Hotel was nice but too massive. It was too tiring to walk from one place to the other places. There were not enough lounge chairs for the amount of guests. We had to reserve lounge chairs at 6 am. We checked out at 4 AM, and the receptionist was very rude.

This was our first visit to Barcelo Maya Palance, family of four. We had read many reviews before booking here and still decided to take a chance. We were not disappointed at all, yes, some of the negative reviews are true, check-in process was lengthy for us (for us due to a beligerent Brit who supposedly spent 15K on this trip and demanded to know why he could not get a reservation at the al-carte restaurants!), but during our stay we did see a lot of long lines to check-in.

We did not bother with al-carte restaurants as we prefer dining at the buffet restaurants for the variety of food offered.

We were premium members, and didn't really use any of the benefits offered.

Our room was located in the 8100 building, 2nd floor, it was large, clean and roomy. We had no issues whatsoever with housekeeping, towels, bedhseets etc.

The grounds of this resort are beautifully maintained, the beach not so sandy as you near the ocean. There was seaweed around, but the staff work very hard every morning with trucks and machinery to remove the seaweed off the property. We took our own snorkeling gear, saw plenty of fishes, and lot's of sea turtles!

The buffet restautants had a great variety of food available for everyone's taste buds, whether you choose to go to the Mexican or International buffets, they are connected, and can get food from either! The Carib restaurant for lunch was our fav (shoutout to Darwin for being an awesome server throughout our stay!!).

The pool was the best, the largest pool we have ever been too, beautifully maintained, very clean. Unfortunate to see so many adult parents getting drunk at the swim-up bar, leaving their little spoilt bratty kids jumping off the rock waterfalls on one side of the main pool, even though it clearly states, "no jumping"! Poor lifeguards had to keep coming round to kick these nuisance kids off the rock waterfall. Adult pool was super great, it was quiet, and you can rent a cabana for $20/day. Unfortunate again to see "entitled" families bringing their kids to the pool.

Beers offered were mainly Corona (cans), and Montejo (cans); cocktails were okay.

Mall on the other side of the resort was good too, they have a great bar there, a sports entertainment bar with bowling, pool, game machines and authentic Mexican arts/ crafts for sale.

The staff, from front desk, to gardners, to servers were all amazing, very friendly and helpful. We tipped a lot, shame to see that majority of the folks there not tipping these hard working staff members.

Overall, a very enjoyable family vacation, our first visit here but certainly won't be our last!

We were there for my daughters wedding. Our issues started in January we kept trying to get ahold of anyone at this resort. Including wedding planner. We had questions about flowers n things n they kept giving us the run around. We asked that we all be close (only had 9 rooms) 1 room on first floor due to elderly. We had 3 rooms that needed 2 beds. I don’t feel like those were bad requests.

Check in was a mess. Rooms weren’t ready which we expected. Thought we would get a welcome drink nope. Of course our elderly room was on 2nd floor n we asked if they could move nope they were full. There was an elevator close to their room ok well once we got to their room the elevator was on the other end of the hall no where near their room. So they struggled with steps. we were all in the same building/area. I had 2 rooms one with a 13 year old in it. Their room of course had 1 bed for a male n female person unrelated to sleep in. I complained no other rooms they were full. They said there was a sofa sleeper. Well it was a couch not made for an adult. I had to call multiple times to get bedding for the couch. Their room was so cold they had all their clothes on. My 13 year got sick because it was so cold. We left a drink sit on the counter n it was slushy by morning. SO COLD. Next morning they can move them to another room in another building well I didn’t want my 13-year-old in another building. So we stuck it out. Every morning when the maids come in they would take all the bending off the sofa so then every night I had to keep calling for bedding for the sofa and had to wait for it no reason that it was being taken every day.

Our room the phone wouldn’t work n it never did get fixed. We started with full towels then everyday it was less n less. They even took the robe from the room. I called down n they did bring me another one. But again I ask why would you take this everyday. We never did get our fridge restocked. We finally wouldn’t let In Housekeeping we’d just find them in the hall.

Booking meals was another joke. Leave it at that.

The pool was great. Towels were always available. Beach was nice a bit rocky in places. Bartenders were great. Only bad thing was they closed down way to early. The only bar that we could go to was the lobby bar. It was always full or people with kids n they were running around all over.

Wedding day was great it all worked out. Be prepared when you book weddings you are on a tight schedule. The planner was right there rushing us with everything. We wanted the groom to walk down both moms but they said no way. At the reception no one had time to eat so I’m sure it was thorn out. I’m really upset that the cake was barely eaten n at the end they threw in a pile n took it away. We could have ate that later. If your in the sand at night bring bug spray. We were all eaten alive. Planned on going to disco to dance after we got there found out they were closed due to covid. The planner could have told us.

Not a good experience this time. Very disappointing and frustrating. I paid a lot of money to be comfortable and to have a relaxing vacation. This did not happen. I ended up getting sick due to the poor hygiene from the hotel.

Our first day experience was not a good introduction to Barcelo May Palace in Cancun. Even though the staff was very helpful and courteous, you had to wait over an hour or more for help. For a top end resort you would think that would include responsive customer service. We traveled to this resort during non-peak season and arrived mid week to avoid the crowds and still the customer service responsiveness was poor.
