We had a lovely weekend away for my birthday. Very romantic. The views of the country side out of the main bedroom window was just amazing. We spent a day in Matlock as it was just a few minutes down the road. We also had a lovely meal at the pub just up the road from the cottage where we had a brilliant meal and not to far to stager back if you've had a few. There was loads of attention to detail upon arrival we were given a bottle of wine and some luxury crisps which were very much needed after a week a work and driving to the cottage. This is a real gem and we will definitely be coming back at some point.

“Relaxing Stay in Serenity ”
Reviewed 29 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Super standard of accommodation in a lovely renovated 400 year old cottage on the southern edge of England's best national park.

Surrounded by so many wonderful attractions this working farm is a sanctuary to visit with Natalie and her family very welcoming.

We will definitely be returning for years to come.

Thank you for the review and your lovely comments. Yes due to our rural location unfortunately sat nav cannot be relied on so you're right, it is best to print off the detailed directions which I provide to every guest. Thanks again

Where do I start. Paid in full before arrival and was greeted eventually 5 hrs later by the owner with "sorry I don't have you booked in". It wasn't until I actually showed the land lady the receipt that she said oh sorry my head is all over the place and are the beds made up?? No heating working and the place was freezing we have three children under 6 and they went around with their jackets on. The land lady never made any contact with us and when she saw us departing after 2 days after a horrible stay she ran inside so not as to make contact with us. Entrance to the property is through an old barn and the property has adjoining doors to the owners family home which is attached to the glorified barn we stayed in. We felt like unwanted guests. We were greeted by dogs who made the faeces right outside the door. Complete rip off £180 for 2 nights, you would get a lovely hotel for the same price.

I am so sorry that you had such an horrendous stay at the cottage, that you couldn't bring yourself to come and speak to me about your issues/concerns before departing, but instead have gone out of your way to post this review.

My husband and I both work in addition to running the cottage so our approach, which we find works very well, has always been one of providing a relaxed and hassle-free environment, always providing our guests with a keysafe code to let themselves in on arrival should no one be available at the time and ensuring that our guests are aware that we are just next door, should they need us (as stated in the advertisement) but that they won't be bothered or talked to, unless they choose to be.

Before your departure I spoke to the adult male in the party who was packing the car. Instead of, as you say "running inside", I actually asked him if everything had been alright during the stay and he said that it had. He gave no indication that there had been any issues or problems.

The property is 1600 years old and yes the entrance to the cottage is through an old barn and yes we do have adjoining doors to our part of the house which are permanently locked (again all stated in the cottage advertisement on the website). The cottage is situated on a farm and yes we do have dogs x3 and farm dogs x2 and unfortunately we cannot always predict where the dogs will defecate but we do our utmost to clear away the faeces.

I do apologise for the unsettling mix up on arrival but in all the years that we have been holiday cottage managers this is the first time that this type of confusion has occurred, which at the time I apologised profusely for and you all seemed so nice and told me that "it wasn't a problem" which I was relieved about. It is clear to me now that you didn't feel this way whatsoever. It was unfortunate that there was a problem with our electric fire which again usually works well and we have never had any reported problems. However, it was extremely warm during your stay (August) so I'm not sure about the comment that "the place was freezing".

I'm sorry that you had such an awful time at Owslow Cottage, however, it is a shame that you also felt it necessary to leave the cottage in an awful state that my cleaner actually made a comment that this was one of the worst states that she had seen it left in, so thank you for that.

A lovely pretty cottage in a good location. We loved all the little extras and how accomodating they were to our requests- even got to feed the llamas. Will hopefully return in the future.

The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. The welcome package was lovely too. We found the cottage very easily and it was nicely located to many of the great places we wished to visit. When the weather was bad it was nice to chill inside and enjoy the view! would love to book again.

Liked best: I especially loved the fact we were on a working farm and could see all the animals
Liked least: If I was being very picky then I would have loved a little more room when cooking in the kitchen. Work surface space was limited but did not affect our stay in any way
