Wonderful resort with amazing food. We spent a week at this resort in February and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We did find the walking was alot as it is a big resort and certainly spread out. The weather was beautiful, hot and sunny every day. The service was good and friendly, we didnt lack for anything.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues of any kind make sure to ask for a room closer to the diningroom and res...

Visited end of May early June 2014 for a wedding. The pools were great, the beach was very nice. Rooms were dated but clean. However, there was construction going on across the path from our room the whole time (jackhammers and all). But we weren't in the room very often, so I didn't complain. The ceiling fan in the room was a little scary, thought it might fall out of the ceiling, but it didn't. The staff was hit or miss. Some of them were truly great; fun, engaging, and helpful. Some of the staff seemed like you were bothering them, and they were slow.

The $3,000 in resort credit is nothing more than a glorified coupon book. The only coupon we used on the whole trip from the book was unintentional. One night we ate at the Japanese restaurant Kyoto. The server offered me a bottle of Saki with our meal. I declined. She said she had one of the coupons for $20 for drinks we could use. I then asked her if the bottle would cost anything additional, she said no, the coupon would cover it. So, I thought, what the heck, give me the Saki. Average Saki, not very big, not really that great. At the end of the meal, the server had me sign a sheet that really made no sense at all, just scribbles. I asked why I am signing the sheet if the bottle and the meal were no charge. She said it was just because we used the coupon, and again, there were no additional charges. Then, at the end of our trip when we went to check out, I had a $48 charge for a bottle of mediocre Saki! Needless to say, my wife and I protested. The hotel staff at the front desk were marginally helpful, and all they could do was take the $20 off the bottle price using the coupon. So, since the shuttle was there, and I had a flight to catch, I paid the $28 for the bottle of mediocre Saki, that I would have never ordered had I not been completely lied to by the server. Word to the wise, don't sign anything when you are at an all inclusive resort. That $28 bottle will end up costing them a few thousand dollars when I take my vacation elsewhere next time.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

We have been back for over a week now, and we are all still talking about the trip. We had been 6 years ago and everything was pretty much the same. Check in was quick and smooth and all of our rooms for the party of 9 were in close proximity to each other. The A/C worked great this trip although the room had a musty odor when we first got there (need to change the A/C filter). Minibar stocked daily and cleaned while we were at the pool.

Food was same as last time, our sit down dinners at the Italian and the Japanese were fantastic, but you can skip the Steak House, slow to no service, salad bar was nothing, and the steaks were the wrong cut or temperature. The buffet was a buffet with a wide variety, so not sure what the other reviewers expected - nobody ever went hungry, or lacked for a margarita! The breakfast buffet was my favorite with an omelet bar one day fried egg station the next, but bagels and lox every other day was my favorite.

Entertainment at the pool was incredible, the staff at the pool are the most energetic people on the property - our teenagers were dancing on the deck every day and got to know the staff very well. As for the nightly shows, good place to relax after a hard day at the bar, find a cool breeze on the top deck and enjoy what it is. It is not a Broadway show, it's not a Theme Park show, and it's not even a Cruise Ship Show, but it's something to see (but the Michael Jackson tribute was hard to sit through).

After six days of food, fun and sun I was ready to return home!

Room Tip: You get what they give you!

My husband and I traveled in the middle of May 2014 for a quick 5 day getaway. We got so much more than we bargained for!

On arrival we made the decision to upgrade our room and stay to club premium…this was the best money we ever spent!
-it entitles you to top shelf goodness at any bar location
-there's several private club rooms that no one else may enter that have snacks and make-your own top shelf cocktails
-you may eat at almost all the restaurants at any hotel every night--no tickets needed
-your room is DYNAMITE. We walked out to the pool from our awesome room.

Every day other than our excursion consisted of a wonderful routine:
Wake up, hit the breakfast buffet that will NOT leave you wanting whether you are European or from the Americas, hit the pool, do morning yoga or water aerobics, get drinks, hit the beach, lunch by the pool, more beach, get ready for dinner, go to some fabulous place we have reservations for and enjoy a 5 course meal, then to the theatre for a great show or dancing at the club--and a nice walk on the very expansive grounds. Each night we'd sneak into a hammock and let the cool ocean breeze rock us until we were nearly asleep. If that isn't paradise, I don't know what is.

Tips for a great stay:
-if you think you'll die if you walk more than a few blocks, I suggest taking the upgrade so you get prime placement
-get reservations for the restaurants first thing you do. they fill up later. The hibachi is by far the best place…the Mexican restaurant is very good too.
-there's a trolly that connects all of the hotels. Great if you have a reservation at a restaurant far away.
-My perception is that colonial was right in the middle in terms of fanciness. It was just right for us but if you shell out some extra cash you can stay at the palace, or if you are on a budget you could go to beach. Beach was loud and had a big party crowd--lots of younger kids.
-Everything is negotiable. Including any excursions you go to arrange. always push for a bottom dollar amount-usually they can at least cut you 10 or 15 percent if you push.

This place was great, and we are planning a much longer trip for Christmas!!

Room Tip: Shell out the cash for a club premium upgrade-you'll get the best rooms in the best locations.

We traveled with a large group of graduating high school seniors in March. This is a very large beautiful resort. The pool area is huge and a wonderful beach that goes on and on.

We upgraded to Club Premium to have Wi-Fi and the added benefits. It was worth it to us, but not a necessity. We did use the Club Premium room and restaurant reservations.

Rooms were really nice and typical of resorts in this area. The food was just not good. As usual, breakfast was the best meal of the day. Our group tried all of the restaurants, and I can't say any of them were great. They were okay, but not very good.

It is a beautiful resort, but I wouldn't return due to the poor food. For the cost, there are much better destinations in the area.

Room Tip: Room location not such a big deal as you either walk to pool/beach or to the restaurants.

Went there in Feb. of 2014. Staff was great. Got there before check in. We were given our bracelets and told we could go eat or do anything we wanted. Everyone there was so friendly. Went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Had a garden room. Very peaceful. Iguanas right outside our door. Will go back again.

Room Tip: We were very happy with a garden room.

Just returned from a 8 night stay at the colonial with friends and family. There were 9 of us in 4 different rooms, 3 teenagers, along with my parents who are in their 70's. This was our 6th time here so we obviously love it. They got all of our rooms close together and as always service was great. The only exception is for some reason they have a bias with washcloths as you have to call and ask for them. Food was excellent, pools are fantastic, and the beach is the best of anywhere we have been. Part is white sand beach with easy access and other is the best for snorkeling. We routinely saw sea turtles, stingrays, tons of fish, and twice a nice size barracuda. This resort is for all ages and i can't imagine anyone not thoroughly enjoying it. Lord willing, we will definitely return here again.
