I have stayed at this resort twice and loved it! The first time we had a standard room it was great but didn't have a bar fridge so the next time we upgraded to privileged just for the fridge. The staff are very helpful and the animation team are hilarious. Pita is a little ball of energy! The food here is great lots of variety, very clean stations etc. The sports bar and disco are air conditioned and very modern. When at the disco you feel like your in a very nice club with music pumping and drinks flowing. The pools are kept very clean they are treated every night and someone checks the ph level in the middle of the day. The bars are modern decor with one being open concept by the ocean. There are two swim up bars, lots of seating around the pools. Drinks are never watered down that is why you really need the fridge in your room. The beach is abit rocky but there is a nice lagoon area. Plenty of chairs here as well. I love this resort and I am picky!

Flight: Vancouver to Cancun via Canjet. Super tiny seats, very friendly and attentive flight crew. Meal to CUN: either eggs florentine or eggs salsa, fruit cup and pastry Meal to YVR: either beef stew or veggie pasta, bean salad, bread and fudge Check In: Quick and then the bellboy took our bags to our 1st rm.ROOM: It faced a wall and was on the Riviera side. I would take a parking lot view over a wall! So we called the front desk (Abigail) and were told we had to wait until tomorrow. She was very rude and said that we booked a standard rm and this is what we get. We decided to walk back to the front desk after explaining we booked the Yucatan side to another person magically we had an ocean view standard rm on Yucatan side. Day 3 the ceiling above the toilet in the bathroon started to leak. It didnt start up again till day 6 and I didn't want to change to a 3rd rm by that time. FOOD: Average at best. Tapas and Japanese the only A la cart's worth going to. The snack bar was revolting! Coldslaw sandwich anyone?! I'm not kidding!! DRINKS: Friendly bartenders and drinks a plenty :) BEACH: tiny and yes water shoes are a must have SHOWS: I was impressed! They sure work hard! Shows every night. Loved the Horror and Cirque show :) ACTIVITIES: take a bike ride into the marina at Puerto Adverturas and around the grounds SHOPS: Everything must be charged to rm and paid @ check out - very inconvienent. The resort is connected to a bigger resort next door, which is more family based (which is a bit typical from the Catalonia chains...having adults only/small resorts connected to the amenities of a bigger one next door).
The beach is okay..it is what you should expect from a beach in Mexico (unlike the island beaches, which are a bit more clean and natural). What saves it is the little "lagoon" that is created by the rocks. It is less bumpy, don't need water shoes...no waves because of how it is isolated...but during high tide, there's almost no room to lounge on the beach..and the lagoon itself is small.
The rooms were adequate..clean, for the most part. The pools were not very enticing...quality and variety of the food was great (as we would expect from Mexico). Definitely worth trying every restaurant or every food that seems even remotely interesting. The Spanish restaurant overlooks the beach...amazing views! The location of the resort leaves a bit to be desired...we visited mexico mostly because we wanted to see Chichen Itza...and it was quite a few hours away by bus..but it seems that most resorts are at least a few hours away. It is also about 1.5-1.75 hours away from the airport in Cancun as well...so it makes for a lot of traveling..just a head's up in case you are looking to go. Overall though, it's a nice vacation/resort with most/all amenities you could look for in a southern vacation.

p.s. I actually traveled a while back..but tripadvisor won't let me pick the date i actually went

we were two friends aged 45 plus who wanted a reaxing vacation away from the demands of home. We got a great deal on line through Red Tag and Nolitours for April 28th to May 7th. This was my first time to a resort but my friend had been to many.
This resort was just the right size and met our needs perfectly. Our standard room had a wonderful view and was roomy enough for two. Loved the balcony. We enjoyed our vacation so much--this resort is beautiful, clean, and safe. The staff are wonderful and helpful. Mexican night was a real highlight---so much fun and the dancing show was spectacular! We are quiet people, and so stayed on the Catalonia side of the resort mostly. The games and activities were more on the Riviera side. So you could have a quiet vacation, or activity filled--it's up to you. We loved sitting at the Chill Out bar each night, watching the waves roll in. There was never a problem with noise, and we went to bed earlier than most.
I really cannot understand some of the bad reviews I read. We had a wonderful experience. Loved the Spanish Tapis restaurant on the rooftop! WOW! Do not hesitate to go to this resort.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a view!

We travel to the islands often so we thought Mexico would be a nice change of scenery. What a truly disappointing ordeal. The rooms are old and musty. I know people say, " your not there for the room,"then why does the Catalonia promote...their words not my, " for a more comfortable stay UPGRADE.". So in other words your going to have an uncomfortable stay if you don't, therefore clean comfortable rooms are important. There is no fridge in the room which we have NEVER experienced before. You get one bottle of water a person, then you are to hunt water out or buy the water you need for the week. Again, NEVER experienced that before either. There is not much of a beach, it's all VERY rocky. The pics in the travel books are great but they must have been taken before the beach washed away. There is a little snorkeling area though. The pools are fine. The food is very repetitive and cold. Already at this point we had been completely turned off by this hotel. They claim this to be a 4 star....we stayed at a 3 star in Dominicn Republic and everything was way above this Mexican 4 star.
To make it better we had a medical emergency with our daughter. The doctor at the resort would not take our insurance. He wanted cash....without a receipt in return. He said then I need tomgomto the hospital and they will take my insurance there. Why would imgomto both places? Apparently we were not the only families the resort doctor was trying to rip off.
We went to the hospital and theynwouldnt accept insurance either. Our insurance is through Royal Bank. We needed to come up with $800.00 before they would even see her. I asked them to call my insurance company first and they said it closed. I showed them the 24 hour emergency number and they still said no. They also wouldn't allow me to call them. I paid them the money...when you have a sick child you will pay anything. After waiting a few hours we were finally called in. The nurses and doctors at the hospital were fine. We were give 4 prescriptions. Which also cost a fortune. We are at the mercy of taxi drivers ....again, amazing how a 45 minute cab ride to town is $20.00 but a 10 minute trip to the hospital is $25.00. We did go to our travel representitive but she was useless. This was suppose to be a vacation like all the others we had taken....apparently when you go here you get a very unpleasant ordeal. If you would like more information please feel free to email me.

Room Tip: Tips to choose a good room? Go to a different resort or country.

We found this deal on expedia and it was a phenomenal price. Upon arrival, our vacation was flawless! It was rated a 3* but we felt it deserved at least 4-4.5* . The staff were always courteous and gracious...very friendly and hard working. Hospitality was amazing and we really enjoyed that it was a smaller resort. The beach was wonderful,..they have a lagoon off the main beach that was perfect for our family with young children. We fed the little fish bread and the children really enjoyed it. The snack bar was open all the time right behind us off the lagoon.

On the beach we were always taken care of for drinks by our waitress!! She was awesome!

The location was great...right in Puerto Adventuras. We were able to leave the resort and walk around the village and do some local shopping without catching a cab. The dolphin park was right there as well as the marina where locals were fishing:)

They had a good variety of food selection and the food was really good for an all inclusive resort. No timeshare scams...just a great place to rest and relax.

We would definitely return!!!!1
