My colleagues and I have been in Puerto for 6 weeks and have enjoyed The Hippo under the management of the previous owner, Bill Belair. We loved the service and atmosphere at the Hippo and would spend hours there hanging out, eating and drinking and relaxing (spending quite a bit of money). Angel and Alejandro always took such good care of us whenever we were there, which was at least 3 nights a week. NOW, however, Bill has sold the business to some new guy who seems to be drunk, and is certainly RUDE and belligerent. He was so rude to us and all we did was come in to eat, watch a movie on our laptop and hang out. He wanted to watch the World Cup and made rude comments the entire time we were sitting there (which didn't end up being long). He never even said he was the owner and you never would have guessed by the way he was behaving to loyal patrons of his bar. He told us the table we were sitting at was reserved, but there was no sign so we asked Angel because we knew Angel (he had waited on us for 6 weeks) and just thought the new owner was another patron because he never introduced himself as such. He threatened us when we asked Angel saying, "If you ever doubt my word again..." but he didn't finish and the woman he was with was antagonistic saying "there's an internet cafe down the street or a Starbucks in Playa if you want to go there." That's the only thing they were right about. I would rather walk on my knees all the way to Playa to ANYWHERE else than to EVER go back to the Hippo in Puerto again. We won't go back unless the previous or another owner does.
