Travelled to EDSS on Jan 8 and spent a very enjoyable two weeks at the EDSS.
This was our first time there and we are glad that we went.We are Exotic Club Members
as we bought in at the Eldorado Royal Castias Suites, five years ago.We thought we would try a different resort this time around and were very happy that we went to EDSS.
Upon arrival in our Loomas Lincoln Navigator we were greated by Carlos and Lilly at the front lobby with cold wine and a fresh wipe.I cannot say enough about Carlos and Lilly as they went out of their way to please us and to help us at any time of the day.
We booked in at a Ocean front suite but got upgraded at no charge to a Swim up bottom floor room in the 3900 block. We were located right across from the bar.
The room was very nice, with a bar fridge with beer, juice and pop in it.Very comfortable
king bed.In our room was a jaquzzi tub in the corner of the room.
Restarunts were good except for the Mexican as we do not care for that type of food.
If we did not like something on the menu we got the waiter to change it and they did as we asked. If we wanted more meat for example we asked for it and they did not hesitate to bring what we wanted.
This resort was just the right size to walk to any restaurant for dinner .
The bars were spread around the resort so you did not have far to go for a drink as that is why you are on vacation.
We upgraded our timeshare so on the last four days we spent it in the Presidential
Suite .We had a Butler named Julio and my wife is still missing you today Julio.
We had our own pool and bar stocked with what we wanted to drink and the list of options goes on and on.
We met some wonderful people from all across the world
Mel and Dot from England
Sam and Lynnl from South Dakota
Hi to everyone else that we met .

We are missing the EDSS
The service was great, every place except the Mexican as we did not have great service there.
We also experienced the Hells Angels and any dealings that I had with them was great they acted very respectable and were very polite to us .
We never had any trouble with anything going missing like some people did.I never heard anyone have any trouble the whole two weeks we were there.I did hear one couple complain ,but you can never keep everybody happy.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me and I will be glad to answer them as best as I can.
I forgot to add that the dress code was not enforced. We got dressed up every night that we went out as it is what we like to do when we are on vacation.
Happy Holidays to anyone lucky enough to be able to go there in the days ahead.

Had an issue with the resort that we booked with so we were relocated to this little bit of paradise..
Must apologize for the tardy review...
Yasmin was incredible and I will always remember the compassion and honest concern she had for our issues...without her incredible concern and compassion regarding our move we would have come home to Canada.
This resort is amazing...Fernando was our concierge and we so look forward to him coming to our home to be able to show appreciation for all of his efforts!
The entire staff at this unique resort will cater to your every need...Sandra at the spa (along with her husband) is the best! Dario at the lunch seaside buffet who is so great and taking english lessons is awesome! The bartenders ..Luis of course (sure missed u when u left!) Lucy on the beach...and ur best friend who kept everything so clean..
We never intentionally booked in here...but what a treat...
Great food....service only lacked one very busy night and hope that was one of those days for the waiter that we requested that didn't remember us and told us the same jokes all night long....left without eating but no big deal because everything else was fabulous.
We loved the service more than anything and anyone wanting to spend a few extra bucks for excellent service...this is the place to go.
Lots of super special treats and service thank-you!
We are now members of the Exotic Club and so look forward to our next holiday!
If you need further info...let us know

My wife and I just returned from a week at EDSS. I am not going to go into great detail as I found that most of the other reviews are quite accurate. Just leave out the people that give this place a bad review as they must have their heads up their ...
We stayed in a swim up suite and really enjoyed the balcony/pool for a few days. The beach beds are plentiful and we managed to get a prime spot each day we wanted one. A reviewer posted that the Royale was better and I would have to disagree as the Royale is much larger and the food was not as good and the beach beds were few and far between for the amount of guests. We liked the intimate feeling of the EDSS. The beach isn't great due to the "whales" and shallow water so if bobbing in the ocean is your thing you will be disappointed. The snorkeling is better than most mexico resorts. If you like to snorkel take a $12 trip down to Akumal beach as right of the beach there a lots of fish and TURTLES! The new gym is great. The food is excellent for an AI resort. The Asian place has awesome sushi. The only bad thing about some of the food would be that the item wouldn't be exactly like it was described on the menu. We also liked how close the EDSS is to Tulum Coba and a visit to the monkey sanctuary at The Jungle Place. We rented a car and visited all three in one day which was a lot cheaper and we got to go at our own pace. I would highly recommend a stay at the EDSS if you want an adult only trouble free quiet and warm getaway!

I'd be happy to answer any questions!

My wife and I are just back from our second stay at EDSS (Jan 8 to 22), a year almost exactly to the day from our first visit. We found this vacation was even better than our first one, largely due to a series of relatively small improvements throughout the resort. I won’t go into all the major things we love about the place that have been accurately covered in many other reviews. You know, the same old, same old at El Dorado Seaside: Fantastically friendly and helpful staff. Exceptionally good food, beautifully presented in all restaurants. Lush, wonderfully maintained grounds. Laid-back, hassle-free luxury (no wristbands, tons of beach towels). Tasteful, comfortable rooms (we went with a swim-up suite - great idea).
Now, onto the new stuff we enjoyed:
• Tennis court resurfaced, with on-site pro, Alejandro, who is great
• Many more loungers and beach beds (and building more) to combat the nasty habit of one couple “reserving” both for the whole day).
• Redecorated Mexican restaurant
• Much improved coffee
• Brand new gym (not that I’d use it) but lots of people did.
• Comfortable outdoor furniture groupings near the main bar and spa pool bar
• Much wider entertainment variety including a terrific female duo at the spa pool on Friday nights (you gotta hear them play “Me and Bobby McGee”!)
Probably the only 2 disappointments were somewhat sketchy weather the first week which I suspect is not the hotel’s fault and the Mexican BBQ which wasn’t all that Mexican.
If you aren’t going there on a package deal with transportation provided, we would highly recommend Loams Travel for a small shuttle rather than the bigger buses that stop at several hotels – likely reduces travel time by 30 minutes or more as EDSS is way down the coast from Cancun. (Hurray for plans to build an international airport at Tulum!).
We ventured out twice – cabbing it to nearby Akumal, a wonderful little village with a swell beach, shops and restaurants and taking the all-inclusive tour to Xel-ha, again through Lomas, for a great day of snorkelling and such.
Finally, a big, big shout-out to Raul, a sweet man who may very well be the best bartender in the world!
Will we go back? I’d bet my last peso on it.

Sometimes you have to sit back and look at the overall picture and in this case fantastic.
i have never been served by such excellent staff in the traditional spanish, portugal holidays, they have alot to learn from mexico.
i have also never been to such a clean hotel, if the restaurants were fully booked then i would have taken a table in the toilet it was that clean.
Of course you could find small things to complain about, some complain about the pools being cold, i for one prefer that, once you get in you soon get used to it and its refreshing, we went to sensatori last year and the pools were like hot baths.
Facts. no kids....premium drinks........fantastic food........fantastic staff.....extremely clean......good entertainment........plenty of sunshine.......
My only negative would possibly be...hit and miss...if you had noisy neighbours could be a problem as the rooms are not all that soundproofed, we heard next door making love most nights ( only jealous). Only other thing that got to me was...Why do americans shout, they are so loud!!!!!
final note, nothing can be all things to all people but this place comes pretty close.
final final note, you have to vist xel-ha, best trip i have ever been on....

Myself and my partner stayed at the EDSS for two weeks over the new year period. We booked with First Choice because of their discriptions of the resort. Luxury rooms and adults only with the emphasis on Couples, honeymooners, weddings.
whilst we had a nice holiday it was not without its problems and due to the very expensive price tag i cant rate it higher. Although the resort has five stars i would be very genorous to say it was four star and the rooms 3.5.
i had read loads of reviews before i went and was also on the forums. this is what i found to be true during or stay.
First Room. was at the back of the resort which on arrival i liked as i thought it would be quiet. first impressions. Arriving at our block 36 it had a very strong smell of sewerage. Then we went into the room it had a very strong horrible smell of damp. The room its self was a decent size but was just a bog standard room. i would rate it 3.5 stars, It had a fair sized balcony but just looked onto trees making the room dark. we did complain about the smell and was given a ioniser to get rid of the damp. we only had it a day as other people had also complained and wanted it. so the smell didnt go away. We didnt have room service due to the smell. All my clothes smelt of the room and by the third day my eyeshadow and blusher powder didnt work as it was damp.Because of this i never felt clean.(hot water for the shower was hit and miss) The resort offers 24hour room service, our young single neibours came in and partyed at 5am and ordered room service at six every morning. the walls were thin and it was like they were in our room. it kept us up three mornings before first choice moved us.
2nd Room Block 40. was identical but although it still had a damp smell it was no where near as bad as the other room. the balcony was above the trees and let light into the room. it felt like a different holiday. if you keep the jaccusi plug down it also stopped the sewerage smell.
Things people said in reveiws about the rooms,
Smell of damp. true
Rubber child wetting protector on mattress. true room 1 not room 2.
No fitted sheets. true.
Sheets dont tuck under. true
Dark Rooms. true
hit and miss with hot water. true. Room 2 gave out altogether half way through my partners shower and i had to pass him cups of water to get the suds off. I must say i did enjoy that and found it very funny:)
the resort.
It is small and freindly, but not to small, the whole place is very nice. the grounds are well maintained and the overall feel is very laid back and relaxed. if you dont like a big resort this is the place for you. The main bar area is lovely as are all the restaurants. They all have a different feel.
The beach area you will already know about, It only covers a small area, the other part is not beach at all and is cut off by a wall.We saw rays and barracudas there. Signs ask you not to go over the wall. There is no where on this resort where the sea comes past your thigh. Some people have reveiwed it as ugly ,some as lovely, My opinion is its some where inbetween. Its quite nice.
The pools. We didnt use the main pool as it was very small, it catered for about 20 people max. we used the lap pool which had five beds each side. it was lovely and relaxing and was easier to get a place. We went in peak season so we soon learnt you had to put your towel down before eight or it was a struggle to find a bed. the ones by the proper beach were gone by seven so we only went there one day. At this resort you can have as many towels as you like which is lovely but the down side is some abused this and reserved more than one bed and then didnt sit on them. Nearing the end of our second week this wasnt such a problem. i appreciate it was at full capacity but i think they do need more beds. All in all once you have reserved your spot the days were lovely and relaxing and the weather was fab, who could ask for more.
The Restaurants/food
All the restaurants have a different feel to them. I enjoyed them all. They were small and inviting and i always felt i was having a night out rather than grabbing food in a buffet. The food on average was good and very well presented. The service at night, i found to be timed just right. Reveiws stated long waits, We did not experience this at night but we do like to take time when having a meal. We did have problems at breakfast where we waited three quarters of an hour for two fried eggs!! They do have a help yourself buffet in a morning which i recomend. We were led to beleive there was a dress code that meant men should wear a shirt with a collar. This was not the case and people wore baseball caps, trainers, shorts and the large group (i thought about 50) of male hells angels wore what they wanted!! People seemed to make more of an effort in the italian but mainly the dress code was not up held.
Bars.Night life there is one main bar, it had a good atmosphere but when a convention of hells angels turned up smoking drugs at the bar some people found this intimidating. I didnt understand why they had chose this resort other than to think it wasnt sold to them as a couples resort like it was to us. I liked this bar, there is another small bar that is mainly used when you are waiting to be paged for your meal at the italian.
The entertainment was the best i have had in any resort i have been to. it was of a good quality and didnt repeat itself in the second week. the band who played on new years eve were outstanding, playing upto date music. if you enjoy your nights out on holiday I think you would like it here. Everynight was great. As its small and freindly you also bump into people for a chat at the bar which is great. the drinks were good, my only gripe is plastic cups. i dont like them, but if you ask for a glass you get one. they washed the cups by hand in grubby water when they were busy and re-use throw away plastic cups. it seemed dodgy to me but we didnt have any stomache problems at all.
Staff. the reviews say the staff are brilliant and cant do enough for you. Its true. The staff make this resort .
Reviews that talk about rooms flooding and clothes ruined. True. the rooms are damp and whilst we were there someones room flooded from above and went into their room and also flooded into their wardrobe onto all their clothes. the staff sent their clothes to be cleaned.
Stealing. This does seem to be a problem, we met someone whos safe was broken into and everything taken. This would be easy to do. our patio door lock didnt work and could be opened from the outside and the safe uses a key, staff told us all keys were the same. we also spoke to someone who had had things moved from their draws. Luckly we did not .
All in all it was a great holiday but wasnt the luxury resort i expected..

My wife and I went to EDSS in Feb 2010. I meant to leave a detailed review immediately after returning, but got busy, and neglected it until looking for a vacation again this year.

We enjoy the all inclusive scene, and have stayed in a few places in Cancun and Puerto Vallarta so far. EDSS is my favorite thus far.

Likes:
-"Perfect" size - not too small, lots of things to do, but not so big that you couldn't make friends quickly over the course of your trip
-Beds on the beach - genius
-Meals were spectacularly good, honestly..not for an AI..for a restaurant in a decent size city. I'd go a lot of this places for dinner, in the states, and enjoy it
-Uber friendly staff
-Great selection of premium liquor
-Excellent night-time entertainment -- lot of variety, and a good time was had by all
-NO KIDS (YIPEE!)

Dislikes are really minor gripes:
-Beer selection in minifridge could be a little better
-Beds on the beach can be a little tough to get if you are like us and sleep in a little late every day
-Beach was rocky - not "typical Cancun"

We had one problem with our room--the phone didn't work. We called for maintenance and they didn't show up as promised, the next day it didn't work either, and the problem required a room change. I got ahold of a manager and to their credit they responded quickly, upgraded our room, and I was able to negotiate 2 free massages for our trouble.

There is an all-nude resort adjoining this one that you can visit if you feel free. There's no pressure to do so, and you'd never know it was there if you didn't ask--but you can get a free pass to go over there if you want. Warning -- some bells you can't unring, and some things you can't unsee. They're not exactly bikini models over there.
