“Pacifica Master Sands”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2011

Just back from Ixtapa. Nine Family members spent 10 days at this resort and there were good and bad experiences. First off when we arrived we were told we had no rooms. Thru RCI we had booked a Masters Sands Ste., a Sands Studio, Sands 1 BR, and a Club Studio. We notified the resort we would not be arriving until Nov. 2 (booked from Oct. 29 to Nov. 12) and received email confirmation that it was no problem. When we arrived, our rooms were not available. We were eventually (2 hours later) assigned rooms, however not rooms we booked.
We were able to get the Agua 2 BR which is beautiful for 3 nights, and a Jr. Sands 1 BR. We did get our Master Sands Ste. three days later, but it meant moving which is no small task with 5 adults and a 1.5 yr old. Bart at Reception (who worked very hard to accommodate us) also applied a discount for our All Inclusive Fees for the first three days. So travellers beware, this resort has many many different categories in various sections (specially the Sands, Club and Golf Rooms), and I would definitely confirm with the resort (in writing) just exactly what you can expect to stay in. Some units are pretty dated, most are very nice. I notice RCI has amended their web site (in the last 10 days) to show very vague room descriptions and amenities for this resort which is a more honest approach to this resort.

Other than the above, if you are lucky enough to get a great room, such as the Master Sands 2 BR ste, it truly is marvelous. Open air concept, with lovely mini pool, incredible views, and very spacious. The other rooms (2 Jr. Sands 1 Br) were certainly adequate with nice views
from large balconies, with jacuzzis.

Many, many thanks to Felix (who seems to be the Resorts PR guy) for all his assistance which included reservations at the ala carte's. Perfecto who was our Concierge, was extraordinary.
Very efficient, friendly and had us in our suite, and then moved us on Sat., and ultimately checked out and arranged for our taxi to the airport in expert fashion.

The restauants are all very good. The buffet at Tulipanes (with beach setting) offers something for everyone, and their Seafood Lunch which I think was on Wednesday was excellent. Monday Night is Mexican Night, with the best Mariachi Band in Mexico! The ala cartes are all great. El Faro offers a fantastic view, great service, live entertainment, and excellent food.
Bugambilias was incredible. Caesar Salad made out our table was the best, as were the Spanish Coffees. We enjoyed the entrees, and between the eight of us, everyone had a different dish and all were excellent. Our other experience was at the Moon Bar for dinner on Wednesday Night which is Barbeque Night. Terrific (recommended by Felix)! Maria at the Moon Bar arranged for a table on the beach in the sand - great food, especially the ribs! Best Spanish Coffees!

Our beach servers, Abel, Carlos, and Jose Manuel were fantastic! Keeping eight adults and one infant supplied with drinks and food is no easy task but served us with ease and we wanted for nothing. Great drinks, and the food was great (Beach menu outstanding)! The beach is lovely, water was warm, and we all enjoyed immensely. The Pools on the beach are very very nice.

You will not be disappointed with this resort. It does have many, many stairs, but there are shuttles that take to whereever you need to go within the resort, as well as the gondola (which by the way is closed for most of Saturdays for servicing).

Three of our guys went fishing and caught a sailfish, dorado, and many tuna. Lorenzo on the beach handled the arrangements. Some also went snorkeling by Ixtapa Island which they enjoyed. The little town of Ixtapa is very clean, with all the shopping requirements, restaurants etc. you may need. The Marina area is also lovely at night with great bars and restaurants.

Room Tip: If travelling from Canada or US, opt for Jr. Sands, Master Sands or Agua and you'll not be disap...

Views are spectacular, service the friendliest I've ever experienced. Food at the buffet was O K , but the speciality resturants were excellent, although a little expensive.
Almost everyone speaks or understands English so that wasn't a problem. The beaches were a little crowded and not as pretty as some on the east coast, but nice.
This is the first reveiw I have ever written, and I travel quite a bit.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view.

A friend has a timeshere here, and I've stayed there for the past three years (and looking forward to going again this year).
I've stayed in the Sands Suite and the Imperial Sands Suite Plus.
The Sands Suite is like a 2BR apartment. Would be great for 4-6 people who get along well.
The Imperial Sands Suite Plus is actually 2 BR apts (that connect on the decks) and a studio apt upstairs. It's great for groups that want to be together but not on top of each other.
The resort was built up over several years, so there can be a huge difference in quality and age in the units. Typically, the closer to the beach, the older they are. Where we stay is pushing 20 years, but still nice and well maintained.

The meal plans are a great deal! We paid about $280 per adult last year for the "Meal Plan": breakfast plus lunch or dinner, all beverages/bar. You have your choice of 3 restaurants most days and can trade up to the fancy restaurant on the hill one time. If you're a really big eater the "All Enclusive" plan adds on the third meal and beach snacks.

My husband and I traveled here and had a wonderful time. The accommodations are very Mexican, in that, they are not as 'Westernized" as some of the other party cities like Cancun. The staff is very friendly and helfpful, but make sure you either know Spanish or have a translation dictionary handy. The drinks and food are great, specifically Bouganvilla's, athough we did the all-inclusive package and at times, the buffet items were hit or miss (even though there was a huge variety). There were a lot of actiivities and children, so being that my husband and I dont have children and wanted to relax, things got a big loud and hectic. If you like lots of activitiies though, this is a perfect place. Beware of the hills, as the resort is essentially built on the side of a cliff so either take the shuttle service offered throughout the resort or you'll be walking hundreds of steps. Our unit had a hottub on the balcony which was awesome and gave us a nice view of the beach which was clean with nice soft sand. We also got a chance to go deep sea fishing, which although I was terribly sea sick, my husband caught a 400+lb marlin. I forget the gentleman's name, but he is one of the vendors along the beach and is very friendly and will take care of you if you choose to go on one his excursions. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and if it were not for the expensive airfare (we flew from east coast USA), we'd certainly return and wouldnt mind bringing along more famly or friends. Also we ventured out into Zihuatanejo and it did seem a bit sketchy, but did have some friendly shop owners. Use common sense when going out into town and dont bring valuables or lots of cash.

Room Tip: Reserve a Junior Sands Plus Suite or higher

Loma del Mar,

althought the hotel is not directly located at the beach (so no view on the ocean), this charming and wonderful boutique hotel should be considered in your choice!

When we arrived, we were guided to our 'room' which actually was not a room but a real suite with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and plenty of space to just feel at home. The interior decoration is simply beautiful and takes local art pieces into the rooms.

The service is extremely friendly and designated (however sometimes a little bit naiv and not well trained) and when you plan a day at the beach, they bring you there with an electric golf car - as it is right across the golf area - and serve you even lunch or beverage in the seperated but not private area at the beach.

But instead of hanging out at the beach, you might simply relax at the great (!) pool area with its even better Thalasso Spa area. The outdoor Thalasso Spa is a lot of fun with its different water spa applications and the Spa zone itself is simply beautiful.

The hotel does count with 2 restaurants, which we both experienced various times and which are both really fantastic. As we do like the Argentine kitchen, we preferred in the end the Barbeque restaurant, which is a couple of minutes ride up to the hill outside the hotel area and which has an amazing view over the bay of Ixtapa.

So well done, congrats on this really wonderful boutique hotel, you are managing in Ixtapa. We will surely return and relax again.

My wife and I went to Zihuatanejo for a week in June. We were met at the airport by a man named Jorge A. Ceballos Magnon. He immediately started to tell us of all the hotspots in Ixtapa and Zihua. After a few minutes of rambling on he promised us two free full day snorkeling trips, two dinners at a romantic resteraunt named Lapampa, and pay for our taxi to and from the airport and $100 cash only if we would sit through a 90 minute presentation at Loma Del Mar.
We set the appt up for the next morning. Jorge and another man came and picked us up at our hotel the next morning. Brought us directly to the Loma Del Mar. Once we were there two men attempted to sell us a time share that they swore was not a time share.
After Two and a half hours We told them that the answer was no several times. They said that we were getting nothing that we were promised. I guess you only get free gifts if you sign a $35000 morgage over five years just to use a "Time Share" 2-3 weeks a year and pay a $650 a week maintainence fee for the weeks used.
We had to walk back to the main road and get a taxi back to our hotel. My wife was terribly upset and felt as if we had been held against our will and overly pressured into purchasing something that we did not want.
Do not get suckered in at the airport or anywhere else around Ixtapa or Zihua. Just pay for your own taxis, meals, and tours. These people are frauds and who knows if you will ever receive the free gifts that they promise you. They certainly didnt give us a thing but indeed wasted about 3hrs of our vacation.
Outside of this horrible experience, My wife and I loved everything about this lost paradise Zihuatanejo.
