Simply put, just not the same.
While the actual location in respect to the local area and grounds are very unique and beautiful, the amenities don't add up for the cost. We were very surprised and disappointed with the changes (all very accurately referenced by previous traveller 'Sandy' from Calgary in his December travel). We too chose this resort as our 'go-to' hotel and with sadness are seeking out another 'home away from home'. The hotel appears to have made a large shift in terms of their 'all inclusive' option which left us feeling like a liability. At the very least, the AI plan option, which does not come cheap!, should certainly include a ceasar salad. We have also seen a noticeable decline in beach service as well as a definite decline in maid service.
Should the latest management of this hotel seriously consider the reviews, especially of repeat guests, reinstate the prior inclusions as well as demonstrate a loyalty and level of respect for repeat guests, then we would return......Until then we would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful staff we have met over the years and wish them and their families (you know who you are) all the very best of good health and happiness......

My wife and I celebrated what has become our annual 3 week homecoming to Las Brisas this January. In previous reviews I described the unique features of the resort, while others have detailed many of the operational aspects. In short, we love the place. We find the staff to be absolutely remarkable. They are incredible people with warm personalities who are willing to make you feel special and welcome. There is a sense of open space that surrounds and embraces you with quiet comfort. The sparse, elegant, and artistic decoration is somehow timeless and not just because it has not changed in many years. The architect created something truly magical in Las Brisas.

However, the resort is not perfect. The elevators were slow and somewhat unreliable, particularly the important one to the beach. Internet in our room was very, very erratic. Several machines in the (important to us) exercise room were not functioning properly. These should be fixed!

We go All Inclusive. The management modified the policy this year. We were concerned at first, but quickly discovered how much we liked what they had done. We actually had more choices and experiences and always found first-class food that met our needs and desires. Meals were fun and interesting. Congratulations on being bold! I do know that some others do not agree, and that is fine with me.

This is a resort for mature people who want to relax and enjoy life while entertaining themselves. It is not for those who need to be entertained or who are challenged by mobility. The combination of wonderful service and a remarkable setting is a winning combination.
We met a number of people from a variety of backgrounds and had excellent conversations.

Can't wait to rebook for next January!

Room Tip: You do not want to be on the 19th floor right above the lobby bar. It is fine to either side but no...

We stayed at Las Brisas from Jan. 15-29, 2014 and had a wonderful time. We travelled WestJet and were very happy with the service. We were met promptly at the airport and the reps were available throughout the vacation to answer any questions we had. They also accompanied us back to the airport when it was time to go home. The resort itself was great! What stood out for us was the excellent service and the stunning views! The food was the best we have ever had in an AI. It took us a little while to get used to the idea of signing a receipt for all our meals and drinks, but once we got used to that, it was fine. We probably tipped more than we have in the past, but felt that the service warranted it. Take advantage of the a la carte dinners. They are fantastic! Also, if you do not care for buffets, you have the option to order from a menu. What more could you want?
We had a room on the 19th floor and the view was spectacular. The balconies are very big and very private with a hammock to relax in! The bed was comfortable, the internet was fast and constant, the bathroom spacious but a little dark and the walk in shower was wonderful. We never ran out of hot water. We loved the quiet atmosphere of this resort but would have to agree with others that it is geared for adults, not children. There are quite a few stairs, but for us that was good. That way we didn't feel quite so guilty about eating and drinking more than we usually do.
The private beach was beautiful! Plenty of loungers and shade and the servers were excellent! The ocean was a bit rough when we were there, but the life guards were excellent. They made sure everyone knew how to safely navigate the waves. The pools were quiet and clean. We never had a problem finding a good place to relax and were never feeling neglected.
We loved The area of Ixtapa and Zihua . There is something for everyone here. Ixtapa is very much a tourist area. It is beautiful, clean and wonderful to stroll through. The town of Zihuatenejo is fascinating. The markets are fun to go through, the people are friendly and interesting and there are numerous small cafés to stop and refresh yourself. We always felt very safe as there is a large naval base by the main beach as well as a very evident police force.
We don't normally go to the same place twice, but if we did, we would definitely come back to Las Brisas Ixtapa. After a few days the staff felt like family, the food was delicious, the atmosphere relaxing and the views stunning!

Stunning views and sunsets from every room in this hotel. Large, private balconies with a hammock. The rooms are large with king bed, sitting area, stocked fridge and lots of storage space. There is a flat screen t.v. and Movies can be purchased for a fee. Washrooms are well equipped and have a large walk in shower with lots of hot water. There is air conditioning in the room but you need to be aggressive with your settings to get results. The ceiling fan helps. We had free WIFI but reception was hit and miss.

This is the perfect resort for relaxing. Tourists here are mostly seniors and it is very quiet here. We loved that. No booming music by the pools or the beach. No entertainment committee running around. Sit back, let them bring you a drink and soak in the sun and silence. Lots of mature vegetation and birdlife to watch. Never a problem to find some shade and their beach towels are huge and thick. The beach is private to the hotel and has lots of seats and umbrellas. The pools are high up on the hill so the views from them is stunning also. The 3 pools are 5 feet deep and one is for adults only. There is also a small wading pool for kids although I don't think this resort is suitable for children.

The a la carte restaurants are excellent. Fantastic ambiance, food and service. You are allowed 3 nights per week....use them! The breakfast is a buffet and has lots to offer: egg cooking station, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, pastries etc. You won't see toast or bacon but if you ask for it they'll gladly get it for you. The view from the breakfast restaurant is stunning. They have three theme nights per week for dinners also. One is on the beach, one on the patio and one in the garden. They are buffet style, don't require reservations and were delicious. One of these theme nights includes the typical tropical dance show. Every meal we had was wonderful. We loved the extended meal times...no rushing! Breakfast is available until noon..lunch until 5 or 6pm and dinner until 11 or 12 pm.

We travelled with Air Canada vacations and took the all inclusive option. Because not everyone there is all inclusive, you have to sign a bill for all of your meals and drinks. This is a bit annoying after a while and really wish they would adopt the usual bracelet practice. Check your bills carefully, occasionally we had extra items on our bills and even though we weren't paying, we wondered if it was honest mistakes or a way to get a drink or something to someone not on the plan. Also, not every item on the menus is covered under the Las Brisas plan and this is not always clear or obvious so read the small print and ask if it's covered if you are not sure. Tips are also covered under the AI plan so we tipped extra cash to the individual if we felt it was warranted but you do feel kind of awkward signing a bill and not leaving a tip. The service overall is excellent. Drinks are brought to you promptly at the pool and on the beach in buckets of ice.

Ixtapa has a lot of modern areas and also a flea market. You can get there by taxi for $6. Zihuatanejo is an old fishing village with a large flea market and lots of shopping. This old village has a lot of character and is worth a visit. Taxi will cost you only $9.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel if you want to rest and rejuvenate and don't care about a lot of activities and excitement. I have never come home so relaxed. A gorgeous spot with perfect weather (30 degrees c. everyday), and great food. Enjoy!!

Room Tip: They have penthouse suites which they will gladly show you that have their own pool, a livingroom, b...

Travelled with Air Canada vacations. Wonderful hotel and setting. The restaurants are very very good and all of the staff are truly A+. The turtle release is something not to be missed. This happens twice per week and is very special. The beach and pool service is so nice. I have stayed at higher rated resorts that have had service far inferior to this hotel. Internet in the room was also terrific, no problem whatsoever. if you encounter any problems just mention this to the staff or your Air Canada representative and it will be addressed. We will be returning.
The all inclusive option is great, you just have to go through the inclusions and exclusions when you arrive. It's not a problem and I feel the choices are really good. The wine was very good compared to other all inclusives.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues please address this and book your room accordingly. There are lots of s...

My wife and I travelled to this hotel for the 4th time last week. The thing that stands out the most to us is the awesome staff team at Las Brisas; there were many of the same faces, which is a pretty good indicator that this must be a great place to work. Also, many of the staff remembered us by name, and considering they meet numerous people over a year, this is a great welcoming attribute of the people at this resort. Although there have been some changes, particularly with the all-inclusive plan, it is still a great place to vacation. Other reviews have mentioned the restrictions on the menus at the a la carte restaurants, as well as the a la cartes being limited to 3 per week, so I won't repeat that here. However, despite the restrictions, the food options are still plentiful, and we certainly did not go hungry. In addition, the quality of the food is quite good and tasty. Recent reviews have mentioned that the beach service was somewhat slow; however, this appears to be the result of the beach restaurant area being renovated. It was clear that the waiters were working as hard and as fast as they could, considering they had to climb at least 100 stairs to the alternative restaurant every time they had a food order, and they did this multiple times each day. We still received great service, even if it took a bit longer at times. A special shout out to Sergio, Klein, Margarito, and Armando, who despite looking physically exhausted, still delivered great service with a smile every time. It is still the only all-inclusive resort that we have been to that delivers bottled beer in ice buckets, that are continually refreshed, right to our beach chairs. So if it takes a little longer, no big deal, as we are on vacation and not particularly in any hurry anyways. The private beach area is still one of the nicest we have been to, and the lifeguards are very attentive, especially when the crazy waves come; they are always watching to make sure the guests are safe and well-informed of what to expect. We were lucky to see the releasing of the sea turtles twice during our stay, and even got a bonus sighting of whales in the ocean one of the mornings. The pool area was much improved this time around, as the resort has strategically cut down some of the trees to provide a beautiful view of the beach and ocean areas; even though we spend the majority of our time at the beach, it was much more inviting to attend the pool area, than on our previous stays, as there was also a nice breeze provide as a result of this clearing. The lobby bar is a great place to chill and watch the sunset, or to have a few drinks after dinner. Another big shout out to Cirillio, who goes above and beyond to provide awesome service with a dance and a smile. The rooms are comfortable and all offer a spectacular ocean view, which many other resorts charge a premium for, another bonus to this hotel. We read some of the reviews regarding signing the bills, despite having the all-inclusive, but it is still way better than wearing wrist bands, which we hate; so, we don't mind waiting for a bill - again, in no hurry on vacation. Overall, it was another a great stay at Las Brisas; we are sure the hotel will address the recent reviews concerning the food and beverage issues, as they appear always eager to please, in our experience.
