“Amazing wedding and stay for all at the dreams PA”
Reviewed 31 January 2010

We are a couple (30 y old) and we travel south every year, sometimes, two times a year. We got engaged in Mexico and decided to get married there this year. After a long research we choose the DPA for our wedding and trip with our family and friends. It is not easy choosing for everyone else so we were nervous that everyone would be happy about their trip.

We got there on Saturday Jan, 9th for two weeks and the family arrived on wednesday for one week. We appreciated this because we had time to settle before they arrive and time after to relax, for our honeymoon. I cant say enough good things about this place.

This is the best resort we ever stayed in so far. Location, food, drinks, rooms, service, service, service and snorkeling!

Location. The marina is a safe and nice place to go so you don t have to stay ion the resort all the time. Furthermore, when you walk out of the gated community, you can go to every nice spot in 20 minutes by collectivos (local bus) They will take you to Tulum, playa del carmen, xel ha, cenotes and much more. So many things to see and so close.

Room: They were nice and clean and we had a amazing view of the ocean. The ocean view can be a little more noisy then the marina view. We also choose the priviledge club on the 7th floor and liked the private bar. Our family stayed in the 3 story building and they had a nice view of the lagoon and it was very quiet. The room service is great! So is the mini bar... The only thing is that the upgrades are quite expensive.

Drinks, Everyone enjoy the drinks in nice glasses too, we liked the mimosa in the morning and the pina coladas in the afternoon. The house wine was drinkable which is not always the case in all inclusive.

Food. sushis, italien, grill, seafood they were all great but our favorite was the mexican, we spent so much time being treated like royalty there, cafe flambes and all! My father is a very picky eater and he said the food was great so...

The beach is small but the resort is small too so there is enough room for everyone, the snorkeling is amazing by the rocks right in front of the hotel. We also took scuba diving lessons(certified) and tehy were very professionnal , We got lucky and did our second dive in a cenote nearby.

We had an accident , when the family arrive and had to go to the hospital. Everyone took care of my fiance very weel. They were very professional and helpful. Then we had an amazing wedding by the ocean and again, everyone was fantastic. After those events everyone knew us of course and greeted us with nice comments along the way. I dont know how so many great individuals could work at the same place.

I could go on and on about this resort and Mexico (our third time there!) but ill just say that you can tgo wong by choosing the dpa for any kind of trip,( we had babies to couple to elders). We will certainly be back for our anniversaries. Cant wait.

Many thanks to Jacy, Ulise, Jennifer, manuel, Fabricio, martin...everyone for making our stay memorable, it was : our pleasure!

My wife and I stayed here with a couple of friends for two weeks and we loved every minute of it! This hotel is probably the best all-inclusive resort I have been to yet. It has a big ocean facing side that is perfect for families, including a kids center and multiple snack centers. Then on the back side of the hotel (marina facing) you have a secondary adult only section where you can hang out when you want to get away from all the rowdy kids. Perfect!

There are 5 restaurants on site with a nice variety of food to choose from. Our favorite was the Italian a la carte - awesome! The rooms are clean and we absolutely loved the hammocks and have been missing them on every trip since.

The resort is also located close to a small marina town where you can go out for dinner if you decide you want a change of appetite. By the marina you can also swim with the dolphins.

The only potential downside would be that the beach is kind of small and the water is filled with coral, so make sure you have some water shoes. I got a chunk of it stuck in my foot, which wasn´t pleasant.

We just returned yesterday from a 7 night stay at Dreams Puerto Aventuras. We had an amazing time. We thought the food and service were especially excellent.

Check-in: Smooth, efficient, and professional. We arrived around 1:00 p.m. and were able to check-in despite the fact that normal check-in time is not until 3:00 p.m.

Rooms: Our room (#431) was one of the smaller rooms with two double-beds. There was not any dresser/drawer space. I wish I had more hangers to make up for this. However, we simply used the other bed to lay out our clothes. Still the room was very comfortable just not the beautiful image you see on the brochures/website. Also, the room always felt a bit moist and musty but this is to be expected with how humid it was down there. Also, the hallways are open air which means that the air conditioners in the rooms run constantly trying to cool and remove humidity. The fourth floor was very quiet...which was not the case for friends who stayed on the second floor (where the theater, lobby, and disco are located). The room was always clean. Housekeeping obviously came several times a day and kept our mini-bar fully stocked at all times. We had a great view of the adult's pool from our balcony.

Beach: Small and a bit rocky but very nice. Never too crowded. Excellent drink service on the beach. Warm water with lots of friendly fish.

Pools: Large and very clean. We spent our time at the adults pool - since the main pool was always crowded with families and activities. Lots of chairs in either shade or sun as you would choose. Jacuzzis at both pools. Excellent drink service with swim up bars at both pools.

Food: For breakfast, there are two buffet options. The main buffet was large with a lot of selection. The second buffet (located in El Patio) was smaller but still had an omellette bar and plenty of selection. We preferred the smaller buffet since it was not crowded at all. It however was not air conditioned and could be warm if sitting along the windows in the sun. We also ordered room service for breakfast a good bit. The egg white vegetable omellette was AMAZING.
For lunch, there were again two restaurant options. The main buffet opened at 12:30pm and had a lot of selection. I am NOT a buffet person so we didn't eat here much. They did have a nice salad bar though. The second restaurant was the SeaSide Grill, which was a la carte and opened earlier than the buffet. We ate lunch here most days. They had a lot of selection and included several standard sandwhiches (hamburgers, pulled pork, steak sandwich, club sandwich, BLT, etc.). They also had lunch entrees...but we didn't try them. Appetizers were great with ceasar salads, shrimp cocktail, etc. In addition to the two restaurants, we also visited the pool-side snack bar which offered hamburgers (which were very good), hot dogs, chips & salsa.
For dinner, there was the buffet again (which we never ate at for dinner). Additionally, there were 4 a la carte restaurants.
El Patio (the Mexican restaurant) was our least favorite. However, it was still good. The atmosphere was beautiful with lanterns hanging from the ceiling.
Portofino (the Italian restaurant) was our favorite. The Caprese Salad was AMAZING. The fillet mignion and the chicken (with cheese and spinach) were our favorite entrees. We also really enjoyed the mushroom risotto and ordered it in addition to our entrees since there was not a large amount of starch served with the entree. House wines are pretty good too.
Oceana (the seafood restaurant) did not have as much selection as we would have liked. We had hoped for clams, mussles, etc. However the entrees we got (crab cakes and tuna steak) were great.
Seaside Restaurant (the steakhouse) was really good also. There were no vegetarian or fish options on their dinner menu. It was strictly beef and ribs - which was fine with us! The steaks were all good. My husband also enjoyed the ribs - however, I did not care for the bbq sauce. They offered escargot as an appetizer, which was nice.
Additionally, there was again the opton for room service. Room service had sandwiches (all good), pizzas (not so good), pastas, kids favorites, etc. They were prompt. We ordered room service 5 times and never waited more than 30 minutes. Also, there was Gohan (the sushi restaurant). This was a great atmosphere overlooking the main pool area. The sushi was good - although we are not big sushi eaters.

Bars: Great service at all bars. Really enjoyed the Barracuda bar, which was on the rocky cliff-side of the beach. It was never crowded. Loved that there were swings to sit on and look out over the surf. Lots of brandname liquors - must specify when ordering. Beers include corona, corona light, bud, bud light, negro golden, and negro madella (dark beer).

Shows: Most were cheesy but the Fire and Water show is very worth your time! Most people seemed to enjoy the entertainment team (although we didn't participate in much).

Service: The service was top-notch! We never wanted for anything...day or night. Everyone was very helpful and attentive!

We will definitely go back!

Drean Puerta Adventuras is nothing but a hotel that has drinks and food included. Very disappointing, in NO way is this place a 6 golden apple. We have stayed at other resorts in Rivera Maya and loved them, except for here. There hardly any beach, the water is full of coral, really no place to walk or swim. This resorts sits in a little town surrounded by condos and hotels. The service was horrible and some workers were just out right rude. If you have any intention on staying here do your research, there are many other resorts there that are worth going to, NOT THIS PLACE!!!

I recently returned from a trip to Dreams Puerto Aventuras with my wife. Overall, it was a very nice stay. Apple Vacations (wouldn't use them again) rated the Hotel 6 Golden Apple (their highest ranking). It was more like 5 Apple (4 stars...not 5) Here are my thoughts:

Check - In/ Front Desk - 1 Star: The rooms were not ready on time. We arrived at 11:00 am and waited 5 hours before we could occupy our rooms. No room was available for changing clothes, so, we had to drag our luggage into the bathroom to change. No big deal, but it was a bit of a hassle. The front desk was not very helpful nor pleasant regarding being late to have the rooms available. More than a bit disappointing. I noticed Trainees at the desk, regularly, the front desk staff may be fairly new.

Hotel Property - 4 Stars: The Hotel property, itself, is fairly small. It is bordered by the harbor and the ocean. Everything was fairly easy to access and there were no long walks to anywhere on the property which was nice. There is a Spa and a small workout facility. Both were nice, but nothing to rave about...average at best. The lobby has been clearly updated and is quite nice. There is plenty of comfortable seating in the lobby area to enjoy a drink, relax, etc.

The grounds were very nice and extremely clean. The washrooms were always very clean and tidy (they seemed to clean them about 12 times a day and you often had to shoo a female staff member out of the men's room before use which was a bit annoying). The outdoor tables were always wiped down and clean. Someone was constantly sweeping the walkways around the pool and beach areas. There was never any visibile clutter anywhere. Very nice.

Even though the Hotel was almost filled to capacity, you never felt overly crowded or overwhelmed by large numbers of people. The overall Hotel property seemed to be the right size given the number of guests.

Service - 5 Stars: This is where the Hotel really shines. The service at this Hotel (outside of the front desk) was truly fantastic. So many "yes, of course, Senor" and "My Pleasure, Senor"...I lost count. All areas would recieve a grade of excellent, in my book. I will explain more in later sections of my review.

Pools - 3 Stars: There are 2 pools at this resort. There is a seperate Adult Pool on the side of the Hotel facing the harbor and a second pool right next to the beach on the back side of the property. Both pools were fairly small and the seating was limited. If you are a "sit by the pool" type, please keep this in mind and get there before 7:30 am for a chair at the main pool... The Adult pool is off in it's own section of the property, and while quiet, is far away from the food and beach. Now, it has it's own swim up bar and the wait staff will bring you lunch (limited menu), but it is not convenient if you want to sit down for lunch at the Seaside Grille or move to the beach/ocean. As well, it's location so close to the hotel does block the morning sun for a good period of time.

The main pool is also a bit small and the seating area is very limited. Chairs are plentiful on the beach, but if sitting by the pool is your thing, you may be disappointed. The hot tubs are not particularly hot, but they are quite large which is nice. Overall, the resort is not configured very well when it comes to pool and poolside space. There is simply not enough room for all who would want to sit by the main pool area. Also, similar to the Adult pool, one side of the main pool area is completely shaded by about 1:30-2:00 in the afternoon. Just not very well thought out.

The service around the pool was excellent and quite rapid. The waitresses did a great job and the bar never seemed to be too crowded to the point it impeaded poolside service. There were almost always two or three bartenders at the main swim up bar, and at least two on the walk-up side. You never had to wait more than a minute or so. Very good service.

Beach - 3 Stars: The main beach area is a bit small, as well. However, there is more room futher away from the hotel for those who prefer something a bit more seculded. The beach, itself, is very clean and tidy. It's a tight area and not as much room to spread out as some other resorts in Riviera Maya. The water is shielded by a breakfront and the waves are not much of a problem unless it is very windy. The ocean floor is rocky and I would advise bringing water-shoes. Snorkeling out in front of the property is OK and there are certainly some fish to see.

Food (limited menu) and beverage are available at the beach as well. My advice is do not order food at the beach. As a simple courtesy to others around you, eat at the Seaside Grille (about 20 paces from the beach) or at the grill station by the main pool (also about 20 paces from the beach). The reason being is that the Seagulls are ravenous at the beach. Any person who eats down there is swarmed (literally) by gulls. Of course, you and your beach neighbors will be pooped on, at will. Not to mention the incessant screaching of the gulls is not exactly the peaceful beach experience I was looking for. I am suprised they even serve food on the beach, given the annoyance. Nothing like a truckload of bird droppings on you, your towel and everything else to spoil your day. AS A COURTESY, PLEASE DONT ORDER FOOD ON THE BEACH.

Food - 5 Stars++: By far, this was the best food I have ever had at an all-inclusive in Mexico (been to 6 total). There are 5 Restaurants to choose from: Portifino (Italian/Steakhouse), El Patio (Mexican), Sushi, Seafood and the Seaside Grille (right next to the beach). In addition, there is the World Cafe (buffet) that is open for breakfast and dinner.

My recommendation would be to try them all. We preferred the Italian and the Seafood, but they were all good. The buffet was suprisingly good. I was very very suprised at how good the food was a the buffet. We certainly could have eaten at the Buffet (World Cafe) each night and been very happy. Also, the portion size at the seperate restaurants was sometimes on the small side, but never be shy about ordering a second entree or additional sides, as you are always greeted with "my pleasure" by the wait staff. Having read some of the other reviews of the food, I would add: my wife is the pickiest (non-vegetarian) eater I have ever met. She absolutely loved the food. I think that says it all!!

All the restaurants open for dinner at 6:30. Try and get there around 6:15 and you will never have to wait. I noticed they were seating people at Portofino between 6:00 and 6:15. We never had to wait in line to eat at any point in our trip. One of the most impressive things about the 6 spots to dine was the service and appearance of the wait staff. They were always dressed in tuxeedo-type white shirts with vests, bow-ties and black pants. No Hawaiian print shirts, cheezy outfits, shorts, etc. The staff looked sharp and was excellent.

Portofino and the Seafood restaurant both required the men to wear long pants. The Seafood spot was adults-only. A nice touch if you want a more formal feel. The Mexican, Sushi, Buffet and Seaside Grille were a bit more casual. We did sit outside on the beach at the Mexican place, El Patio. That was very nice, but a bit chilly later in the eveing. Dress appropriately in winter time. I would recommend long pants and a long-sleeved shirt/light sweater to sit outside, especially on the beach (it is January...).

The lunchtime food is very good. I would highly recommend the burgers off of the grill at lunch and, also, the Seaside Grille was a great way to get out of the sun and relax by the pool and beach for a half hour or so.

Liquor - some people complained about not having premium brands. Here's my advice: whatever your drink of choice, just ask what type they carry. They have plenty of good booze and beer. I made a list:

Corona (also in mini fridge in room)
Corona Lite
Bud Lite
Bud
Modelo (not available at beach...only on tap in glasses...unless you tip well)

Johnny Walker Red
Cutty Sark
Jack Daniels
Southern Comfort
Absolut
Stolichnaya
Smirnoff
Beefeater
Tanguerey
Kahlua
Cuervo
Sauza
Numer of very good Mexican tequillas
Bacardi
Malibu
Captain Morgan
And a bunch more...

YOU JUST NEED TO ASK SO YOU DON'T END UP WITH BLAT VODKA!! (yes that is a brand...yuck)

I would not drink the house brands with all the above being available...you just need to ask and be specific.

Wine - Wine is available from the bar during the day. Check to see what they have. I'm not sure it's the finest vintages. Wine is also available at the Seaside Grille for lunch. It's not listed on the menu, but just ask. They will be happy to bring it to you at no charge. For dinner, there is a charge for nicer wines. The hotel gives guests discount coupons to purchase these wines, but they are still expensive by US standards. If you want to drink for free, stick with the cocktails or beer at dinner. No charge. Otherwise, there is a fairly large selection of wines available.

Rooms - 4 Stars: The rooms were modern and updated. They were large and fairly well appointed. THE BEDS WERE VERY COMFORTABLE (which is not always the case in Mexico). The king bed was a poster-type and was quite attractive. There was not much dresser space (only one drawer!). Most of the clothes had to fit into the closet. There was a good amount of hanging space and 3 cubiciles to store clothing, etc. The safe was large enough to fit my 15" laptop and all our other valuables. Nothing was missing or stolen. No high speed internet in rooms, but a few computers in business center. No wi-fi. The room service came a bit late in the day (during siesta time), but was quite good. There is a robe and slippers for 2 in each room. All the rooms had nice balconies (except the garden level). We had a deluxe marina view which overlooked the adult pool...very nice. The bathrooms are spacious, but to echo comments from others, the shower situation is a bit strange. They have about 1/4 of what normally a shower curtain would cover blocked off with a glass panel. The other 3/4 is simply open. About 20% of your shower water does end up on a slippery marble floor. Not very safe for older folks or those with young children. Someone else recommended bringing a shower curtain. At first, that sounded ridiculous, but after my stay, a $5.00 curtain from Target could have easily been hung on the clothesline inside the shower and made things much less messy. Should have listened to that tip!

Room service was good. They do have a limited menu of both food and drink (couldn't get my Corona lites). It took about a half hour before room service came around. However, the buffet stays open until 11:00 pm and you can get food and beverages until then. The "disco" (not much of a disco...more of a bar with lots of nice big screen TVs) stays open until 1:00 am and has warm appetizers and plenty of things to drink for your last few waking hours.

Side Note - The disco was a great place to watch the AFC/NFC championship games. On another note, they even put a 20 foot screen up on the beach and broadcasted the Saints/Vikings game on the beach. It was great to watch down oceanside. Lots of fun. If you are headed there for Superbowl time, I'm sure they will rig up the same thing. Great huge clear picture!! Very nice.

Strange Note - One of the large glass panels that encompass the balconies fell from the top floor and crashed down close to one of the walkways inside the resort. No one was hurt, but it was especially disconcerting to my wife and I who were sitting in the lobby about 20 feet away from where it happened. Given that it happened last week, I'm sure all the balconies have been triple checked. But, stange, nonetheless.

Overall, the stay was very very nice. Apple had it over-rated, but given the price, it should have been obvious. What I am trying to say is that this Hotel was a fantastic bargain for us and we would definitely return. The service and food are unmatched, in my opinion, and the rooms were very nice (less the shower thing). I would recommend to anyone...couple or family.

We just returned from our 6 night stay at this resort and all I can say is "Amazing". We booked through Apple Vacations and flew on Aero Mexico. Aero Mexico is great to fly...ALL drinks are free! Upon our arrival in Cancun we were quickly taken via bus to Dreams. We have traveled to this area many times and know to book a driect transfer to avoid stopping at all the resorts along the way. Our driver stopped at the local 7-Eleven to allow us to pick up our beer for the hour and fifteen minute trip. We had booked Garden View on the Marina side and when we got there, to our delight, we had been upgraded to a Ocean View room...all three rooms! They were beautiful. The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept on in Mexico. The room was very clean. We tipped our housekeeper each evening and alwys came back to our beds turned back with some cool art for the day or pretty flowers. The food at the hotel was top notch and we loved not having to have reservations for dinner. All the drinks were very good...nothing water down. My husband enjoyed sipping on Grand Marnier(not sure how to spell it) each night after dinner. Bud light, Corona, Modello are all offered at this hotel. The staff are all very friendly and go over and beyond what they need to do.

The only thing bad that I can about this hotel is the lack of night life. While this did not bother us it may some. There is a small disco(bar) that it very nice...just not very happening:) It may be that we were always ready for bed by then.

Again...great hotel and staff.

I travelled to Dreams with my wife and 2 young boys (4 and 8) between Jan 12th and Jan 19th. This is our 4th time in the area (3rd with the boys). We have previously stayed at the Barcelo Maya, Grand Palladium and Sandos Caracol Select Club.

Rooms- We stayed in an Ocean View family foom on the 6th floor and it was fantastic. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us and a fantastic view of the Ocean and main pool. The beds were really good and the bathroom was huge. Not sure what everyone is talking about with the showers, we had a huge tub/shower combo and no water got on the floor. The only negative I would have is that it was a bit loud late at night, but we were in our room much earlier than normal due to the kids.

Beach- The beach is pretty small but it is great and well taken care of. It is more than big enough for the number of guests in the hotel. There were always plenty of beach chairs and you could usually get a Palapa as long as you weren't up too late. They clean and rake the beach every morning so it is always in great shape. We spoent most of our days on the beach and loved it. You can walk down the beach to private condos if you want to go for a longer walk. The water is only rocky on one side, we brought water shoes for the kids and never even unpacked them.

Pools- The main pool was pretty small but again seemed more than big enough for the size of the resort, they also have a big Jacuzzi that is warmer than the pool on the beach side. The kids loved the Jacuzzi and it seemed to be a meeting point for a lot of people in the late afternoon. The pool on the adult side is also small but nice, both have swim up bars. There is also a hot tub on the adult side that drew a crowd on the first 2 night when it was cold. Always lots of loungers available around both pools.

Restaurants- The food at this resort was by far the best of any resort we have stayed at. We only really stay in 4-5 star places and this food was really good overall. Our favourite was the Italian restaurant which we went to a few times, great food and only had to wait once. The Mexican restaurant was also good and we loved the Sushi restaurant (so did the kids). You could get as much Sushi as you wanted and it was good and varied. My family eat a lot of Sushi from various restaurants at home and this was comparable to Sushi in Canada (although there was cream cheese in some). We didn't eat at the Steak house because we liked the others so much and we had lunch there our first day and didn't love it (why have ok when the others are all really good). My wife and I also went to Oceana on the adult side one night and had great seafood, she had Tuna Steak and I had Crabcakes. The buffet was great for breakfast and lunch, we didn't make it in for dinner. We loved having unlimited a la cartes and not having to make reservations, it rewally enhanced the dining experience.

Staff- The number of staff per guests seemed really high at Dreams. We never really had to wait for drinks, food or anything really. The place was kept spotless and the rooms were as well (it can get a bit messy with 2 boys). We tipped but never felt that this was an expectation and we were treated the same when we did or didn't (don't always have money at the beach). There are waiters on the beach who are fantastic (Guadalupe and Claudia especially and Felipe at the Barracuda bar). I found everyone to be really pleasant and caring at Dreams, the staff genuinely seem to enjoy what they do and this is not true at all resorts.

Entertainment- We don't generally take advantage of this at resorts although we will go to 2 or 3 shows in a week. We went to the Fire Show on the beach which was great and also the Rock and Roll on the beach which was fun as well. Although football on the beach got rained out we did watch some of the Golden Globes on the beach and it was really fun. We laso usually shy away from the Entertainment staff at most resorts, finding that they cater to the 20 somethings and the fun can seem forced. Not the case here, the guys on the entertainment team were great, we played beach volleyball every day and they always made it fun for everyone. They always told us how much they love their jobs and man are these guys busy. Football, volleyball, making Guacamole, Spanish lessons, etc. You name it and these guys were doing it and having fun. By far the kids favourite was the bungee trampoline between 4 and 5 everyday.

Kids Club- Our kids never want to go to the kids club at the resorts we go to. Here they were happy to go for a few hours every day, depending on what the activities were. They had a camping night on the beach with a bonfire that the kids loved (it goes until 10pm). The ladies in the kids club make it a lot of fun for the kids and easy on the parents as well. They will give you a beeper or you can let them know where you will be. They even bought our 4 year old out to the volleyball court when he wanted to check out early. Fantastic staff.

Trip- we flew with WestJet Vacations for the first time and they were great. We got in to Mexico about 20 mins early and back to Toronto over 1/2 hour early, nice crew as well.

Overall- My wife and I generally enjoy a big resprt as we like to explore and walk around. That being said I would go back to Dreams in a heartbeat. They had the best staff, rooms and food of any resort we have stayed at (including much more expensive places). I think they really care about the experience of all of the guests. We have never gone back to a resort twice as we like variety but this one may be an exception. They especially make it a great experience for families. If you are on the fence, get off and book your trip now.
