&B based on the reviews here, and truly feel like we hit the jackpot! From the moment we arrived, we could tell that this place is particularly special. Roberto and Miguel met us outside at the curb when our taxi pulled up and ushered us into "Just Another Day in Paradise." The rooms are large and beautifully decorated with attention to detail paramount. We booked for four nights, but ended up extending our stay by one day just because we didn't want our time to end. Roberto and Miguel are so kind and catered to us above and beyond. We cannot say enough about our scrumptuous meals either. Do yourself a favor and book a dinner along with your reservation; by far the best dinner we had during our time here. The breakfasts are a feast for the eyes as well as the palate! The fresh juice, the excellent coffee, and the three to four courses will leave you satisfied until dinner. After spending time seeing the sights, snorkeling, and milling about the shopping areas, Casa Candiles was indeed an oasis to return to. We spent an entire day here just enjoying the refreshing pool and flora and fauna. Mission to relax was accomplished! The best part of this trip is that we came here to Casa Candiles as strangers, and we leave as friends. Thank you, Roberto, for all of your time and attention to us! WE LOVE THIS PLACE!

After an enjoyable but tiring trip along the coast from Puerto Vallarta, traveling by 3rd class bus and staying in cheap and cheerful basic hotels, Mardie and I arrived in Ixtapa ready for some "de luxe" time.

We had booked 3 nights at Casa Candiles after being seduced by their website and we were not disappointed. Casa Candiles and host Roberto, assisted by Miguel, is everything and more than was advertised.

Roberto is the consummate host, always there when you need him but not obtrusive-he also makes killer margueritas. His home is like a living art gallery but comfortable at the same time and furnished and decorated with impeccable taste. The tranquility and peace of the tropical garden and swimming pool make it the perfect spot to relax.

The 3 and 4 course breakfasts served in the garden are worth the price alone. Our only regret is that we hadn't booked any dinners. The other couple staying there had one dinner and raved about it. Please note: you have to book dinners at the time of your reservation; due to the shopping arrangements dinners can't be booked after you arrive.

The hotel has excellent security with in-suite safes and exterior security cameras. Roberto makes a point of staying up till the last guest is safely home in the evening.

We have stayed in many inns and B&Bs in England, USA and Europe and Casa Candiles has become our new favorite and certainly the best value for money.

Room Tip: I recommend room #1 as it has a lovely balcony overlooking the quiet street. The other two rooms lack a balcony.

We stayed at this location from January 13 to 20. The property is immaculate and very well appointed with attention to detail wherever you look, the owner Roberto and staff Miguel made us feel welcomed and at home the moment we arrived and throughout our stay.
The inn is located in a very nice area of Ixtapa approximately 10 minute walk from the downtown area.
The breakfast was truly impressive, we eat a plant based diet and were hoping Roberto could accommodate us.... Did he ever, not only was he able to customize his breakfasts to suit us, every morning was something new and very good... Having spoke to Roberto before we arrived he was not sure if he would be able to prepare plant based meals, I think he outdid himself. This shows what a great host and chef he is.
Without a doubt I would recommend this Inn for many reasons..
Thanks Roberto and Miguel for having made our vacation relaxing, quiet and comfortable..

Room Tip: If you do have dietary requirements, Roberto may be able to help accommodate you..

casa candiles, ixtapa mexico-- christmas 2013

like a christmas tree
not overly decorated
you can still see the green on the tree
but everything is perfect
so restful on your mind
and you'll never ever wanna leave

a treasure at every corner
a story in every picture
but most of all, i would say
flowers everywhere
the way nature meant it to be

zihuatanejo

yes--they don't know how to say no
and everything you want they'll give you if they can
it's a way of life where everything is shared
"mi casa es tu casa" they only know how to say yes

they're not forward, intrusive or sweetly nice
they respect your ground, they'll never cross your mind
and if you say "buenos dias" they'll turn around and smile
happy to meet you, "mi amigo", i hope you stay for a while

playa linda, ixtapa

the half moon was bright through the branches of the coconuts
from the distance i could hear the relentless pounding of the sea
the blue diamond light suffusing the distant sky
then an orange streak appeared on the clouds as they slept by

and far in the horizon the hidden clouds began to stir
and above fluffy balls floating white in the sky
everything of the night slowly disappearing from my eyes
the sea and the sky mirroring each other in disguise

hola, hola , it's such a beautiful day today

#33
santa clara de cobre

a sprawling town laid out on rolling hills
high on the cool mountains of michoacan
where you can taste the sweet dampness of the air
and hear the sound of the clanking copper wares

the footsteps of the spanish conquistadores
they still walk on the crooked cobblestones
and in the old church of thick walls you can touch
the religious fervor of centuries gone by

but i found the vibrant soul of this remote pueblo
in the face of a pretty young senorita
barely eighteen she wore a coat and a pair of boots
with a skin of copper and her eyes black as coal

shy like a butterfly she moved in and out of the way
never pushy she showed me the trinkets of souvenirs
with a precious smile that's not staring you in the eye
she breathed beauty not knowing the radiant beauty in her heart

solamente dios sabe si regresare
