after about 20 years of faithful pilgrimages to our home away from home. it stops this year. we arrived to a new and inferior all inclusive plan. i discussed this with the food and beverage manager, she was unmoving and unmoved. the theme nights and the bellavista's food weren't up to any standard i've experienced.
the staff were unchanged and spectacular. warm and helpful as always. but management couldn't care less.
so now begins a new search for a place as wonderful as las brisas ixtapa once was! i hope management misses the 7 guests this year, 4 guests last year &C &C!

This hotel continues to be one of our favourites. The grounds are stunning and one certainly does not need to take the van to the pool. For heavens sake, the walk along the path to the pool through the trees is truly lovely.
The staff are friendly and accommodating. When we got to the airport on the way home, we realized we had left our wedding bands in the room safe. Because our plane was delayed due to mechanical problems we had enough time to hop a cab back to the hotel. The concierge, Martezza immediately took us up to our room to see if they were there. They were not. She called security then we went back to the lobby till security showed up. After some discussion in Spanish they asked us to describe them, the security guard opened her hand and there they were. We were very relieved thanks to Martezza.
The beach is quiet, no vendors hawking their wares, no blaring music, no beach volleyball or other noisy activities. Just peace and quiet. The beach staff are excellent, especially Armando. The breakfast restaurant, The Bella Vista has all sorts of breakfast foods to choose from and the staff are great there too, especially Gonzolo and Itzel.
The stairs are no big deal, they add to the charm of the hotel. You get a bit of exercise. We didn't mind that they changed the rules about the a la carte restaurant either. Can't eat such big meals every night anyway. We also didn't mind the theme nights, they were kind of fun. The staff were really into it.
The hotel was full with a Mexican Tourist Convention but the service was in no way compromised because of it. We look forward to going back next year.

Went back to Las Brisas for a second time, i was there in 2012. There are some things about this hotel that are so amazing but they have changed there all inclusive formula are not for the better.

ROOMS,
Rooms are still real nice and clean. The view is amazing as long as you are higher than the 14th floor. The only negative point is that twice our room was not made before 4:30 pm. So after coming from a day of beach or excursions we could not relax and had to call down to get it done. It's not the end of the world but...

FACILITIES,
Amazing view from everywhere which is a high point for this hotel. The beach is private and clean, just watch out for some big waves sometimes. The lobby had a great view. The only negative point is that the chairs on the outer deck are not very comfortable.

STAFF
Amazing people very friendly and fun, Rosario in the lobby bar was my favourite. Jose-Manuel, Marco, Jesus, and Martin at the Las Brisas 2 are great. The life guard who I forget his name was very friendly and great to talk to.

FOOD
Now this is where this hotel has lost a lot of points with me. When we were there 2 years ago you could go to a la carte restos every night. Now for a week stay only 3. The menu at Las Brisas 2 is almost half extras. We went to Portofino one night and really enjoyed it.
They now have what they called "Theme Nights". The first 2 buffets we went to were probably the worst food I've ever eaten in any trip I've ever been on, including a 3 1/2 star in Cuba!
Basically no selection, the food was cold and just plain nasty. We were supposed to get a night on the beach "Pirate Night" but I was given 2 different excuses why it was moved to the eighteenth floor. One was the waves were too big, and the other was there were too many people. So the place was practically empty and the next two nights had parties on the beach, we felt cheated. I think It had something to do with the fact that there was a government convention at the hotel which was more important than the regular clients. Thats the way we felt anyway. The last buffet we went to was a little better.

ALL INCLUSIVE
At this hotel the meaning should be changed to meal plan. I have never seen so many extras in my life. This is not an all inclusive or least AI I have ever seen. I really think they should just raise the price a little and we would stop being told "sorry that's extra". The prices of the extras are ridiculous. Overcooked tiny lobster for 40$!!!

THE POSITIVES.
You can't beat the weather, 32 degrees and sunny everyday. Zihuatanejo is fun to visit especially the beach area to have a cold one. Private beach, no hassles from vendors. Always chairs on the beach plenty of room. Service at the beach is great. The views are great. The staff is super friendly. Breakfast buffet is good. Exursions are a little limited but still pretty good.

All in all i have mixed feelings about going back, I know that they have not been doing the buffet thing very long but they have to get their act together on this because for me it a deal breaker. Apparently I was told that Air Canada is transferring the flights to the cheaper Rouge air line, so no more entertainment Screens on board and more cramped space without dropping the price. From Montreal no more direct flights, it took us 12 hrs to get back, thats a little much for me.

Cheers.

Room Tip: Get Rooms above the 15th if you can and Make your dinner reservations before you leave.

We usually stay on Playa Blanca at our friends' condo. This is our 4th visit to the area but this time, their booking agent had accidentally rented out the condo for part of our stay. We four were compelled to find other lodging. We thought it would be fun to move over to Las Brisas and enjoy the "All Inclusive" experience. Our disappointment began in the first room we were assigned because it had a terrible smell. We were given another room immediately and it didn't seem to smell as bad. But, the smell arrived shortly. We think it was a sewer problem as we could hear water gurgling in the shower drain when no water was running. Our fan above the bed made the sound of a helicopter and was frighteningly loose. Part of the housing was missing. We notified the maid and some repair was done but it never looked right. The staff at Las Brisas was very nice and accommodating but the food was a disappointment. We had eaten such amazing, authentic Mexican food at restaurants on Playa Blanca and the food at the various restaurants in Las Brisas seemed like cafeteria food in comparison. We also felt the pools and the beach were too far away from our rooms. We didn't enjoy climbing all the stairs just to get to the elevator or having to be bussed from the pools to the main lobby. All in all, we won't choose Las Brisas again.

Room Tip: Don't have one. We had two rooms with a funny smell.

Simply put, just not the same.
While the actual location in respect to the local area and grounds are very unique and beautiful, the amenities don't add up for the cost. We were very surprised and disappointed with the changes (all very accurately referenced by previous traveller 'Sandy' from Calgary in his December travel). We too chose this resort as our 'go-to' hotel and with sadness are seeking out another 'home away from home'. The hotel appears to have made a large shift in terms of their 'all inclusive' option which left us feeling like a liability. At the very least, the AI plan option, which does not come cheap!, should certainly include a ceasar salad. We have also seen a noticeable decline in beach service as well as a definite decline in maid service.
Should the latest management of this hotel seriously consider the reviews, especially of repeat guests, reinstate the prior inclusions as well as demonstrate a loyalty and level of respect for repeat guests, then we would return......Until then we would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful staff we have met over the years and wish them and their families (you know who you are) all the very best of good health and happiness......
